Glacier Rock Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #9 of 11 Lake Tekapo B&B and Inns
Reviewed April 16, 2013

We arrived at Glacier Rock after quite a drive from Christchurch and Chris' warm welcome was greatly appreciated! There had been a hiccup with the booking system but Chris had it all sorted without fuss in no time.

We stayed in the Kikorangi room since it was the only room that could accommodate 3 adults. The room was extremely cozy and homely and we settled ourselves in it in no time. There was a en-suite toilet which came with a heater (great addition to combat the cold) and a separate closet area where you can store your bags and luggage. We had a huge bed and another roll-out bed, both beds were very comfortable and we had an amazing sleep during our stay.

There is a private balcony outside our room and the view of Lake Tekapo was breathtaking! We even saw plenty of stars at the night. We had a private entrance to the balcony (and our rooms) which was great.

Glacier Rock is located on a very quaint street and it was lovely to head out for a while. At night, the streets were littered with bunnies (which we learned later on that they are considered pests!) and you may need to be careful at night to not run them over!

Chris took the time to talk to us about our trip and recommended some restaurants for dinner. She also recommended some activities for us during our time in Tekapo.

Breakfast was the highlight of our stay at Glacier Rock (after reading the numerous good reviews about it!) and our expectations were met! Chris prepared home-made bread and coffee among other items. Walking into the breakfast room (which had a great view of the lake too) and being greeted by the smell of bread was one of the best thing I woken up to.

The hospitality shown to us will be something we will never forget!

Room Tip: Kikorangi room has a great view of Lake Tekapo

We stayed at the Glacier Rock B&B for 1 night on our way to Christchurch from Queenstown. The house was 2 min from the main shops/restaurants which didn't matter as we were driving anyway.
The room was warm and well furnished, the towels and linen were clean and comfortable.

Chris and Colin the hosts were lovely and welcoming. Chris makes fresh bread each morning which was beautiful and warm. Home made jams, honey and yogurt were all a great start for the morning.

Definitely a great place to stay on the way through.

We stayed in the Kikorangi room for one night last week. The room was well appointed and very clean, and quite as was the bathroom area. The view through the sliding glass door, over the shared deck is amazing. Lake Tekapo is a gorgeous sight to wake up to.
The is also a private entrance which made it east to come and go without interrupting our hosts.
Speaking of...Chris and Colin were lovely hosts, told good stories about the area, and had terrific recommendations. Breakfast consisted of fresh bread/toast with a selection of jams and manuka honey, as well as fruit and Chris' delicious homemade yogurt.
We had dinner at the Japanese restaurant on Chris' suggestion, and really enjoyed the tempura dishes and sake. We also took her advice and walked to town(20-25 minutes) past the incredibly picturesque old stone Good Shepard Church on the waterfront.
The walk home was most SPECTACULAR, the clear skies made for the most amazing star gazing experience.
Thank you Chris and Colin! Hope to visit again someday soon!

We stayed for one night, and the hosts Chris and Colin were extremely helpful and friendly. The views of the Lake were stunning. Slightly far out of town but that didn't matter for one night. Breakfast was all home made bread and jam etc

We only stayed one night but we wished it was a month. Everything was perfect and the hosts could not have done more for us during our time with them. Additionally it was an excellent location. Take the Air Safaris flight for a magnificent view of the area.

Glacier Rock was our first experience of New Zealand B&Bs and set an extremely high standard. Chris and Colin looked after us very well with a very comfortable room and a sumptuous breakfast. The views over Lake Tekapo were breathtaking and Tekapo itself is a great centre for visiting the area including Mt Cook.

Glacier Rock is about a 5 minute drive away from Lake Tekapo center. We felt very comfortable with the hosts Chris and Colin:
-clean room with direct access to the terrace an a wonderful view of Lake Tekapo and spacious bathroom
-freshly baked bread for breakfast

One highlight besindes the Lake was the incredible night sky. We have never seen so many stars, the milky way with such an intensity before.
