We arrived at Glacier Rock after quite a drive from Christchurch and Chris' warm welcome was greatly appreciated! There had been a hiccup with the booking system but Chris had it all sorted without fuss in no time.
We stayed in the Kikorangi room since it was the only room that could accommodate 3 adults. The room was extremely cozy and homely and we settled ourselves in it in no time. There was a en-suite toilet which came with a heater (great addition to combat the cold) and a separate closet area where you can store your bags and luggage. We had a huge bed and another roll-out bed, both beds were very comfortable and we had an amazing sleep during our stay.
There is a private balcony outside our room and the view of Lake Tekapo was breathtaking! We even saw plenty of stars at the night. We had a private entrance to the balcony (and our rooms) which was great.
Glacier Rock is located on a very quaint street and it was lovely to head out for a while. At night, the streets were littered with bunnies (which we learned later on that they are considered pests!) and you may need to be careful at night to not run them over!
Chris took the time to talk to us about our trip and recommended some restaurants for dinner. She also recommended some activities for us during our time in Tekapo.
Breakfast was the highlight of our stay at Glacier Rock (after reading the numerous good reviews about it!) and our expectations were met! Chris prepared home-made bread and coffee among other items. Walking into the breakfast room (which had a great view of the lake too) and being greeted by the smell of bread was one of the best thing I woken up to.
The hospitality shown to us will be something we will never forget!
