Cheap hostel which facing stunning view. Kitchen is good enough for me, quite a comfortable dining room and living room too. The share toilets and bathroom is clean too.
Is really feel 'wow' when sitting outside during night because of the sky full of shiny stars and during day time for the lake view.
But the small room for 5 with 2 bunk beds and a single bed just not for me who are not a real backpacker. As I slept upper bed and when room-mate turn on the heater is just too hot for me cause the heater closely attached.

Lovely place to stay and the facilites are good. If have more shower rooms would be better. Just when the weather is bad you can see nothing on the sky, will visit again in a good weather condition. Like the piano in the common room and the staff generally helpful.

The view from the common area is stunning- huge glass windows allows you to look directly out at the lake, mountains and sunset. Fireplace made it cosy. Staff were helpful and cheery and the rooms were clean. Hostel seemed v environmentally conscious, even setting aside bins for leftovers that can be used as bird feed, with several bird tables outside, which were a nice touch. I had a private room at the back of the hostel which led to the yard area- from here you can walk on a little path which will lead you down to a pebbly area right in front of the lake. It's quieter than other areas probably cos it's only easy for yha guests to access. My partner and I were there alone during sunset and a saw a hare. The rooms were comfortable. Some minus points would be you need to purchase a wifi card (one dollar for half an hour block or 7 bucks or Smth for 24 hrs) to access the Internet and the shower system was a little crazy- water temperature would go amok, from pleasantly warm to a little too hot. Still, it was a great experience overall and much more value for money and closer to the lake than some of the higher end resorts around the area. Would recommend this hostel.

We stayed in an apartment opposite the hostel - upstairs with a lovely view of the lake. The apartment is a little old and tired but nevertheless comfortable with all amenities. A lovely big window to view the world - suitable to 2 couples although one lot had to sleep in bunk beds. It is an easy walk to town along the lake.

Room Tip: upstairs apartment gives a good view of the lake - choose up rather than down - we didn't realis...

Stayed overnight at YHA Tekapo in the double private room. If you are looking for a budget stay where you can have a view and good kitchen, this place is recommended. The place is spacious and clean and quite near to the Tekapo Hot Springs.

The double room I stayed was outside and you might get a little bit cold when you need to walk to the kitchen or the living room and might be a bit dark at night. Shared bathroom is clean.

The view from the common room is what makes this hostel special. Apart from that though, it's an average YHA hostel. It's clean, has good facilities and the staff are friendly and helpful but the rooms aren't great. There was no window in mine and it was a bit cramped. It could have done with one less bed. Also, the rooms are located directly off the kitchen which isn't great.

We got Room 1 (double room, no ensuite) which was near the male toilet, and the kitchen / dining area.

It was slightly noisy (but not too unbearable) because guests were hanging out there till pretty late at night, and then hours later, the first wave of early risers are up in the kitchen making breakfast (and a din!) by 6am. Luckily we also rose pretty early, but gosh, if you were planning to sleep in a bit, I think it would be quite impossible! The kitchen was reasonably clean and pretty well-equipped, and room was clean too. Bathroom wasn't as clean as I hoped, but it was alright.

The room we had was quite small, and if you have lots of bags, it would be a headache. We had the sense to leave our large luggages in the car, and only brought along with us a small overnight bag as we only stayed one night.

There were games and books at the living room so you can hang out there if you like.

The hallway didn't seem to be heated at all, so it was freezing while I walked back from the ladies' shared bathroom to our room.

Room Tip: try to ask for rooms away from the dining room / kitchen. it can get a bit noisy if u're trying...
