“Avocado Sunset created family memories to last a lifetime”
Reviewed November 27, 2011

Our family choose Avocado Sunset for our family getaway to celebrate our Mum's 70th Birthday. From the moment we arrived, Richard and Cheryl made us all feel so incredibly welcome and relaxed. Their attention is warm, friendly yet professional. They were incredibly accommodating and encouraged us to feel as though their home was ours. They even let us "borrow" their dogs for a time which everyone enjoyed. The food on offer is a real highlight. The breakfast is better than some 5 star hotels I've stayed in and I'm still wondering if I should ask Cheryl for her recipes for her delicious Bircher Muesli and her extraordinary strawberry jam! The boys in our family loved the big servings with lashings of bacon, eggs, tomato and everything else in between. And serving "real" coffee was very much appreciated by our caffeine loving family. However the real highlight for our celebrations was our in house dinner party for ten lovingly prepared by Richard and Cheryl to celebrate our Mum's birthday. Three courses of exquisite restaurant standard food, a beautifully set table with fine china, candles flicking throughout the house and the wonderful service by Richard and Cheryl that made this evening truly special. We ended the evening toasting our Mum with complimentary port on the deck while watching the mist roll in off the mountain. And we all loved just having to take a few steps to our respective bedrooms and sink into our comfortable beds to sleep off our dining decadence! For a momentous family gathering, in a breath-taking location, with hosts that are truly talented at delivering relaxed and caring hospitality, Avocado Sunset was the perfect destination. We are all looking forward to returning to celebrate our next family occasion here.

Room Tip: The Daintree was my personal favourite of the rooms. Wonderful views. Cool tones. A huge bathroom. W...

Thank you for such a wonderful review, it sounds so good Cheryl and I are thinking of staying their ourselves!!
We really enjoyed you all staying as a big happy family and your Mum had such a great time. We get a great deal of satisfaction from booking our B&B out to family groups as our place was built by a couple who had 8 children and it is still perfect for families and friends to stay in.
We hope to see you again as a family group or maybe as just a romantic couple!

From the warm welcome right up until the sad goodbye (I didn't want to leave!), Richard and Cheryl made my boyfriend and I's stay comfortable and relaxing. I felt right at home with the right amount of privacy and pampering provided by the friendly hosts. As my first bed and breakfast experience they've set the bar very high, I won't be able to settle for anything less. Such a memorable weekend escape.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the rooms with the balcony and view, definitely worth that tiny bit extra to watch...

Cheryl and Richard, you are the perfect hosts. Avocado Sunset is the perfect place for a romantic getaway and it far exceeded our expectations. As a surprise trip, it was perfect. The complimentary breakfast is fantastic with fresh, local ingredients. Silent partners Florrie and Louis are beautiful and a delight to have a play with. The Safari Room is truly breathtaking and perfect for couples. We did not want to leave!

Not sure why I am writing this review as everything said about this b+b has already been said and is completely accurate.
Richard and Cheryl are the perfect hosts , living in the lower floor of this beautiful house they can be at hand or unobtrusive as you wish , providing you with the free run of the huge living/dining room with cd/dvd collection and warming log fire if you need it.
The view is outstanding and the local area offers plenty of opportunities for rainforest walking as well as the more touristy things.
Most reviews here talk about the wonders of the Safari room but as we arrived with no booking and no idea about the rooms available we were more than happy with the Dorset room.
Although at the wrong end of the building for the magnificent view it does have it's own verandah off to the side which gives you wonderful privacy for a bottle of wine whilst watching the sunset , and the facilities in the room are first class.
I guess what I am trying to say is that if the Safari room is already booked you can still have a wonderful time in any of the other rooms.
Richard and Cheryl have got this place just right and although we didn't use the in room dining offered , the breakfast ( oh yes , black pudding available! ) was outstanding.
My only negative ( sorry ) is that local restaurants , although not far , will need a drive but I can see from the other reviews that many people don't bother to leave the house which is entirely understandable.

The reviews are all true. We stayed for two nights with our daughter and son in law and for one night with our son-before his wedding. What a wonderful welcoming B & B. Richard and Cheryl are brilliant hosts, they are warm and friendly and help to make Avocado Sunset the perfect place to stay on the mountain. The views are great, breakfasts, just perfect and the rooms are delightful. So comfortable in fact, that we didn't get to do any of the walks or touristy things we had intended to do. So, I guess that means we must return! Thank you again Richard and Cheryl for helping make our joyous occasion so great.

It is so nice to see a family enjoying their time together at our place! We look forward to seeing you again soon when you may have more time for the walks in our great National Parks on Tamborine Mountain.

Very few times are my expectations met or exceeded. The rave reviews to this beautiful B&B lead me to high expectations of a beautiful, tranquil setting combined with accommodating hosts... and that is exactly what was delivered. We stayed for 3 nights in the Safari Room and I can honestly say that I could have spent the whole 3 days sitting in our double spa looking out to the breathtaking mountains, or on the balcony with a bottle of wine at sunset. The lounge is just as inviting with full glass doors allowing you to continue to gaze at the sunset or early morning sunrise if the weather is a little colder. The peaceful music playing in the background makes you want to float for the remainder of the day. The Safari room is spacious and has attention to detail... Richard and Cheryl have thought of everything – cutlery, glasses, refreshments and even lovely white gowns to fall into after your spa. I would be happy to return during the winter months with your own private fire place roaring. Cheryl cooks a delicious breakfast to your liking which is garnished with the most creamiest avocados from their backyard.. not to mention the scrumptious homemade preserves which during our stay, were awarded 1st prize in the local show. Richard and Cheryl are very friendly and welcoming... I don’t think I have ever met a family who are more suitable to host your holiday. A deep thank you for a wonderful time and we hope to return again soon. Kristi & Nik
