“Overpriced and impersonal”
Reviewed December 15, 2011

Although the location is excellent right across from the main park in downtown Loja, the layout does not take advantage of the view and the "take a number" service was cold and impersonal. In addition, every item on the menu was way overpriced and the snack and coffee I ordered were both very poor. Surprisingly, this place was very busy, but I would recommend looking elsewhere for your coffee and humita, there are so many great places in Loja.

“Clean place for humitas, quimbolitos, and empanadas de verde”
Reviewed May 5, 2011

If you are in Loja, you definitely should try humitas, tamales, quimbolitos and empanadas de verde. There are a lot of places to go for these, including the woman on the street corner selling humitas out of a bucket (hit or miss!). However, if you are a tourist traveling through and want a clean place to go, El Tamal Lojano is your best bet. The place is very clean (both locations that I've been to) and the service is good. If you are craving sweet, I would recommend humitas with a cup of coffee (or quimbolitos, but I am not a big fan). If you are craving savory, get the tamales and chicken empanadas de verde. The prices are inexpensive (I want to say it is $1 for an humita and $1.25 for an empanada de verde). They have very good batidos (smoothies) here as well.

Seating is ample- just FYI you order at the counter and then you find a seat and they bring the food to you. The first time we went, we sat down and waited...and waited.
