Finca Adalgisa Wine Hotel, Vineyard & Winery
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 12, 2011

We loved the Finca. We were there for a special 10th anniversary trip in late September 2011, having done Buenos Aires and Iguazu in the previous week. This was our time to relax. We wanted to sit at the pool and visit vineyards. Nothing else.

The FInca is kind of a sprawling place. There are maybe 30 rooms, all in a kind of villa style. There is a vineyard on the property (produces a nice basic malbec that is pretty good) and a pool in the center. The rooms were clean and were charmingly decorated. Ours was a junior suite with a nice living room with a very small kitchenette perfect for keeping our wine and stuff.

Staff was terrific. VERY helpful in arranging everything we needed. We were working with Uncorking Argentina on a private wine tour so we didnt need them to set that up for us, but other stuff they were great.

Breakfast was very good every day and they had a cooking demonstration of a typical Argentinian bbq that was great. I learned how to make empanadas and chimichurri! They also have a small restaurant that serves tapas in a very nice setting. Cheeses and charcuterie. Nothing fancy.

When you pull up in the taxi you are looking around wondering if this is really the place, but once they open the gate: it is beautiful.

If I came back to Mendoza I would stay here again. Definitely.

My wife and I traveled to Argentina to visit our daughter, who is studying a semester at La Plata. We decided to travel to the Mendoza area for a weekend, and stayed three nights at Finca Adalgisa. The website and the reviews looked great, but this hotel truly exceeded all of our expectations.

The hotel is an easy walk from Chacras de Coria, and there are many stores and restaurants to choose from in the area. Typical of Spanish style architecture, you might drive by Finca Adalgisa and not realize it, since the hotel and grounds are not really visible from the street. Once you pass the gate, however, you enter a real oasis. The buildings, rooms and grounds are beautiful, and perfectly maintained. Our room was quite large and very comfortable. The staff, Theresa, Arian and the rest were amazingly helpful and very friendly. They are on top of every detail.

Breakfast is terrific. The afternoon wine and tapas by the bodega was something we would not miss, and we enjoyed mingling with other guests there. Everyone is having such a good time that socializing is easy. The wine produced at Finca Adalgisa (5000 bottles per year) is amazingly good, and sold only on site. They will ship some to you if you like.

I highly recommend that you have them organize the vineyard tour for you. They arranged to have us picked up by a driver, Alex, at 10:15am, and we got back to the hotel at 5:30pm. In between was a truly memorable day. We visited 3 wineries, and the tours were all terrific. It included a 5 course lunch at one of the wineries, each course paired with a different wine. I cannot say enough about what a perfect day it was.

There was a cooking class offered on our first night, but we did not sign up. I wish we had. Other guests who participated in it highly recommended it to us, but it was not offered during the rest of our stay. Next time for sure.

All in all, I give Finca Adalgisa my highest recommendation. You cannot go wrong staying here. We are certain to return.

Finca Adalgisa was absolutely above and beyond our (high) expectations. We stayed at the hotel two nights in September 2011 – the very first two days of their new season! Even though they were just reopened - the hotel staff were at the top of their game. Arriving in the afternoon, we found our room had been upgraded to a beautiful little suite, with a hammock, a living room area, a small porch and a wet bar. Our room offered wood and a fireplace, as well as wifi, candles, iPod dock and a huge picture window looking right out onto the vines. The rooms were fittingly rustic without being old fashioned or run down in any way. The whole estate has a great feeling of being in and among the vines – the house is nestled into the vineyard and you are invited to walk and lose yourself among gardens, flowers, fountains and olive trees. It was splendid - even in early spring – so I can only imagine as it becomes more lush and green. Though you are actually in a small town – you feel worlds away from anything! (It’s a pleasant afternoon walk through the city downtown.)

After settling in we were greeted warmly by owner Gabriela who personally took us to the estate’s little winery. She showed us the process and facilities and told us about her family home and the founding of the hotel. The Finca is a tiny working winery and they make just about 5000 bottles of each vintage right there on site! Gabriela then invited us into the tasting room – an amazing and beautiful space that is a highlight of the hotel --one that truly sets it apart. Overlooking the vineyard with huge windows, the tasting room offers multiple fireplaces, comfy couches, fresh flowers, books and board games for a nightly wine and cheese tasting. We were so happy and comfortable that we ordered a light dinner here as well – a tasty charcuterie and vegetable plate.

This tasting room and hotel itself hits just the right note of casual elegance that you look for when visiting wine country. The staff was warm, personal and multilingual. We would return in a heartbeat.

(While visiting make sure you taste their homemade olive oil, and participate in Cristina’s cooking class!)

Let me first start by saying this is in such a beautiful location and is so superbly staffed. Thanks to Meike, Therese, Gabriella and so many more!! We did not want to leave!! The grounds are beautiful, the bed was the most compfortable bed I have ever slept on and to be entirely honest the entire staff was so helpful and friendly.

We arrived last minute, had no idea we were going to Mendoza and the staff helped us out so much, from booking activities for us to do and even letting us stay WAY past check out time and still use their facilities!

Initially, we thought it may be too far away from the city center to find good food not the case at all!! The town is wonderful, easy walking everywhere. We could not have been happier.

If you have the chance stay here, we will certainly be back! We loved it so much we did not even want to tour, but stay on the grounds instead.

This is hands down one of the best places we have ever stayed!

Thanks!

Room Tip: Everything is amazing!!

Amazing place. Absolutely stunning grounds - there's nothing quite like waking up in your suite overlooking the blossom, vines and snow capped Andes. Photos on their website don't do the grounds or the rooms justice. Staff are wonderful - service is 5+ stars without being at all pretentious. Included wine and tapas in the tasting room each evening on comfy couches with cards, board games, beautiful coffee table books to leaf through, 360 degree views of the vineyards and a fire place in each corner of the room - wow, just sensational. Classy yet so cosy. Location is about a 50 peso taxi ride from Mendoza CBd and it's well situated for wine tours.

We arranged an extra night as soon as we saw our suite so we could end our holiday totally relaxed. Wish we could stay for a week.

Perfect romantic spot - just beautiful. I can't speak highly enough about Finca Adalgisa.

Finca Adalgisa – Mendoza Argentina
www.fincaadalgisa.com.ar
Rating: 5 stars (but deserves at least 10 stars!!!)

A jewel nestled among the vineyards!
By Alexandra Blackhurst – Miami, Florida

Last winter (here in the U.S.), my mother and I spent a glorious week at Finca Adalgisa Hotel in Mendoza, Argentina! Although I can only give the maximum 5-star rating, this hotel deserves at least 10 stars!!! Our stay was not only delightfully relaxing, but also a culinary and gourmet extravaganza!!!

The Finca is located in the heart of Chacras de Coria, a charming section of the city of Mendoza, with lush tree-lined streets and tons of quaint restaurants and live music, and only 20 minutes away from the downtown area. Surrounded by vineyards and lush olive trees, this cozy, family-owned hotel has all the charm of an Italian Villa with all the comforts of modern amenities, including free Internet access, a sparkling pool, and a wonderful breakfast!

A giant weeping willow stands at the hotel entrance, where we were welcomed by the hotel owner, Gabriela Furlotti, along with her three loyal “assistants”: Binko, an adorable oversized Bernese (Swiss) Mountain Dog and two German Shepherds IUlma & ???). Being dog-lovers, my mother and I were thrilled to be greeted every morning by the well-behaved and mild-mannered dogs as we made our way to the breakfast lounge.

Having traveled extensively herself, Gabriela is a fabulous host and made us feel right at home, arranging many excursions to wineries and countryside outings. Gabriela and her staff speak English extremely well, which made our stay very comfortable. The entire staff was wonderful, catering to our every request and making sure we were happy during our stay.

The hotel is actually divided into two areas: the terracotta-colored “Old House” which belonged to Gabriela’s Italian grandparents; and the Cabanas, where we stayed during the first week. Our suite had a comfortable sitting area, a warm bedroom with a fireplace and a luxurious bathroom with a huge sunken jetted tub! It felt like a honeymoon suite!

The hotel also has a beautiful lounge, where we could meet other guests, watch the sunset over the vineyards, while sipping fantastic wines and enjoying delicious tapas, fresh salads from their own garden and wonderful soups. The hotel has its own boutique winery, which produces amazing wine! My mother and I had the privilege of chatting with the hotel’s Chef, Cristina Brino, who actually trained under Francis Mallmann, one of Argentina’s top chefs. Unlike many chefs, Cristina is very friendly, unassuming and down-to-earth, and was most kind to share some of her exquisite recipes.

As an active environmentalist, I was most impressed by the hotel’s environmental policies and social responsibility, which include water and energy conservation, recycling and composting, use of biodegradable cleaning products and avoiding pesticides in their vineyards, orchards and vegetable garden. The hotel invests in education and economic development by supporting a local school and by purchasing most products and services locally. Their private-label wines are also certified “Fair Trade”, which are exported to the U.S. and Europe under the name “Soluna”.

The hotel was so relaxing and the service was so fantastic, my mother and I decided to stay three extra days and we had the opportunity to stay in the Old House! I spent one afternoon perusing the library, which is filled with great novels, historical books and wonderful old photographs of Gabriela’s family and grandparents, the Furlottis and the Morettis.

The last three days we were there, we had lunch every day by the pool next to the vineyards, sipping wines and enjoying the warm sun. Since we had Internet access by the pool and our room, we had no trouble keeping in touch with the rest of the world! We were sad to leave and can’t wait to go back this October! I am seriously thinking I should move my “office” to Finca Adalgisa! Thank you, Gabriela, for a wonderful stay!!!

I left Argentina in 2009 after living in Mendoza for more than 10 years. In 2011 I returned, with my wife Elly and spent 1 month around Mendoza including 10 days at Finca Adalgisa (FA). FA is the perfect match between the image we have of Mendoza and what we found at this small and cozy hotel. Size, attention to detail and direct contact with the owner, the ever sweet and always available Gabriela, are more the caracteristics you find in a luxury Bed & Breakast than in a hotel. Right in the middle of their vineyard, a few yards away from their tiny winery, we were able to participate in the harvest activities, to pick up ourselves fruit from their numerous fruit trees as well as to spot tens of different kinds of birds and... a horse plowing the rows of their vineyard.
At the same time, we were able to visit Chacras and access its bars and restaurants... by foot. FA is truly located "walking distance" from the heart of Chacras. One day we wanted to explore a bit further and we simply used the bikes availbale at FA for the guests, free of charge. 6 or 7 wineries are then accessible without the use of any gas engine... except if you are an ambitious buyer of multiple cases of wines! ;-)
The reception/concierge team at FA, with their room staff and waiters were so welcoming and attentive to us. Their service is top quality. In particular they helped us design, set up, modify, re-arrange our agenda and directed us to more out-of-the-track activities and visits. In addition to the "customary" winery visits and tastings we highly recommend the "Laguna del Diamante" day trip (the more adventurous can sleep over and hike the Maipo volcano there too!) and the hot springs near FA (for a more local adventure skip the hotel side and enter the gate just after, tiny camping with day entrance perfectly allowed). In a word, what makes FA stands out are its people.
We will come back in our next trip!
Last but not least, with no excuse should you miss the "almost individual" (4 people maximum!) cooking classes from Cristina under the night sky of Mendoza. An unique experience in its own!
