Easy to get to on public transport. We caught the Green bus no1, route no 15 or 16 from Plaza Chile and within 45 minutes were at Chacras. We had rung ahead for a reservation. First we went on a very informative tour of the winery. This is a small boutique vineyard but coming from a long history in wine. Those underground cellars were impressive as was the fact that children used to be employed to clean the concrete vats. Not a nice job. From there we went to the restaurant. We had planned on having the taster menu but on the day the choices were not to our taste. The pre meal offering was some delicious bread and ceviche on toasts. We then chose to share a starter of pate, with toast & veg mixture. This followed by pork in a very sticky sauce and the most enormous rib eye steak - beautiful meat - just not a lot to go with it. Special fruits & ice cream finished the meal off perfectly. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious and each plate was perfectly presented. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the wines and advised us as to what we should drink with the meals we had chosen – including the Grand Estirpe 2008 which is their signature wine. We added to this the little bottles of sparkling 187 and some white wine and overall we had an excellent lunch for less than the ARG220 we would have been charged for the taster menu. Great day out.
