“Good local food,”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

My wife and I went here on our recent anniversary trip. First, we went here on a weeknight. It was almost empty, but we were glad we went at that time. We went back by on the weekend (because the Sangria was just THAT good - I like it sweet) and it was much more crowded and a lot louder flare in the restaurant as the owner was playing guitar. That wouldn't have been our style or desire for our time there. If you're staying in the area, this is a great place to go to dinner. They have some favorite dishes noted on the menu, and as long as you like those general meats, you can't go wrong! (Pork Tenderloin, Skirt Steak, Chicken)

It is more of a local place than a romantic or high-end place, so you might be nervous walking in on a weeknight. However, the owner will most likely come talk to you, and you will feel very welcome at this place. The weekend was much busier and you will feel like you are experiencing the true sense of Puerto Rico if you go then.

“The essence of Puerto Rico...”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

We were extremely pleased with our visit to Restaurante El Estribo. From the personal welcome from the owner to the expertly prepared meal we enjoyed, this place is the one to visit to experience the essence of Puerto Rico. The evening we were there the live music was performed by the owner, Gerardo, who has an excellent voice and is a great storyteller regarding his homeland.

“Authentic, Feel Good, Must Visit Restaurant in Puerto Rico (Isla Verde)”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

El Estribo is a an amazing little Puerto Rican restaurant that made my wife and I all warm and fuzzy inside. It dripped with authenticity from the food all the way down to do live traditional music sung by the owner himself. The food was very good to excellent. It tasted like some home cooking for sure. The owner/musician came by a few times to see how everyone was doing. It really felt like the resident Puerto Rican people in the restaurant really cherished this restaurant. There were a handful of "tourist" couples but not many.

I had the El Estribo Pork Tenderloin which was excellent. My wife had some Creole Shrimp dish. We also had an amazing sponge cake like desert. Also, I tried the chicken wings with their homemade hot sauce which was amazing too.

We stayed for 5 days and this restaurant was the best by far. We did not want to leave.

“my favorite restaurant in puerto rico”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

The food is delicious, the atmosphere is cozy, the owner and staff are friendly and welcoming, and the live music is an added bonus. it's our go-to restaurant when we have guests in town who'd like to try Puerto Rican food, and no one has ever been dissapointed. Particularly good on the menu are the churrasco dishes as well as the chicken dishes. The shrimp soup is also very flavorful.

“A little magic in Isla Verde”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

Surrounded by restaurant chains and fancy hotels, this little gem is a must. I almost don't want to write a review as I prefer this place to stay as it is. Friendly, local, real. The owner and staff are the friendliest on the island and the food is wonderful. Great value for money, home from home atmosphere and enchanting live music. Love it.
