I tend to shy away from hotel restaurants, but had a long day at work and just needed to unwind without too much fuss. I am staying at the Intercontinental in Isla Verde and I appreciated that Trattoria Italiana downstairs had outdoor seating - and being indoors all day, this was high on my list.
I did not expect to get an excellent meal.
Waitress Vilma was prompt, attentive and provided just the right amount of conversation. A request for 1/2 salad instead of the full size was happily accommodated. I had a glass of savingnon blanc, which was excellent slightly tangy with a nice slow and pleasant finish, a little was left in the bottle and Vilma provided this little extra enjoyment.
What sold me on the meal was the main course, advertised as "whitefish salsa-verde." It' an unfortunate name for what was a spectacular dish. The fish was actually grouper, cooked perfectly with a ragout of vegetables on top and surprise, 4 types of tasty mushrooms on the bottom. The sauce was tasty but gentle. It was served with fingerling potatoes that I did not want, but could not help but eat.
Altogether an excellent and most unexpected meal.
