“Surprisingly good”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

I tend to shy away from hotel restaurants, but had a long day at work and just needed to unwind without too much fuss. I am staying at the Intercontinental in Isla Verde and I appreciated that Trattoria Italiana downstairs had outdoor seating - and being indoors all day, this was high on my list.

I did not expect to get an excellent meal.

Waitress Vilma was prompt, attentive and provided just the right amount of conversation. A request for 1/2 salad instead of the full size was happily accommodated. I had a glass of savingnon blanc, which was excellent slightly tangy with a nice slow and pleasant finish, a little was left in the bottle and Vilma provided this little extra enjoyment.

What sold me on the meal was the main course, advertised as "whitefish salsa-verde." It' an unfortunate name for what was a spectacular dish. The fish was actually grouper, cooked perfectly with a ragout of vegetables on top and surprise, 4 types of tasty mushrooms on the bottom. The sauce was tasty but gentle. It was served with fingerling potatoes that I did not want, but could not help but eat.

Altogether an excellent and most unexpected meal.

“Long Wait for Not Much”
Reviewed April 18, 2014

We waited forever at this restaurant for bread, probably twenty minutes after the waiter put down oil and balsamic vinegar. Bad, strange bread at that. The food was passable only, and my husband got their "Best burger ever" which he described as under-cooked and "tastes like feet". Got clumpy, lumpy pasta alfredo "with chicken" consisting of a few lackluster pieces of grilled chicken. Prices high, food boring and service was very very slow. Would not recommend. The humongous, largely empty restaurant at 7pm on a Thursday night should have clued us in.

“Disgusting Experience”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

The whole experience was horrible, terrible service, no consistency with staff. Ignored, food was disgusting, non English speaking staff, waste of money for a 3 hour nightmare.

“Slow service but very good food.”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

Make sure you ask for TAP water, or else you'll be charged for the "still" or "sparkling" water offered to you. The service was very very slow...it would have been better if they filled the empty space with rolls or more frequent drink deliveries....but the service was good when we got it. Food was excellent. We ordered Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken...soooo yummy!! could not get enough.

“Nothing Special Here”
Reviewed April 13, 2014

Convenient if you are staying at the hotel, but not worth going to otherwise. The menu is somewhat limited, the prices are fairly high and the food is just mediocre. The pizza is more like a flatbread. My husband had spaghetti and it too was just mediocre. There are too many good Italian restaurants to spend time and money here.
