“Great Drinks”

The best thing about this place was the coconut sangria. I found the food a little dry. The service was slow, but why would I be in a rush in Puerto Rico.

“Excellent Puerto Rican Fare”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2014

I had the opportunity to dine at Platos Restaurant my first night in Puerto Rico. The fresh Red Snapper with rice and beans was delicious! The portion were huge enough to share. We also ordered the green mussels in saffron sauce appetizer which was outstanding. They also serve excellent wine and coconut sangria. Our server was very nice and helped explain all of the dishes well. A must visit spot if you are near Isla Verde in San Juan.

“Great Sangria Selections”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2014

The server recommended the Churrasco, grilled flank steak, so that was one of the meals we tried. Our piece was very chewy and not that tender with more fat than should be expected. That dish was disappointing. Our other meal was the Chicken Breast in a Creole Sauce which was very good. Also very good were the selection of Sangrias. We tried the Mango and it was delicious. Get the pitcher if you want more than one glass each. When I return I'll probably try some of the appetizers which looked very good as I watched them being served to other patrons.

“Great Puerto Rican Cuisine and Drinks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2014

We had a great experience at Platos during our first night in San Juan. Platos is a quick walk from the Intercontinental Hotel and it came highly recommended by our bellman. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was crowded when we arrived, but we were quickly accommodated by the efficient staff within 10 minutes (we had no reservations.) We began with various flavors of sangria which is one of their house specialties. My wife had the coconut sangria and I tried the tamarind, followed by a glass of passion fruit. They were all delicious! The coconut was a bit too sweet for me, the tamarind and passion fruit drinks were just right. My wife has a gluten allergy and they were able to easily handle this. We began by sharing the fried plantain with shredded pork appetizer. This dish was absolutely incredible! (Just ask for the dipping sauce on the side if you have a gluten allergy.) We then shared the Chuletón de cerdo (del lomo) braseado. servido con salsa de guayaba - coco y ron (Braised large pork chop (from loin) with guava - coconut - rum sauce.) Again, this dish was prepared gluten free except for the risotto. The pork chop was plenty large enough to share and was cooked just right ... very delicious flavors! We ordered a side of fresh vegetables which were absolutely amazing. It consisted of carrots, green and red peppers, black olives, mushrooms, and broccoli. WOW!!! The evening was made complete by live music in the bar. For great local cuisine, we highly recommend Platos.

“Great food!”

I visited this restaurant my first night in PR. The food is great. Try the coconut sangria! They will even bottle it up for you to take with you if you order a pitcher of it.
