This is also for the Tapas bar. We had the Paella which was good, but seemed to be a dish they could cook quickly and give the appearance of paella. The restaurant was casual and quiet which was great after a long day of checking out area sites. The sangria was refreshing, but a little sweet for my taste.

Unfortunately there are not really many good choices in the area and this one is near the top.

Note that this review is for the tapas bar and not the French restaurant. Our service was very slow and poor. Our drink order was forgotten, and our meal took over an hour to arrive. The mojitos, when the finally did come, we're excellent, and the coconut shrimp was among the best I've ever had, but the paella (chicken and sausage) tasted like it had about a tablespoon too much salt. It was almost inedible. If it had't been for a second waiter checking in on us during our wait, we might never have gotten our food or drinks. The second one seemed to be picking up the slack for the first. Other diners around us seemed to be having a better experience, so we may just have been unlucky, but any truly good restaurant should be able to deliver consistently good service and food.

Excellent French food in a lovely waterside restaurant. Service was very good. At the far end of Palmas del Mar. Reservations a must on weekends.

(Note: This review is a for Chez Daniel, not the tapas bar. They are two different restaurants, though related.)

It's ok to be "French" rude and ostentatious if your serve is impeccable and your putting out outrageously delicious food. That, we can live with. But, when the food is mediocre and service is terrible, you are just plain rude and full of yourself... We are visiting Las Palmas for the first time, staying at a friend's condo. The friend recommended Chez Daniel for Valentine's Day. We need to rethink this friendship. What a disappointment. The staff is a combination of incompetent, aloof, and rude. Others mentioned the French woman who sits in her command center behind her fortress. She is a comical stereotype who needs to be retired. We arrived a few minutes early and she told us to leave and come back in 15 minutes. Seriously, she told us to leave. At that point we didn't realize what good advice she'd given us. We had a drink next door at the tapas bar... that's another story. Finally, we were seated and the real show began.

Of two servers who tried to take our wine order, neither could offer a crumb of knowledge. The first could not speak English very well. So, the second took over and said he would "take care of the wine order". We were deciding between two Bordeaux and pointed them out on the RED wine list. One was a 2003, the other a 2009. We asked for his recommendation. He proceeded to tell us that when choosing a white wine, younger is better. This irrelevant piece of advice appeared to be the only wine knowledge he had. Although, he did decant the bottle before he served it. But, we were seated for a full 30 minutes before our wine arrived, over 50 before we saw bread... and it was an hour before we placed our food order! Yes, we were the final seating for the busy Valentine's Day night... we tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. But the place was practically empty by the time we ordered at 10 pm. The head waiter or maitre de, not sure what she was, seemed to be the only one who knew what she was doing. But, since she was the only one taking dinner orders, she appeared to be the rate limiting step, bogging everything down. Finally, appetizers arrived: endive salad was good but not astounding, escargot was surprisingly under-seasoned, foie gras and salad with warm goat cheese were Ok. Nothing among them really impressed us.

For dinner, the duck, sweetbreads, and baby veal rack were all good but, again, not amazing. The one really poor standout was the T-bone steak special that was small and remarkably thin. It was a disappointment when a 14oz steak was advertised. We each got a small side dish with potato, green beans and carrots. However, they must have run out of veggies because one of us got potato with a small scoop of what appeared to be sad, brown, overcooked, leftover mirepoix. How strange was that? We left without dessert or coffee. All this for $400 for four.

Our recommendation is go to C Bar. It was amazing at better prices. Also, we ate at Marmalade in San Juan the night before and spent the same amount for a meal and service that were beyond outstanding!

We've been coming to Palmas Del Mar for years and why people spend so much money to eat at this over priced restaurant is beyond me. The food is over priced, service is horrible and the main hostess with the French accent couldn't be anymore rude. Spend your money at CBar or LaBrochette in Palmanova Plaza. They are better options for a fairly priced dinner if you're staying in Humacao.
