“Charming Hotel! Gracious Staff”
Reviewed April 1, 2009

Staying at the big Victorian hotel in Nethy Bridge was like stepping back in time. It was a lovely experience. A warm, welcoming fire in the lobby set the tone and the most gracious staff reinforced it. They were so friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable and just lovely, as is the downstairs lounge and dinning room. A wonderful, antique feel to the entire place, but with modern conveniences. The buffet breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The entire hotel is absolutely charming, as is the tiny town with it's old stone bridge. This hotel made the perfect stop-over from Edinburgh to Elgin. We are so glad we stayed. Thank you for retaining the charm and grace of a bygone era.

I remember this hotel with absolute fondness. My family and I stayed here during XMAS 2007 and it was simply wonderful.

The biggest plus point to this hotel is the surrounding area, and walking along the river Spey on a frosty Christmas morning was beautiful. And its proximity in the highlands, close to Aviemore, is another advantage.

Yes, there are aspects of this hotel that are very 1970’s, but to me, this added to the charm. As a twenty something hack I’m used to contemporary business hotels, but that did not stop me enjoying the traditional homely feel of this hotel. The rooms are fine; comfortable and clean. In this instance I have to agree with the previous reviewer, is going back in time a bad thing? Besides, it markets itself as a 3*, and for what I paid for four nights, it was definitely value for money. Also, there is so much in the local area the time spent in the room is minimal.

The food during our stay was fantastic, and being XMAS the hotel put on various themed dinners, with plenty of hats and crackers. They also made a big show of the haggis with a Scottish piper playing various melodies. The breakfasts were also plentiful; I was never hungry during this stay!

The evening dances were good fun, and even my 11 year old nephew was up reeling!

The hotel itself is slightly tired and old fashioned, but it's homely with its comfortable chairs and open fires. The staff (and particularly the manager), were a credit to the place, and if this is what old fashioned brings then I welcome it. All the guests seemed happy and were friendly.

Another nice touch was the hotel arranging for Santa to come to the hotel with his reindeer's on Christmas morning. I was on holiday with my cousins and their young children and they loved it, and they loved their stocking too.

As a final note, this hotel catered well for older citizens and children alike. I would go back without a doubt, but probably only for XMAS or new year.
