“Fantastic day's walk with stunning views”

Abernethy National Nature Reserve
Reviewed February 13, 2017

I was staying in Aviemore at the youth hostel with a group of friends and we had originally planned to go up a hill but visibility wasn't great in the morning. We parked near the Reindeer Centre and from there, followed a track through Glenmore Forest Park, leading up to the beautiful icy An Lochan Uaine. From there, the forest clears and you get spectacular views of the Cairngorms. We followed the track up the hill, where Abernethy National Nature Reserve begins and up past the Ryvoan Bothy to Abernethy Forest. The route took us around five hours, however there were opportunities to follow other shorter and longer tracks within Abernethy forest depending on how much time you have.
