Our choice of hotels whilst traveling to the North West of Sutherland is determined by places that accept dogs. We were not disappointed by Kinkell House in its lovely location overlooking the Beauly Firth with distant views of mountains.
Rosie got a rapturous welcome and we were shown to a lovely upstairs room with fabulous views. The room was spacious, quiet and well appointed.
We had a drink in the conservatory where we made our selection from a short but appealing menu. Our starter was smoked trout and salmon from the Achiltiebuie Smokehouse, nice enough but the main course of scallops and crab linguine had me in raptures. The scallops were the freshest and most beautifully cooked and plentiful I've ever had and the crab was likewise fresh and sweet. The only problem we were too full to try a desert.
A quiet night in a tester bed with good bed linen but a noisy start to the day with a tractor trundling past at 7.00 am but hey we were in the countryside.
Breakfast was great, my only quibble being the absence of a menu and any "speciality" tea other than Earl Grey.
Definitely a place to come back to.More
