“Beautiful views across the golf course and the Firth”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2013

We had an excellent room - plenty of room and a beautiful view across the Firth.

The staff are friendly and helpful (eg we needed to find a really good orchid as a birthday present).

Food is fine, especially breakfast - all cooked well, but this is not a restaurant with rooms.

Good place to stay for a golfing holiday - the links are right outside the door.

Room Tip: Get a room on the first floor overlooking the Firth of Forth

Nice, older hotel. Could probably use some updating but we thought it was a good value. Very comfy bed, decent bathroom. The best part was the view of the golf course and the sea. Our room had a balcony which would be quite enjoyable - weather permitting. We didn't eat dinner there but had a full breakfast in the morning that was very good. No complaints. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea.

Good quiet hotel with well equipped bedrooms and bathrooms. There was a super large comfortable double bed in our room which also had a deck where you could sit out and watch the golfers on the course below or just take in the view across the Forth to East Lothian and the Bass Rock. The wee grill to the side of the hotel and the sea view restaurant served up well presented and delicious meals. Breakfast choice included a good Scottish breakfast or a smaller continental selection.

Room Tip: Room 19 has the deck overlooking the sea. It is beside the fire escape door which is used by the occ...

Walked into the manor hotel looking forward to our 2 night stay. Excitedly went to our twin room but found it to be average with a very dated bathroom and a terrible shower. Worse still, we walked into our 3 male friends 'family room', only to find that one of the beds was the size, if not smaller, than a child's bed! A grown man was supposed to sleep in this!? His legs were hanging off the end! I went to speak to the receptionist only to be told 'couldn't the smallest of the men sleep in it?' Or 'couldn't two of the men share the double bed in the joining room??' I felt this was totally unacceptable, I stated I felt my friends should have another room or at least swop the bed for a normal size bed, only to be told this was not possible unless we paid £30!! Terrible terrible customer service and definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel despite the great bar and breakfast room.
Plus the meal we had at the grill was also below average and overpriced for what we were served! I recommend eating in the hotel down the road, delicious food!

This is a quiet hotel overlooking the sea and golf links, at least from the bedroom we stayed in. It also had a lovely deck with seating overlooking the same view, would have used it apart from the cold! The hotel and rooms are a bit tired but I suspect that there is an updating programme in place for the hotel but as it's an independent hotel I'm guessing they have to go slowly. Don't let that put you off, great staff, excellent breakfast, good area for lots of lovely small fishing villages and close to St Andrews if you have your own car. Altogether a good stay.

Room Tip: Ask for one in the old part of the building overlooking the sea

Toni, thank you for your comments following your stay - the refurb of a number of areas is very much part of our plans, and yes, this may take time as funds allow - in the meantime, we will continue to invest much time in ensuring that we offer and deliver the very best in food and service, and the attention to detail which will set us apart. All the best, AW Saddler.

Went to a wedding at the Old Manor and what a great time. Food was first class as were the staff Food was not the usual wedding food and what a change, Each table was served in turn all eight plates placed down at once, Beautiful scenes across the forth and the hotel is in beautiful surroundings too. Well worth the visit.
