“Perfect Break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2011

Scenery magnificent. Location A1. Within easy reach of many attractions including St. Andrews, National Trust castles, walks, picturesque fishing villages all within a 30 minute drive of the hotel. We are just back from a very relaxing and happy break. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff from the owner to the chambermaids. Our bedroom was very comfortable and spotlessly clean, as is the whole hotel. We had a spectacular view from our terrace to Bass Rock and beyond. The dining room has magnificent views and the food is of a very high standard, using lots of fresh local produce all beautifully presented. We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and we will be back very soon.

Thank you for your comments, which I was delighted to read. The staff throughout the hotel have been working hard to maintain and indeed improve standards, therefore it is most encouraging for us all to receive such positive feedback. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Kind regards.

Stayed here with work colleagues. The hotel is completely unpretentious yet pleasant and comfortable in all ways. We had rooms looking over the sea. Meals were served in a long conservatory with stunning views of the sea. Dinner was very good. The staff again, are not at all flashy, but very nice and friendly. This is the kind of hotel where you will feel relaxed and not on edge. They have got it absolutely right. OK you could maybe be picky and say the bedrooms feel slightly dated but that is a minor detail. They are spotless and my bed was blissfully comfortable. I'll be going back for sure.

This place had a nice view of the ocean and was pretty peaceful and relaxing but not good for young people. We stayed here 3 nights and wished we would have left after one. It was pretty clean but very dated and the bathroom was very strange. The staff were helpful and friendly and the breakfast was good. Overall just a little expensive and not much around to do.

Thank you for your comments following your recent stay - we have guests of all ages staying throughout the year, and for various purposes. Leisure visitors for example may have golf planned, or walks along the excellent Fife Coatal Path which runs past our front door. The area boasts numerous historical landmarks and places of interest, plus of course St Andrews and its many attractions. There are also the lovely East Neuk fishing villages up the coast, and miles of unspoilt beaches.

We would have been delighted to have put together a small "itinerary" for you over your three days here, incorporating all that is best in the area, and which could even have included a 30 minute trip to Edinburgh on the train from nearby Markinch Station.

Most guests however, at one time or another, simply enjoy the peace and tranquility they are seeking when they come to the area, and which they are guaranteed at the Old Manor.

All the best for the rest of your trip to the UK, and a safe journey home.

We stayed here for two days and can thoroughly recommend this lovely hotel. From the moment we checked in to the time we left the stff made sure that our stay was first class. The food was well presented. We worked from the table d'hote menu and the choice was excellent. The views from the restaurant are stunning (Book a sea view room ; we did not and wished we had!) With help ffrom reception staff we walked on the Fife Coastal way- spectacular views on a beautifully sunny day) If you are planning to do something similar and explore the East Neuk of Fife stay nowhere else.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view Worth it.

Had three nights in this hotel on DB&B basis. The receptionist mentioned that decorating was in process but the painting had been completed. This was not the case. We had 2 nights in the dining room watching the decorator painting the bar, at one point with the door open into the dining room. (between 7.30 and 8.30 in the evening)
Were booked into Room 18. This had an adjoining door to the room next door. We could hear all the conversation from the couple in this room as well as evevy word from their TV. Room 18 is dated with an old coloured sink and poor shower. The TV was ancient. Not worth the £95 per night. We requested another room . This was upstairs and much superior.

The food in the hotel was delicious - pity about the poorly trained staff- not enough cutlery on table, bread arrived after our soup course, wrong starter served etc.Staff needed some proper trrining about how to show guests to the tables, address guests and how to serve the food and drink. We were otherwise completely ignored by all the staff - no queries about how we were enjoying our visit etc.
Good: the food and views from the front rooms
Poor: Indifferen and and poorly trained staff. Dated rooms.

Thank you for your constructive comments. Naturally we are disappointed that your stay with us was less than satisfactory - during the recent refurbishment, there was a fair amount of disruption to our guests and the normal functioning of the hotel. That said, decorating work, albeit in a separate room, should not have taken place during dinner service.

We will be taking on board all your comments, and hope to see you again at some stage in the future.
