We stumbled into this museum after seeing the sidewalk sign opposite Burntisland Library where we had gone for maps of local walking tours. Luckily the museum was open, or the sign would not have been out and I doubt we'd have noticed the place tucked in among all the High Street shops. What delights were in store. A real working replica of the pre-electric telegraph, that you can use to make coded messages, telegraph machines, and - hold on to your seats, real rotary dialing telephones and typewriters. It is a surreal experience to see your kids poring over these and delighting over making them work, but there you have it. The staff of this museum are simply amazing, patiently showing each visitor each item and letting them play as long as they want, filling interesting snippets from history.

Dear lsaravinda

Thanks for your very positive comments. We try hard to offer an individual experience to each visitor and are particularly keen on getting children interested in science through hands on activities. We're glad you had such a great time.

Glad to see this museum on TripAdvisor - it's in my home area and I've visited it several times, but it's not widely enough known yet. It's well worth a visit, whether on your own or with a family; there's a staggering amount of interesting equipment, and plenty for children to look at, as well. Knowledgeable and friendly volunteers will guide you around the exhibition, if you want. It's open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from around 11 a.m., from May to end September, and I believe it can be opened for visiting parties at other times, by arrangement. It's the sort of place where you feel there's not enough time to take it all in during one visit, and you want to go again.

Dear Chris

Glad that you enjoyed your visit enough to come back. Hope to see you next year, when we'll have a completely new exhibition. As you're in Fife, why not pop in to see us next Sunday (11 Sep) on 'Doors Open Day'?
