“Easily Overlooked”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2012

Stopped here for a spot of lunch and to catch up with a business friend and regular. Despite two large parties going on we were looked after efficiently and enjoyed a hearty "light lunch" and beer. Will certainly be returning - clean, tidy and well run.

“Enjoyable food in Pleasant Atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

We have dined here about 4 times, which clearly shows we enjoy the place!
On our last visit the same 4 people were in our group and surprisingly it was not as busy as on previous occasions, however this enabled us to enjoy a nice drink at a table in the bar while we perused the menu. There is always a good selection of 'real' ales together with the usual lagers etc. The barmaid in attendance on the night was extremely pleasant.
The menus offers a good selection, and as with some other reviews the steaks are a plenty!
There was also a small selection of 'specials'.
We ate in the dining area, which is very useful when the pub is busy. The presentation of the food is very good.
A suggestion is to specify exactly how you like your steaks cooked!
The portions are large and in some cases i.e. chips they are probably too large; we must have left at least 70% of the chips served.
Overall another enjoyable night out

“Local Gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2012

I live in Bridgnorth and had heard good things about The George, so when we had some friends visiting us, trying to decide where to go for Sunday lunch, we thought we would give this a go. We rang up first and were told they couldn't seat us in the restaurant but had a table for 4 under the noticeboard in the bar. It was great! Comfortable bucket style seats around the table and plenty of space. The rooms are nicely decorated in a pale yellow which brightens it up inside. There was a good choice on the menu, I had roast pork loin and the crackling was divine! My husband is vegetarian and had the lasagne which came with a salad and garlic bread, although he helped himself to veges! Our friends had roast beef which they said was lovely. Vegetables were served separately and gravy was left on the table for us to help ourselves. Food was fresh and well cooked with a good selection of vegetables. We only had 1 course, we couldn't manage anything else; shame! Good choice of local ales, etc. Service was excellent. We will definitely go again.

“Steam your way to the perfect Sunday lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2012

Thank you "Davekil" for your review which helped us choose the George for the same reasons - elderly father and close proximity to the Severn Valley Steam Railway (a fantastic day out in its own right - so many choices for breaking the journey). The Sunday lunch was excellent. So much food, we only had room for the one - main course. Father had roast beef - and it appeared he had half a cow on his plate - he really enjoyed his meal - a good honest roast dinner. My husband had the pork - equally impressed. Myself - vegetarian lasagne - suprisingly good considering my expectations had not been high - the dish was plentiful and tasty. Salad and garlic bread also provided. The 3 main courses arrived with a selection of vegetables - plenty of selection and not watery or over cooked. Our table was near the bar, the decor was quite light which was a help as my father's eyesight is not good. The atmosphere was just right for a sunday lunch - the tables were all occupied - so please book ahead to avoid a wait - the staff all welcoming and very accommodating. As a table came free it was quickly filled. Just one thing to note... when you exit the station - turn immediate left and walk downhill through the car park you will then see "The .George" across the road. DO NOT cross the big bridge into the town.
The value was superb - one course for £8.95, 2 courses 11.95 and 3 courses only 14.95. If you can't book a meal on the steam train - this is the obvious alternative. Good food, value and at the end of the railway line! Of course we could even return for our next visit by car!
