“Value for money Sunday lunch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2011

Visited recently for Sunday Lunch. Requested to book for 1pm over the phone but were told there was already a party of 6 booked for that time so the chef would not be able to serve us both, so instead booked for half 12. Would concern me slightly if they were actually full if the kitchen would be able to manage, as apart from the table of six and our table of four there was probably only another six customers dining.

The Sunday menu is fairly limited but a selection of most things you would expect and at £11.95 for 2 courses not exactly expensive!! Between us we had the prawn cocktail, whitebait and fried camembert. All very acceptable but as you would expect from the price, not terribly large portions. For mains Pork, Haddock and Chicken Pie again all very nice but nothing exceptional. All was well cooked and accompanied with a decent bowl of veg.

The girls serving were very well trained, polite and friendly and the place itself still looks fairly smart after the refurb I would guess just over a year ago.

For a quick Sunday bite at a reasonable price faultless, but it certainly isn't gourmet!

“Good food with musical accompaniment.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2011

We stayed at the hotel and ate dinner, breakfast and lunch here. The food was consistently good using fresh ingredients, cooked with care and intuition from a locally-influenced menu with daily specials . Highly recommended. On Saturday nights there is live music after 9pm, so eat early if you want peace and quiet, However, the music, a bluesy set on the night we ate, was played well and although it limited conversation to the gaps between songs, it all added up to a fun and enjoyable evening. We drank a really excellent 2006 Banda Azul Rioja from Bodegas F Paternina which at £16 was a real bargain. Patrons can park free in the SVR car park opposite between 6pm and midnight. Excellent.
