“Nice spot - good food”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

We have passed this place for years now & finally decided to stop off for a Sunday Carvery.
Very nice welcome at reception & good service - all in all, good food on the plate within 10 minutes of sitting down - £9.99 each I think. Beer was good also.
The general menu looked good with some excellent choices, so will be back to try something else.

“Good Food and a peaceful stay”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

Good food and a relaxing atmosphere with special food evenings such as a North Country take on tapas that is more than filling! A great B&B spot with carvery dinners every evening as well as a good menu. Nice folks in charge and a popular spot with locals.

“Great lunch”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

Called in for lunch when travelling through. I ordered a salad, which was generous and lovely and refreshing, just what you want from a salad. My husband had fish and chips and he really enjoyed them. We would definitely return.

“Average Hotel with Average Service for Average Price”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

The en-suite "non-smoking" room provided in "the lodge" was visually attractive with a comfortable bed but had been a smoking room in the past. The “average” service was such that although breakfast was provided from 07-30 six days a week the staff present would not budge from the 08-00 start on Sunday. NB while the hotel website goes on about its food menus it indicates “The Gateway serves breakfast 7.30am -9.30am” = all week? – which written literature in the rooms [and staff] contradicts for the Sunday. Also it should clarify that stating “Food is served 7 days a week in the Gateway Restaurant and Bar between 12 noon and 9.00 pm, Monday to Saturday” means it has to be ordered sometime before 9.0 p.m. Finally the hotel also takes a non-refundable deposit when you first book, so bookers beware..

“Food was nice”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

We went in for a quick bite and the food was pleasant. It took a while to be served but the staff were polite. We had fish and chips which was nice. Warm and nicely presented. All in all a good place for an evening meal. Ambience not great for a special occasion though, could do with some music.
