Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: We are Open May - September, 2pm - 5pm, Tuesday till Friday (also Bank Holiday Sundays and Mondays). This romantic Gothic house is the lived in family home of the famous Gillow furniture making dynasty. Boasting unique, priceless pieces of Gillow furniture, Leighton's informal guided tours appeal to all ages. Outside the Hall are woodland walks, an abundant 19th century walled garden, herbaceous borders and roses, a fragrant herb patch and an ornamental vegetable plot. Every day at 3.30 pm (weather permitting), Falconer Jim Brown, gives flying displays with his birds of prey, where visitors get the chance to put on a glove and really get up close to these fantastic creatures. For 2015 we have installed a new petite children's play area. Our products have been sourced locally as we worked with a local playground company to maximize the space we had available. So we hope the children will enjoy these facilities. Please go to our website or Facebook page for entrance fees, or just give us a call.

My daughter got married at Leighton had a fantastic day. Sussie Reynolds is a great ambassador for the house. Full of Gillow furniture. The RSPB site is next door well worth a visit.

“Hawk Walk 24 November 2013”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2013

Just had an amazing experience and fabulous afternoon. A small group of us walked through the woods with Jim and peru the Harris Hawk she was beautiful and you can't help but admire the beautiful bird and the all the hard work that Jim obviously puts in to form such a great relationship with his birds. A must for any who likes animals. I can't think of a better way to spend a sunday afternoon than this, the peace and quite of the woods in the presence of a magnificent bird of prey. Thank you for a great Afternoon, I'll see you again soon!

Never realised how BIG the house was. The piano was gorgeous but not sure if it was ready for me playing Madness on it. Fantastic place.

“A stately home that doesn't take itself too seriously”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

Planned to fill a couple of hours on a wet afternoon - a delightful visit, entertaining and informative.
Visiting restricted between 2 and 5 p.m. Arriving promptly at 2 gives you 15 minutes before the first guided tour. Tour guide Pamela was knowledgeable, enthusiastic about what she does and, above all, fun. Lots of anecdotes spanning over 300 years of history. You tour where the family owners still live and are encouraged to use the furniture as you are led through the tour.
The first tour releases you in time for the display of birds of prey - a real, get close and don the leather glove if you want, experience - all delivered with a beautiful dry sense of humour.
Well worth the time and money!
