“Lovely lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2014

We haven't visited this establishment for many years and and were very impressed with the new look. It has a very spacious and comfortably furnished modern interior which we were not expecting from the very traditional exterior.
The staff were welcoming and friendly and were happy to give us plenty of time to relax over drinks before taking our lunch orders.
The menu, whilst not extensive has a good variety of choices. The food was well presented and cooked beautifully. The service was good with knowledgeable staff.
Altogether a great place to meet friends in comfortable surroundings.

Dear Pauline M,

Well Thank you and ...........welcome back.

Pebble Hotels acquired the hotel in 2007 and has since refurbished the restaurant bar to its present day light and airy, multi level bar and eatery. We serve a wide variety of guests here who come in either just for coffee, or a business meeting, a quick snack, Sunday lunch or full celebration dinner. We are open to hotel guests AND local guests,7 days a week from 9 am til late.
We appreciate your good comments on food quality, presentation and service received and look forward to welcoming you back soon, certainly now that you have "rediscovered" us.
Thank you for writing your review.

Stayed a couple of nights on business. Very well presented hotel with good size rooms and secluded outlook. Menu in the restaurant is a bit limited but the steak was excellent and cooked just as ordered . . . on both nights!
Service is pleasant and efficient although I wish they would not bring the wine opened to the table and then just leave it! Mentioned it to the manager on the first night so he could put it right but happened again on the second. Small detail that suggests there is still work to be done.
Overall, would recommend.

Dear Mr Wright,
Thank you for your positive comments. We are pleased to see you enjoyed your stay and dinner with us and will recommend us further. In regard to the pouring of wine, that is indeed a standard we are going to change. Past view has been just to 'open and leave the bottle' ,. we rather see a change in that and will amend the standard [and training to go with that ] in the next month or so. Time to improve on a standard that was set during the last couple of years as a directive from the top, so it will enable us to use our technical skill and enables us to converse more with our guests in the process.
We hope you will visit us soon again and let us have your views as to how we are doing.
Thank you

Lovely scenic hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The in house beauty salon, Potters Beauty Barn, is particularly welcoming offering a wide range of treatments, pampering and beauty advice. A particularly useful service if having an event there like a wedding where the bridal party can have their nails & make-up done or a relaxing massage before the big event. I haven't stayed there so cannot comment on the rooms but the bar and restaurant are welcoming and the food I have experienced there always good and well presented. I have attended a couple of functions there which have always been well run and the whole place has a lovely atmosphere. My only slight criticism would be as others have mentioned that the reception and main rooms tend to be a bit on the chilly side but I imagine are very difficult to heat. This can't be said of the Salon which is always warm and welcoming and benefits from a lovely heated treatment couch! I highly recommend you visit Gemma and Vicki, you certainly won't regret it.

Dear Stuandfran,
Thank you for your positive comments about our beauty salon, run and owned by Gemma. She will be pleased with your feedback and a boost for her business. the Salon runs somewhat independent from the hotel, but Gemma certainly looks after all guests beautifully and enhances the overall impressions of our service . We are also pleased with you comments about our bar restaurant ,we have a wide range of guests to cater for with all sorts of demands, and it great to hear that you are happy with our services there. The lobby is regrettably one large open space, with several exits, even into our Garden Room and heating wise, the winter presents us with major challenges here. Hopefully a future refurbishment can redress some of this.
We look forward to your continued custom.
Thank you for your time in writing this review.

Potters Beauty Barn is a beauty salon within the hotel. It is run by a lovely lady called Gemma. I have had wonderful treatments there, and can highly recommend her. Hotel visitors get 10% off treatments and she also has a loyalty card scheme for regular local clients. I have been going for 3 years and would not think of going anywhere else!

Dear Barbara B.

Thank you for your positive comments about our Beauty Barn, run as you say by Gemma. It is nice to get such a great feedback , as the BeaUTY BARN is not often mentioned by guests staying or using the skilled beauty treatments available. We shall ensure that Gemma sees your feedback, in fact she has your review already and she is over the moon.
Long may we see you use our beautician's services Thank you for your feedback.

This is a lovely hotel, very scenic, which on a summer's day no doubt looks stunning. Due to the reception area being so large, it was rather chilly both on arrival and departure, but nicely laid out, and the Christmas decorations were very good. Staff exceptionally friendly both on checking in and also in the restaurant for an evening meal and again at breakfast. Evening meal was taken with 20 plus people, pre ordered food which was nicely presented and very tasty. Staff again very helpful and friendly. Restaurant, could rather like the rest of the place, be a little warmer, it is winter, so some extra heat would have been good. My bedroom was lovely, enormous and comfortable bed, good hot shower, all facilities etc. Would like to stay here on a lovely summer's day, but recommend this regardless.

Dear WTO traveller,
Thank you for your positive review of your stay: we are pleased to read you enjoyed your stay, our hotel and our service. Pleased you mention our Christmas decorations. a specialism of our head housekeeper and her team, who year in ,year out, spend a vast amount of time dressing up our spacious hotel . we hope you enjoyed the special Christmas ambiance.
Our main lobby and restaurant are vast areas with all sorts of exit and connecting doors, and it proves difficult to keep the heat in. A log burner has made some difference in the restaurant Bar area and we are working on improvements in our hotel lobby area. Hopefully we will welcome you again in the summer when heating hopefully will not be a problem. By the time winter arrives again we hope to have improved our lobby temperatures.
We appreciate your time to review our hotel. With kind regards

My wife and I have attended the Potters Heron for twenty years every December for our Winchester Art Club Christmas lunch. The club is always given a private room for about 60 people, personal service and provision for a small exhibition of members' paintings as well as a bar and waitress service. The traditional Christmas dinner with turkey etc, Christmas pudding or fruit salad, coffee and mince pies with a cracker for everyone! The price is always reasonable £15 per head this year for everything.
This has been a success for at least twenty years and never a problem. The lunch is always tasty and nicely presented, extra veg and or gravy as required.
I felt it was time to give it the proper review that it has earned over all this time...

Room Tip: We have never stayed here but the food is excellent and there are several very large dining spaces p...

Dear Quilljar,
Thank you for your excellent review,We were pleased to again host the Winchester Art Club christmas luncheon this year and overheard lots of good comments on the day. Very nice indeed to see it "stated" in black and white. We look forward to looking after you and the Art Club in 2014 again: I understand you have re booked with us again following glowing reviews from many of your fellow art lovers.
We look forward to welcoming you back at Christmas next , or perhaps sooner?

I attended a family celebration on Saturday Night, my bill was paid by others and I can not comment on value for money. The front of this hotel is delightful, however the architechture behind the facade is reminiscent of the worst of eastern Europe.Room 30 has a view of some sort of cabin built on the roof. The room itself was well decorated, comfortable and very clean, plenty of nice towels and good bed and bed linen. The staff are very helpful. The food was of the worst sort of Brake brothers, 363 cuisine. Breakfast was particularly poor with underdone tastless sausage, and white fat speckled underdone cheap bacon, No pots of coffeee or tea served to you,but help yourself to tea bags and hot water.Toast good. This is accommadation with no soul.

Room Tip: If you like cabins and cables room 30 will be perefect

Dear Mr A.
I read your review with mixed feelings: It is a pity we could not convey positive images across the board. Room 30 is indeed not blessed with an enjoyable view and is normally used as a last resort: Clearly you were not advised of its challenges before your arrival. Equally our breakfast offering should have impressed you and it clearly did not and we apologize: A new menu and new drive to improve on these issues has been instigated and will consign these negative impressions to the past.
We hope we will be given a future opportunity to set the record straight.
thank you for your feedback.
