Situated on the main A48 at Broadoak (Newnham on Severn) and approximately half way between Lydney and Gloucester, this pub is about as close as you can get to the edge of The river Severn without falling in or getting washed away by the Severn Bore (at the right time of the year). I have been here before, many years ago, but then, it was under a different owner. The current owners have improved it and the interior setting is a fairly convincing replica of the inside of an sailing ship. Probably more convincing at night than during the day though. The welcome is friendly and the owner very chatty and knowledgable of the area. The lunchtime menu is well thought out with plenty of options. The quality of the food is good and the portions are generous. If you like chips, these are completely different from the general run of the mill. They are light fluffy and crispy and are obviously not a straight forward cut potato. Interesting....... The final bill for three of us was a pleasant surprise, showing that the food is good value for the money and a quality you won't complain about. Definitely a place to go back to.
