The location of this hotel right next to the old toll-bridge in St.Ives is quite simply superb. Very picturesque with lots of outdoor seating space for taking in the historic views. I state there in March so wasn't able to take advantage of the outdoor areas and the area had also recently been flooded. Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable enough but a bit dated. For example, my particular room had a curtained alcove instead of a proper wardrobe. The bathroom on the other hand was very modern and stylish but the light was operated by a PIR sensor instead of a traditional switch and the light would go out a couple of times when you were in the shower leaving you in total darkness. Once you figured out the you had a to wave a limb round the corner of the shower screen then the light would come on. Sometimes the light and the extractor fan would come on in the middle of the night for no apparent reason which was a bit annoying. I didn't have any real problems with the service but it all seemed a bit sleepy. Breakfast was okay and the view from the restaurant were quite simply superb. Connecting to the hotel WiFI was a long drawn out an convoluted process but once I got connected it worked okay. There was no in-room safe so had to carry valuables around with me. Restaurant and bar menu prices and selection looked okay but it was so quiet and depressingly dull that I ate out during the four nights that I stayed there. I think the hotel rests it laurels on its location but, if it livened up it's act a little, it good be a great spot. Maybe it has more buzz in the summer months when it can really cash in on its location.

Well situated Hotel in Cambridgeshire near A14 . Picturesque, especially during the snowy period of recent days. Staff all polite and very helpful, food good, wholesome breakfast and excellent carvery. Large secure car park. Hotel rooms a bit dog eared but upgraded shower and bathrooms show that they are making a great effort to improve the hotel. Function rooms large and fully functional!

This hotel deserve a better rap than many reviews posted here. I stayed in room 8, which has a very modern and clean bathroom straight out of a 5 star hotel.

THE GOOD
Rooms were spacious (for the UK). Mattress was OK, not great, not bad. A little firm. I slept very well
Breakfast was a decent buffet with many choices in an oversize dining room (presumably used for other functions) and a beautiful view of the nearby river and fields

THE BAD
Flat screen TV was tiny (little larger than a laptop screen).
Shower water pressure was on the feeble side (Brits may not mind, yanks will).
By 8:45am on a Saturday morning the maximum heat I could get (following their instructions) was tepid.
Bathrooms did not have a light switch. Fan and light automatically stays on several minutes after use.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room in the wing with new bathrooms.

I have had the misfortune of having to stay in this place for business on a few occasions. The staff are not polite and unhelpful. The rooms are just dire ! Very very tired with decor from 1983 and a smell to match.

I have to say though, there are a couple of rooms recently refurbished that are better but still barely a step up from a Travel Lodge.

Location is very good. Right in the town and on the river. Gardens and patio are nice ( mainly as you are out of your room at that point )

Bar open as long as you can stay awake which is good for those long business evenings and also helps as you can avoid going back to the awful room sober !!

Sorry to be so negative but really, there needs to be some significant improvements

Room Tip: Use the Slepe Hall Hotel round the corner !

Just stayed for a weekend. Given room 30 on arrival. Bathroom was dreadful. It needs a very deep clean and/or refurbishment. When we complained we were moved to room 22. What a difference. Modern bathroom, comfortable bed, lovely room. The staff were excellent. Far too much food - no chance of going hungry.
Ask about the room you will be given when you book.
