Unable to verify some of the poor ratings as my son and I have a lovely over night stop on a mini cycling tour.

The only downside was the small cooked breakfast - plenty for a child, but not for a adult and could have been a little hotter.

Value for money? At £69 for a clean comfy twin room, yes

A lovely over night stay on a weekend cycling tour with 10 yo son.

Room was lovely and clean (no signs of any cobwebs) and staff were polite.

Was concerned with the number of people in the bar, but couldn't hear them in the room.

Food was lovely and plentiful. Can't really comment on the negative reviews as we didn't have any of the same concerns.

Staff very good and polite,I had a single bedroom, plenty of room, comfortable bed.The wash basin was blocked, that was a little inconvenient,I reported that when I left. The breakfast was very good.Tea and coffee making facilities, plus bottled water.

Room Tip: My room was quiet,no outside noise, just a few doors banging inside.

Stayed, thankfully, for one night on 6/9/12,first impression more a B&B than a hotel, free parking on forecourt.Very small check in desk, young lady very friendly. But before we even had our room key the owner was 'on us' asking are we eating inhouse later he would reserve a table!!Went for a Chinese which was nice and good value, only 5 minutes walk.
Our room,No 5,was small and not very clean as was the toilet/bathroom,the carpet needed cleaning and was wrinkled. The room and all areas were shabby, dated and need a total refurb. Some background music in bar/restaurant area would 'mask' the sound of the knives&forks clanging on the plates, only 5 people eating.
TV in room not working, went and told manager/owner,he came to our room and confirmed TV not working!!!!Said he would replace it,after waiting 20 minutes went back downstairs and told him not to bother with replacement.
We had 3 pillows between us,I said to my wife did not want to 'bother Mr Happy' again. The bed was honestly,in 50 years of travelling, the most uncomfortable I have ever had the displeasure to sleep on.Breakfast was not great, fried eggs like frisbies and the poached eggs resembled golf balls.SHOULD HAVE REVIEWED TRIP ADVISOR BEFORE BOOKING!!

I have stayed here three times and on all occasions have been greeted warmly by the staff. The rooms are adequate and the location is quite goo to wander around St Ives.

What has disappointed me is the fact that on two of the three occasions I have had no hot water in the morning. This appears to be a problem in the main house as the annexe was ok. The first time I received an apology from reception - these things happen. The second time (earlier this week) when I mentioned it the receptionist was very matter of fact and intimated it happened regularly and they couldn't sort the problem. NOT GOOD ENOUGH'

Room Tip: Try to get an annex room these seem better equipped.

we've recently got married and had our reception at Oliver's Lodge Hotel, from the moment we knew we were going to hold our reception there the staff were absolutely fantastic giving us advice for nothing, but if you called the hotel wanting to speak to Nelson, you'd be answered by a rude male voice who turns out to be the owner of the hotel, he just hangs up on you before you could finish saying your name. on the day of our wedding, things were going fine but it could have been fantastic not having the owner lingering around making our guest feel uncomfortable. the food was to die for and Nelson and his staff were fantastic, trying to keep the bride calm. We were greeted by our guests in the morning politely informing us of poor room cleanliness with cobwebs, flies squashed on the wall, dust on cabinets and one guest had to clean her bathroom and toilet because of hair and urine which were left there. We complained to the hotel owner but he tried to fend of our complaints by accusing our guests of dirtying the rooms, so our complaints did not count.... will definitely not be going back there and would not recommend any one to......

We have just returned from a weekend with friends at this hotel and I have to say that we were disappointed in the overall demeanour of the hotel. Although clean, the bed was very hard which didn't help give a pleasant night's sleep. As for the rest of the room, I can only state that it needed a thoroughly good clean! From the hand marks all over the doors, to the dust on the skirting boards, to the cobwebs in the bathroom corners - the Hotel Inspector would have a field day. As for the shower - give it a good 15 minutes before hot water can be expected and it took a good clean of the head before the jets allowed any water to come through. The bar furniture was also very tired with masking tape patching damage and, again, both the bar and the conservatory furniture could benefit from a good clean. Having said all that, the food was exceptionally good. There is an Indian menu as well as a European one and everything was way above standard. I would not stay at this hotel again but would definitely use the restaurant if I were ever in the area.

Room Tip: We noticed there were some rooms in a courtyard. These could possibly be of a better standard but I...
