“Good Budget Hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2012

We have just returned from a weeks break to this Hotel. After reading some of the reviews on here we were a little bit worried about staying here, but we all enjoyed our stay. We did'nt expect 5 star luxury from a 2 star hotel, but for what we paid it was well worth it. Yes the rooms are small and could do with a little TLC but they were clean. It is'nt the quietest hotel on a night as others have mentioned, but you come to expect this on some holidays. I would like to give a little praise also to the Reception staff, as we were greeted with a smile and check in/out was straight forward. The guy on the desk on our last night even offered to make us a breakfast pack up when he found out we were leaving at 4-30am which was nice of them. Pineda it self is a nice quiet resort with some nice eating places. And it is very handy for jumping on the train to Barcelona (about 1hr-15mins) which is a city well worth visiting. If you are looking for a cheap break in the sun, i would recommend The Merce, if you are looking for 5 star luxury at a cheap price, then i suggest you look elsewhere. Thank you Merce for an enjoyable week. S Parkin.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday, if you want a cheap break dont bother goining to this hotel! The receptionist who booked us in was not familiar with "customer service" she continued to speak with others who approached reception, cutting off mid sentence and just leaving us hanging there! How rude! The room was discussting, stunk of something awful, this was according to Miss Rude on reception a better room!!! We purchased some airfreshner kept the door open. The food was dire toaster not working, food cold and in some instances could not define what it was, room not cleaned, bedding not changed all week, watch your money, a member of staff tried to short change by 10 euros, head waiter very rude, although waiting staff where very nice and as far as I could see worked very hard.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel, would not put a pet in this one!

first time we,ve been to this resort, we are mid 40,s and was looking for a quiet short break so decided on this little hotel going for bed and breakfast .its situated in the north east of the town centre..as with most hotels there are positives and negatives so lets start with the negatives.. the room was quite small that comprised of 2 single beds and bathroom with a small balcony with 2 chairs and a table.. the shower ran very weakly .there was no tv or phone.. the breakfast consisted of very greasy bacon. eggs that didnt look cooked and the sausage was miniture hotdog sausages..that is were the negatives end, the positives are the room was cleaned every day with fresh bed sheets and towels daily. plenty of plug sockets and air con,, FREE wifi, decent sized pool on the roof and an extra rooftop space for sun worshippers, the roof also consisted of a bar and food area.. there was daily entertainment in the evening of a live show followed by a disco.. the hotel also offered travel tours and daily trips with guides to barcelona. the food as i mentoined earlier also had a good side there was plenty choice as well as the fry up there was also 3 different cerials countless cold meats for sandwiches white and brown bread toast crossaints cakes. choice of fruit juices coffee tea chocolate. infact pretty much every kind of breakfast you can imagine . as for the bells on the church some people have mentioned we heard them from about 8am and the last one about midnight but they were,nt that loud infact it was more like a background noise.. the walk through a very pleasant town down to the beach is about 10 mins max at a easy casual pace. the bucanner pub on the sea front is well worth a visit its english with free wifi and very cheap.. all in all an excellent choice of hotel and very quiet.

Room Tip: we were on the 2nd floor and had no problems sleeping

28September, 2012
booked a cheap holiday at this hotel, stayed in a small but well cleaned room on the fourth floor, same floor as the rooftop bar on the opposite side of the hotel. For the price I paid I cannot fault this hotel, it is comfortable for groups of people to sit around, there's plenty of space to spread out in the lobby and in the bar..at this late time in the season there was entertainment on late in the downstairs bar. The staff work hard and are polite. If you want a five star hotel, book into one. This is well situated, you can walk through the various squares and boutique shops to get to the beach, and lo and behold, catch a train from the beach straight into catalunya square in Barcelona for 8 euros..then get a touristic bus and travel of three different routes all around Barcelona, whilst listening to information about the attractions. there is a trip to the FIESTA at the Castle..that is brilliant..the show was fab..with free drinks which were not just sangria, there were bottles of wine, as many as you desired. A trip to monserrat, also ..but you dont get much time to spend there, only an hour or so, make sure you get to the bascillia for 1 oclock when the choir boys sing.

The hotel is next to a gothic church..which does chime ever quarter of an hour from 8.00 whilst 22.00..it didnt bother me..i dont have to live there..There is a very big market that runs along the beach on a friday..where fruit is very cheap..and some good clothing items too.

I liked this hotel..the pool is on the roof, it's small but plenty of space for sun bathing as there is another two decks to bath, complete with a pool area bar and restaurant. The bar man was very funny..some guy came to pay his 'tab' and he leaped from out the kitchen with a flower in his mouth and said " no no..you pay 2.50 euro for photo please..you not pay me yet..2.50 for photo please [ it's ok..he comes from Barcelona] lol there is some reference to a moody bar man in the main restaurant..and? at least you get your glass on wine or beer served,,he's very quick in that deparment...when he's not on you may just die of thirst!! lol the food is take it or leave it..if you dont like one thing..eat another!! I found it ok..there was plenty of choice hot and cold..and some times you had surprises like whole half chickens..or thick real chips...my only gripe is although i never failed to be late for breakfast 8.00 am on the dot, I SOMETIMES still got cold fried eggs...i dont think they know how to work the bain maree ..but there is a microwave if you must nuke your food..i like to abstain from nuking. There's a huge bookcase full of books to read..i just picked up 50 shades of gray...obvioulsy the donor had more serious things to entertain their selves with..anyhows..i will go back because i paid for what i got, and i was a happy bunny....here's some real photos too

oh..and dont forget..there are three computers in the lobby .cost you half a euro for seven minutes but do you really want to be stuck behind the computer screen? like me..

Room Tip: i was on the fourth floor..there are some lovely big rooms with big tiled patios..my room was single...

Booked 5 days to use as base for Barcelona...but really wished we had just got an hotel in Barcelona.First impressions are ok,as reception & bar area quite smart. First room was an internal room facing a wall dripping water & smelled damp..we asked to be moved & got another with no daylight as you could almost touch the outside wall...which also had outside running water. We asked to be moved again, but had to wait until 10.30am as hotel as full.Again,we got an internal room but at least we could see the sky the balcony! Rooms are very basic & it was cheap..but the headboards are nailed to the wall & swivel & knock every time you get into bed. The walls are paper thin so it was constant knocking & we could hear snoring next door! so...very little sleep.Staff are really nice..they didn't seem a bit surprised by the complaints, there were always people at reception with complaints (my hairdryer didn't work & bulb in bedside light had gone, but I didn't have the heart to tell them). Pool bar on 4th floor was run by a very amiable guy...but it is very shabby, as was the pool area on floor above. There is horrible fake grass & really old sunbeds...we went up once to have a look . We booked half board as price between B&B & HB was negligible...but we only ate once...it is terrible.I was hoping for better after the reviews & I didn't expect much for the price, but I really would rather pay a bit more. The beach is nice at Pineda but the town is a bit grotty....sadly, would not return

Room Tip: Top floor rooms look more modern ( but you will hear the church bells very 15 mins!)or request an ex...

For what we paid we did very well. If you want a quieter stay, don't come here. There are lots of teenagers coming for short stays. They don't mind about coming from the disco downstairs, to their rooms, at three am singing, shouting and clattering along the tiled corridors in high heels. (That was just the men LOL) Cleaning wasn't done very well due to the fast turnaround. Food was average but you always found something. Bit of a scramble in the canteen-like restaurant. It was buffet style with everybody bumping into each other, with hot food or drinks. One of us had to stay at the table or your food was cleared off and somebody else was sat there. A case of staff too keen. The staff are excellent on the whole. The walls are thin. We were waking up to next doors alarm.! The roof pool was not maintained properly as it was closed for cleaning one day. A lot of sunbeds had broken slats under the nylon covering, which made it very uncomfortable. Drink prices on a par with England but more generous measures. Entertainment every night for free and quite good. Location is good with not too far to the beach. Pineda is a lovely Spanish town less commercialised than some along that coast. We would go back but to a different hotel.

Room Tip: Higher the better. There are lifts. On the corner under the pool is a large family room. It has a la...

I stayed here for a week with my boyfriend at the beginning if September, we booked it last minute as a cheap little get away. I had read the reviews and was a bit anxious about staying here as they all seem to be different so it seemed a bit hit and miss. When we first got there it was at night and there didn't look much around, it may also be that we got dropped off around the corner from the hotel next to a petrol station so there generally is not much around (its easier for the busses as there isnt much room down the streets to park)

Anyway, when we got there the guy on the desk was polite and his england was good so he told us what to do to check in etc. The rooms are canny, we requested a balcony and we got it which was nice of them. The room was clean and basic but we didn't mind because we are rarely in the room so dont need tvs etc, there was no air con but there was a fan. We have clean sheets everyday which is great. We were placed on the 4th floor our room was right opposite the church, the church is really nice. The bells ring quite a bit but we weren't bothered by it, its a nice touch I liked being opposite the church its a nice bit of scenery.

The hotel itself is pleasant we had our breakfast here every morning theres a big variety we were nicely surprised it tasted nice as well. There was entertainment on every night which was good to watch and the bar is reasonably priced was about €1.40 for a little glas of wine which was a bargain! The staff were pleasant apart from one David Villa lookalike but I think he just had a chip on his shoulder the rest where great! There is a big disco under the hotel I would have never known it was there its very random but good for when the bar closes and you fancy a dance lol. The bar/terrace is also really good theres plenty of sun beds and its quite a big area its nice to look at the view whilst relaxing in the sun! The little snack bar was nice they have toasties burger chips etc so something for everyone, the guy who works there is funny and really friendly. The pool is also good we never used it as we always go to the beach wherever we go, but we would have used it if we were there longer.

Generally, this hotel was a nice surprise. On the last day our flight wasn't until 6 and theres nothing worse than waiting around and getting al sweaty so we asked to keep the room, they said its possible or we could get another but they weren't sure. Anyway in the end we got to keep the room until we had to leave for a charge of €20 which was great as we have never been able to do this before. The area is nice its a 10 minute walk to the beach and you can walk through the little square to get to the main area with bars/restaurants which is nice and clean.

I would definitely recommend this to people who want a cheap but nice holiday for a 2* its brilliant, nothing beats friendliness !!

Room Tip: Choose a balcony
