“Excellent family hotel”

On arrival in Pineda de mar I was worried about where I had brought my family. The area looks quite scruffy and is full of graffiti. DO NOT BE PUT OFF! This hotel is lovely and there is no need to outside.
The hotel is very clean and the staff very friendly. Food was good, Always plenty of choice and childrens options. Never had to wait for a table and only small queues for the cooked to order station. We were all inlcusive and certainly had our moneys worth. There was a different cocktail for AI guests every night (which are lovely) and they even did non alcaholic cocktails for the children.
Plenty of sunbeds and lots of pools to choose from. It was a bit windy when we first arrived so the indoor pool was great.
The beach is nice and quiet and the hotel is only a 10 min walk to the train station which will take you to Barcelona. A return ticket is approx 10 euros.
The Animation team were fantastic, Great entertainment for kids of all ages. They did face painting, Mini disco, games. Every evening at 10pm there is a show aimed at the whole family. The magic act was amazing as was the chinese acrobats and the fireworks brilliant.
Pineda is very quiet and there is not much to do outside the hotel but this hotel is so good there is no need to go outside, The team keep you well fed, watered and entertained! What more could you ask for.

We have just returned from a 1 week stay at the Golden Taurus Park resort. We travelled with Thomson and stayed on an all inclusive basis. Overall we found our stay a one of contrasts.

In terms of the good points, the rooms were spacious and kept meticulously clean on a daily basis by the housekeeping staff. The entertainment provided for the kids by the both the hotel's entertainment team and the 2 Thomson kids club reps was excellent. The hotel staff on reception and in the restaurant/bars were also very friendly and welcoming. The hotel also occupies a great location on the promenade at Pineda de Mar with views over the sea. There isn't much in terms of shops in Pineda de Mar itself but the larger town of Calella is only around 20 minutes walk away. There is also a railway station in the resort around 15 minutes walk from the hotel with half hourly train services to Barcelona (journey time of around 1 hour, 10 minutes). This is excellent value for money (32 euros for a family return ticket), considerably less than Thomson were charging for their coach excursions.

In terms of the downside to our holiday, we were disappointed that the management of Thomson appear to have economised on the number of reps which they have available and this did cause some problems.

In terms of the Thomson kids club there were only 2 reps for the entire resort and this led to ourselves and other parents having to queue for unnecessarily lengthy periods of time to get our kids into sessions as places were strictly limited. We have travelled with Thomson over the last 2 years to another resort in Majorca and the kids club there was much better staffed. This clearly wasn't the fault of the 2 kids reps at the resort who did an excellent job but Thomson management in our view need to look very carefully at this issue.

Furthermore, on the final night of our stay the coach transfer pick up at the hotel descended into total chaos with guests rushing for the coaches, which at times were moving, and throwing their luggage on board to the total disregard of others. This in our view seriously endangered the safety of our children and the children of other guests as well as frail elderly passengers and could have been avoided if more reps had been on hand to manage things better. Initially there was no rep at all to handle things as there was only 1 rep at the hotel and she was busy inside dealing with other guests who weren't leaving that night.

The only downside in terms of the hotel itself was the food. This was of very average quality and we would have expected better for a supposedly 4 star hotel. At dinner in the evenings the restaurant was also clearly too small to accommodate all diners and this led to lengthy queues at certain times.

Overall, this is a great resort for families but there are clearly some issues re the food and queues at dinner which need to be addressed and we were very disappointed at the level of rep support provided by Thomson who in our view should know better. We will be seriously considering whether or not we book with Thomson again for next year as a result of this.

We stayed here for one week from 18/05/13 - 25/05/13 and we had a great time. I will get a couple of negative comments out of the way first. I found the food a bit repetitive and not the best selection in the world, there was nothing wrong with it, but a bit more variety would have been nice. Children were allowed to run about unsupervised while their parents were nowhere to be seen, no doubt in the bar, you know the type. This situation repeats itself in the restaurant where, I for one, don't want other peoples little darlings running around my dinner table and don't get me started about the noise.

The hotel is lovely with excellent rooms, ours was on the third floor and had lovely views of the pool and sea. The room was spotless as was the rest of the hotel.
The staff were fantastic and the lady who is responsible for guest services, Kelli, deserves a special mention. Her customer skills as well as her local knowledge need to be applauded. The Thomson team were superb as well.
The area around the hotel is fairly quiet however you can take the train to Barcelona for about €10 return with the journey about one hour each way. The station at Pineda is a 15min. walk away from the hotel. If you want to go for a drink or something to eat try the Buccaneer pub which serves excellent food and drinks all at reasonable prices, again, a 15 min stroll.
There is a local tax of €1 per adult per night payable on check in. We were advised of this when we booked with Thomson so thanks for letting us know.
In summing up the hotel represented excellent value. Sort out the unruly kids and vary the food so that next time I visit my rating will be higher.

One week at Golden Taurus Pk Resort. Great for children,geared for children. Noise
of unruly children, especially at mealtimes, spoilt every evening for us. Butlins in the 60s was a calmer place.
Food was poor quality, not Chefs fault, down to Management..Bar prices not cheap. All staff were polite, very pleasant and hardworking.
HOLIDAY TAX of l euro per day was a complete surprise as nobody, when booking this holiday, ,had told us about it.,Apparently this is law in Spain as from this year!! WHY DIDN'T THOMSON'S TELL PEOPLE WHEN BOOKING???.

18th May - 25th May 2013. Stayed for a week & thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. We had booked half board but upgraded to All inclusive when we arrived. Staff on Reception were very helpful & nothing was a problem. Room was on the 1st floor, facing the pool. Room nice & clean with a good sized bathroom. Clean towels, products refreshed every day in the bathroom, beds made & room cleaned every day. Food in the restaurant of a high standard & a varied selection. Salads, meats, fish, vegetarian section, kids section. Always a good variety each day. Food cooked to order, steak pork, chicken etc. at breakfast fresh Cooked omelettes or pancakes. Chefs always willing to oblige. Although some people do need to be shown how to queue!!! Food always piping hot, I have read reviews on here that state otherwise?? Always received great service at the bars as well, with a variety of drinks & a house cocktail every day. Plenty to do around the hotel all day. With the entertainment team doing a fantastic job day & night. Very child orientated with kids clubs running at certain times. For small kids a soft play area inside & outside. In the evening you have 3 different Bar areas to choose from, so if you fancied something quieter go & see Neil in the Habana Bar. Three outdoor pools, two outdoor kiddies pools & a small indoor pool. Plenty of loungers to choose from. As a tourist resort the area is fairly quiet, so if you are looking to party all night long this is not the resort for you. All the staff in the hotel very helpful. My only gripe is that one of the Thomson reps was very miserable & needs a customer care course or a personality transplant. The rest of the team were excellent. WIFI could be better although they don't charge so that's a plus. The pools were a wee bit chill as it is early in the season, they could heat the kiddies pools. We visited Barcelona for the day which was easy as the train station was only 10 mins down the road. Also went to Marineland as a organised trip, which we all enjoyed, still reliving the Black Hole. Big market on the Friday as well. All together had a fab time & we are going to rebook for next year for 10 days. A holiday is what you make it & we made it fun.

spent another 14 days here,the entertainment is still good,the hotels team are better than the professionals,the rooms are clean and theres plenty of things to do for kids and adults.The indoor pool needs a good clean,but the food lets the hotel down cheap meat and tinned veg.The Tompson team where a lot better this year very friendly,first time ever!But be prepared for a 1 euro a day per person,over 16 ,holiday tax that no one bothered telling us about till we got off the plane.There was a virus going around the hotel my wife was in bed for 2 days with it me and my granddaughter got a less harmfull version,the hotel must have known about it as some of the staff had had it,but nobody seemed concerned!

Room Tip: its only the single rooms that aren,t very good

We booked this holiday due to the brilliant reviews...BIG mistake! We have always Ben with Thomson 4* or more and this hotel just scrapes 3! Massive que outside the hotel to check in...room tiny awful view and no sun to balcony our room number was 134. The entertainment is SO loud and doesn't stop till around 1am and the kids are still up :-S kids run up and down corridors screaming all night! The walls are so thin! The only thing the cleaner ever did was mop the floors but not the balcony one! Dust everywhere and under the bed was disgusting the decor in the room is plain and miserable we felt like we were in a 2* hotel in magaluf! Full of Spanish people who are so rude and push in front and barge u out of the way! U have to que at ALL meal times and have to sign a bill every drink or food you get even when all inclusive which was annoying and strange what was the point of us wearing a band on our wrist? You can only get certain snacks at particular times. We didn't find the staff helpful or the reps. Thomson charge a fortune for trip to Barcelona aswel we went on the train for 9€ each saving over 100€!! The food is always the same and cold the meat was dry and no choice only one meat and fish on every night it was pork most nights. The desserts were also the same every night. They had a Chinese night on so we were looking forward to that but of course it was awfull! We ended up having to eat elsewhere which we wernt happy with because being all inclusive we didn't take much money. Worth going to buccaneers down the road English pub finally some friendly faces! Nothing in the area and beach not very nice. This holiday has put us off going anywhere in Spain or Catalonia we will stick to what we know in future! Very disappointed :-(
