“Diving Hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

We picked this hotel after reading trip advisor and made an informed decision, one customer called it extraordinary. I am sure this came from a diver. This hotel is great as a diving holiday hotel only.We expected a little more than this. On arriving we asked about the parking to which they informed us there was none we specifically asked in an email for parking and was told parking was available we had to park 500 meters away on the beach. We had the email from them stating there was parking available We were then given a room that faced a wall. Thanks to the girl on reception this was changed to a room with a view, however the room left a lot to be desired. The bathroom had no tiles on the floor which left your feet dirty after getting out of the shower. The bathroom had no extractor fan and the sink took an age to empty there was also no plug. The bed was comfortable enough but the base of the beds were dangerous as we kept catching our feet and legs as we went passed the end of the beds. Above our room was we think the laundry a lot of noise.
The staff in the dining room and especially the night porter were exceptional as the two young girls on reception, however the male members of staff on reception, I felt were unapproachable and could learn to smile at their customers. As I say in the beginning this is a good hotel or a great diving hostel but that is all it has no luxuries or none that we found, A tip for the management you should spend a night in your rooms and then you would experience what your guests do. Room 311

Room Tip: ASK for a sea view,

First of all thanks for your feedback who help us improve.
I would like to comment the misunderstanding about the parking. Our hotel has never had a parking, so we never offer this service. We think that perhaps the mail about you told, was sended by a internet travel company, and not directly for us.
In any case this complaint, which was registered at reception, also served for us to review the description of our hotel in all online travel agencies where we appear; and we realise that in some of them, the parking was between the services of the hotel. Now is arranged.
We really feel bad for your dissatisfaction, but it’s very difficult for all the hotels to control the 100% of the informations that appears in internet descriptions.
About the room, the hotel has 40 renovated rooms and 23 to renew. I understand that the first room was a renovated one in the back side of the hotel, and the second room, was an older one, but with a view. It was about 15th of August, in peak season; we really tried to do the possible offering you the chance to choose between both of them; but we apologise if we didn’t get it; we understand that there is nothing worse than an unfulfilled expectation.
All the rooms in the hotel have the same price and the hotel policy is to assign them in order of entry of reservations. If a client asks us for room with certain characteristics and we don’t have it, we expose it clearly before the booking, as this the customer can decide whether to book or not.
We are sorry if your stay did not comply with your wishes, we like to be a diving-hotel, and we appreciate your positive assessment in this regard, but we want also offer to all our customers a pleasant and peaceful seafront accomodation, according to their expectations

The hotel is situated right on the marina, opposite the Club Nautic in L'Estartit. You can't actually see the Medes Islands from the hotel, but the view over the sea is lovely anyhow. You can see the Islands after a couple of minutes' stroll along the front.
The hotel has LOADS of staff, who all seem very friendly and efficient. They humoured us with our limited Spanish (sorry, the extent of our Catalan is saying "good morning"!) but also spoke excellent English, as well as French and German that I overheard.
The room was basic but clean, although the shower/bath looked like it was in need of a little TLC - there was quite a lot of limescale around it. The beds were also a little soft for me, and I had a sore back in the morning, but this is obviously personal preference.
The seafront bars and restaurants are all in easy walking distance. We chose the restaurant Salines for a really excellent meal.
The hotel also doubles-up as a diving centre and is wonderfully located for this, although we didn't take advantage on this (very quick) stay.
The free Wifi throughout the hotel is relatively fast and easy to pick up. The code to connect is on a notice board in the lobby, so there's no need to bother staff to ask for it.

Great hotel for diving, in front of the port and 5 minutes by foot to the boat. The food was very good and with variety. The staff was very helpful, whenever we need. Recommend... a lot!!!

The hotel was an adequate place to stay at an affordable price. The staff was very helpful and courteous. The breakfast buffet was also adequate to get a bite to eat in the morning. The room we had was kind of small with very hard beds, but functional. It was nice to have a balcony to overlook the street. Some rooms, however, appeared to have an obstructed view of the street, so ask for an ocean view. While they advertised free Wi-Fi, we found it did not work on a first floor room and had to go into the lobby or bar to view the internet. They did have a terminal in the lobby to use to pick up e-mails. There is no parking on site, but they did send us to the beach parking lot about 400 to 500 meters away for free parking.

This is classed as a 2* hotel but the cost was the same for one night compared to that of a 2 night stay in a 4*Hotel in Bilbao..
When we arrived we didn't receive a greeting, we were ignored, as the male receptionist was using his computer whilst facing us. The rooms were basic , we were put at the back of the hotel, so nothing to look at but understandable for the star of the hotel. It was extremely noisy, as some guests returned late and there is no carpet on the corridor floors.
Breakfast was poor, the bacon and eggs scarce, by the time it arrived, the guests used it and you were left waiting for re-supply which didn't arrive.
I would suggest this is called a "Hostel", as it certainly was not a hotel. However, it was clean.

Would not recommend. Please look at my other travels as I am rarely negative.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2010

My husband and I have just returned from a fortnight's holiday on the Costa Brava. We chose to rent a private apartment in a family house which was great apart from the bedroom. It was too hot and lacked ventilation and the beds were little more than camp beds with a piece of foam laid on the top. After 12 nights of not being able to sleep, we drove down the coast a little way to L'Estartit and decided to stay the night somewhere just to get a good night's sleep. We asked at the Tourist Office for some recommendations for an air-conditioned hotel that wasn't too expensive. Hotel Les Illes was on the list and was very close to the Tourist Office so we went to take a look. The receptionist was friendly and let us check out the room before we actually booked in and on discovering that the air-conditioning worked brilliantly and the beds has proper mattresses on them, we decided to book the hotel for the night. Our room was on the 2nd floor at the front and despite being slightly further up the narrow lane that runs along the front of the hotel, we did have a little bit of a sea-view. There was a spacious balcony with a table and 2 chairs and the sliding doors fitted well and kept out any external noise. The hotel was full of divers and there were constantly crowds of wet-suited people hanging around in the reception and on the entrance steps but our room was totally quiet during the night. The hotel is 3 star but was clean and well equipped and as good as some 4 star hotels that I have stayed in. Our room had 3 single beds, a fitted wardrobe, a couple of bedside tables and a little dressing table with a mirror over it. There was also a flat-screen TV with a fairly good selection of channels. The bathroom was compact and had a small bath with a shower over it, closed in with a sliding glass shower screen, a toilet and a handbasin. There was also a wall-mounted hair dryer and an extractor fan. There was an extra pillow and 2 blankets in the wardrobe in case of the nights becoming cold (some chance with the 36 degrees Celsius outside!) And most important of all - the air-conditioning worked brilliantly! After 12 nights of unsuccessfully trying to sleep in an oven, the temptation of just being able to lie on a comfortable bed in a cool room was too much to resist. You don't know what you've got till it's gone and we were so missing having a comfortable bed that we just laid there enjoying the comfortable mattresses and the cool air. After a fabulous night's sleep, the inclusive breakfast was excellent and included eggs and bacon, cakes, cereals, breads, toast, fruit juices and fruit, cold cuts and cheeses. We would have spent our last night there too but we had to get back to our rented apartment to collect our stuff. To us, that was 88 euros well-spent!

Hotel Les Illes was our last stay on a bicycle trip around Catalonia. Great hotel. Nice and clean rooms. The very friendly staff, from manager to room maid, made us feel like a big family. Great buffet breakfast and dinner. Free internet access in the lobby (bring your own computer). Just at the mainstreet and very close to beach, sailclub and diving. 18 hole golf some 15 km away.
