I say surprisingly because, having holidayed in l'estartit for many years in the 1980s and 90s when my children were growing up, this development and surrounding area (which I always presumed went up in the hey day of package holidays in the 1960s) was always for us the tatty end of this lovely little town. However, Salles has taken over one block of the large Pineda development and modernised it. The joy of it is that with these apartments being so old, they are of a good size compared to the newer developments and have been brought up to scratch very well. They are scrupulously clean and extremely well kitted out in the kitchen area (microwave, dishwasher, generous size fridge freezer, induction hob, oven and also a washing machine on the terrace, - but you have to 'borrow' an iron from Reception which I found baffling). Table and 4 chairs in the dining area. Nice large terrace which also had a table and 4 chairs and both the bedroom and the living room had patio doors out to the terrace. We had a one bedroom apartment which was for 4 as the sofa was also a bed settee and this would be perfect for a couple with 2 children but not so great for 4 adults. My only grouse would be that the bedroom itself was a little cramped with the space around the bed not being quite wide enough for a bedside table on each side which was a little annoying but hardly the end of the world. The bathroom has a bath with nice shower over and modern sink and w/c in the bathroom, which again was a good size room. We were on the 2nd of 4 floors and, whilst we mostly used the stairs, there never seemed to be a problem with the 2 (small) lifts. Our terrace overlooked the street and the other side of the development overlooks the beach/sea although I noted that you would need to be on a high floor to get much of a view as there are so many trees and this side could have noise from the swimming pools as there are two - one for Salles and one for next door apartment block. The swimming pool is on the beach side of the property and only accessed by exiting and walking around the building but there are a couple of toilets poolside. It is a nice pool with a big terrace to one side generously equipped with loungers. It loses the sun by around 4 pm. There is a supermarket and bakery directly below the building and several cafes and restaurants within 1 or 2 mins walk making the location for the beach, shopping and eating out unbeatable and the town centre is a mere 10 mins walk away along the beach. You can have an allocated parking space at the rear of the property for a charge but we didn't bother with this and always managed to get a space quite nearby even though it was the height of the season - and you can aways park on the beach in any case! Reception is manned all day bar a 2 hr afternoon siesta. There is air conditioning which worked quickly and silently. The flat screen TV sadly only shows Spanish programmes - not even one British/US news programme. Having looked at a LOT of apartments in l'Estartit this year - and discovered how many of them have not been much upgraded since my last visit several years ago - I was absolutely delighted with this apartment and I can highly recommend Salles as a nice and also conveniently located place to stay in l'Estartit.
