We have not long returned from a 4 night stay at Castell Montgri and had a great time (sun holidays).

Although mainly used it for the mobile home as we went out to various places during the day we couldn't really fault it.

The site is massive with 3 pools. La Bassa has the most stunning surrounding scenery and would say it was mainly aimed at the adults. The Panorama pool had great views and was the busiest of the pools, the third pool was mainly for smaller children. There seemed to be plenty to see or do. There was a supermarket which was expensive so would advise to use the Lidl which is opposite the site or one of the Supermercats in Estartit or Torella De Montrgri as they are much cheaper and have a lot more to choose from.

Our mobile home was smaller than expected and not particularly clean, considering we had to pay a £50 deposit to ensure it's cleanliness. The previous occupants clearly didn't know what a mop was for. That aside we had no major complaints. Our neighbours had an issue with ants, we had the odd 1 which is to be expected considering the location but that was it. The weather was fantastic and we spent our second to last day lounging outside sunbathing.

Other than the size of the mobile home (will upgrade in future) our only other criticism was the tiny doorways inside the van. We are not the largest by any means but came home with bruises where we had to squeeze through them. Hopefully a bigger mobile home will solve this issue.

Will definitely stay there again or use similar for a future holiday!

We have had numerous lovely holidays at Castell Montgri so once again booked 10 days with Lifestyle commencing 2nd September, we flew into Girona with Ryan Air from Luton with no problems at all, picked up our hire car and arrived at site around 11.00am, booked in a Main Reception then on to Lifestyle where we were taken straight up to our caravan which was a Ruby 3 Bed on pitch Or 13 which is not too far from Panorama etc.
We noticed on our way up the park (As expected) to be very clean and landscaped well and constantly being tended to by the onsite maintenance personnel.
Our caravan was found to be very clean & tidy and we duly paid the 80 Euro deposit required on taking possession of your accommodation.

We missed last year and had a bit of catching up to do so on having a nosey around we found the main differences were:

1) The Park as a whole as had a bit of a re-branding and has adopted a sort of environmental/ecological theme (The bus to the beach has a meadowland roof for one!!) but not too over the top or in your face, just advising about re-cycling etc. (Which they always did anyhow!!) And tips for wild life within the Park etc. They have also open a bit of a Pet Farm with Ponies, Geese, Guinea Pigs, Rabbits etc. which offer pony rides at evening times at the bottom of Panorama.

2) At Panorama there is no longer a waited restaurant type area for food, this has been supeceded by a new take away area which serves Pizza, Burgers and the like, they have also created a new games room where the old take away servery used to be with arcade games, pool table and air hockey etc.

3) At L Ombra they have had a bit of a move round with a new Ice Cream/Sweet area squeezed in.

That’s all we noticed really and didn’t have any particular criticism with any of the new arrangements.

For us this was the first time we had been without our kids (They think they are all too old now!!) and took our 4 year old Grand Daughter, who has been twice before but we thought this would definitely be the first she would remember. Well, she had an absolutely fantastic time, between the Parks, Ponies and Pools she loved every minute of it. She was particularly fond of the ponies so much so she would drag us to the farm to feed them during the day, then get back at 5 o clock so we could walk the ponies over to Panorama and even help groom them before they were ready for rides!! Although it certainly knackered us it kept a smile on her face so we were pretty pleased with that.

We never really went out at the night-time on the park as little one was usually tucked up by 8 o clock, but we bit hear from our neighbours that although they had enjoyed themselves their experience had been soured by an i phone being stolen with the finger of suspicion being pointed at a member of staff, apparently the said phone had been left on an un-attended chair, the chair had then been stacked with others as it was the end of the night, they returned to their seats and the phone had gone. Now, I am not for one minute condoning the taking of someone else’s personnel belonging’s and I was very sympathetic to the individual, just because they are laid out un-guarded in front of you doesn’t give someone the right to take it, however, there does come a point whereby you have got to take responsibility for your belongings, there is no way I would leave anything of value in an UK pub/club type establishment un-guarded and still expect it to be there after I had returned. For the record, this is the first instance of theft we have ever come across at the park, I’m sure it must happen as in any big gathering of people you are always going to get the un-desirables, but it has certainly never happened to us, simple rule really, if you value it, secure it.

Travelling into to Estartit we were a bit disappointed, our favourite family bar, Clancy’s had closed down which left us a bit crest fallen, but, hey ho, these things happen so we thought we would pop to The Barracuda Bar to try them only to find they had gone too, not a good sign.
Although no stranger to the local owned restaurants we do like to get into a “British Pub” type atmosphere and if they serve food all the better, in our view the best 2 places in Estartit had sadly gone. On the good side there are still a few venues, Fighting Cocks for drinks only and YC’s Sports Bar for drinks and footie etc. Toni’s Bar for food and drinks which was ok but nothing to write home about, Harvey’s for American/Tex Mex food, lovely Burgers etc. but quite a limited menu, O Malleys opposite the marina which has a good selection but we felt a bit pricey.

We also noticed the town had taken a bit of a hit, even more businesses and apartments etc. for sale but still, in my opinion, at mad prices. i.e. Toni’s Bar on the market for 700k Euros, who the hell in the right mind is going to outlay that amount on that type of property (Apartments and Restaurant/Bar) in a contracting market and in a resort that has certainly seen better days, we’ll have to see….On a good note, the building sites that seemed to be on Santa Susannah for an eternity have now been more or less complete and there are shops and apartments to let which is a good sign I suppose.

Out and about there is still plenty to do with water parks, Marineland etc., LOADS of culture and history if that’s your bag , we chose Marineland at Pallafolls as it has the best of both worlds, water slides and dolpin shows etc. which kept our Grand Daughter content for the whole day which is no mean feat may I add!!

In summary, although we have always enjoyed our time over the years at Castell Montgri and would highly recommend the Park to anyone that asks we felt the resort has seen better days, Estartit still is a lovely place, the beach is to die for and I do appreciate times are very difficult for most of the EU particularly Spain but I feel that may be our last trip to Estartit for a while, we are planning to go further South 2013 to one of the bigger resorts.

We spent a week here from 28th August 2012 with Lifestyles, who were very helpful. There was an 80 euro deposit that had to be paid on arrival however this was returned on day of departure to cover any breakages etc.

Our party had a few chalets (caravans really!) which were quite small and basic (but clean) yet like another reviewer mentioned - one did have a problem with ant infestation which was a bit of a pain, especially when this was in the kids bedroom.

The site itself is very large and a lot of walking is required to go to the various places on site, ie shop, bar, reception etc as they are all so far apart from each other.
There is a Lidl outside of the camp which is very reasonable and the supermarket on site is OK too.

The one problem we had was poor weather for the full week (which was obviously outside of anyones control!!) but if it wasnt raining - it was extremely windy which caused a problem - as so many of the activities here are set up / reliant on the good weather (of which we missed out on)!!

I would say that this is a good family destination but if you have difficulties with your mobility, probably not the best choice given how much walking is required (uphill) to get to your accomodation.

L'estartit itself is aprox 20 minute walk away (from reception - reception to your accomodation could take ten to fifteen minutes if you are with kids!) and is well worth a visit - lots of restraurants at the marina with plenty of choice.

Would I go back - perhaps - if you could guarantee the sunshine - but I could personally take it or leave it as a holiday destination.

On a separate note - we got a taxi from / to the airport which costs 80 euros each way and these can be picked up outside of the main terminal - there is a price list on the taxi rank indicating the prices for each destination - so check this and agree price before you get in so you arent ripped off!!!

Room Tip: See that the ant problem has been resolved before you book for next year!

Just got back and thoroughly enjoyed it again! The site is fantastic with lovely views, great pools and brilliant entertainment which is very well thought out to ensure there is something going on for all ages! The kids film at 8pm is a brilliant way to finish the day with your children but elsewhere on site there will be other things for different ages.

The weather was was consistently hot and found restart it beach to be very good! We hired a car and so ventured to other local beaches but found estartit to be the best.

As mentioned the shop is quite expensive but you can stock up on most things at Lidle and then use the on site shop for fresh bread In the morning (which is fantastic) and for one off supplies.

Definitey recommend this site if you enjoy camping.. I havnt seen anything better yet and WILL return at some point!

I've just got back from castell montgri and i have no bad words to say except why did i have to come home? Everything was amazing, la bassa pool was lovely for a late night swim and the live music was great. the panorama pool was much more for teenagers but mine had a great time and haven't stopped taking about returning in the future.

Ignore all the bad review, some people obviously don't realise that on holiday you have to relax, yes there is noise. there is noise in England. people are having FUN and i never heard any noise after the midnight silence had started.

drinks a little pricey at bar but lidl is just a short walk to the right of the entrance and they sell very cheap alcohol. reps were great and always there to help as well as reception /bar staff and life guards who were always kind and talkative.

We drove down but the people next to us flew into girona and said the bus from girona centre stopped right outside the campsite and only took 1 hour so next year i think ill do that. driving was very hard and tiring.

If i could go back now i would be on the next flight out.

A very average site.
we went with Lifestyle who were very helpful but we had to pay 80 euro as a deposit on our caravan which we did not expect and didnt get it back till the day we left so no time to spend it!
our caravan was riddled with ants and when we told them they just told us to buy some bug spray from the supermarket.

food below average
extra costs - sun loungers, internet, golf, game zone - how many euro's did we give the kids to spend in there!!!!!!!

pools were good for the kids as was the cinema (although films dont start till 8pm so a late night for young ones) best pool was la bassa.

need a car or bike if you want to get about, we went to Girona which was lovely. beach was a good walk away as was the town.

dont expect too much and you'll be fine!
