We stayed at the Hotel Tirol, a basic 2 star which was adequate. Plenty free parking on both sides of the hotel. Free wifi which only worked on the ground floor, despite several attempts by the owner to get it to work upstairs.
We had seen a rate on booking.com for 55 euros per night but were told that the room was 60 a night. When we mentioned the price on Booking they gave us the room for the same price. The first room offered smelt of old cigarettes so we were offered a better room with mountain views (room 206). This was warm, clean and fabulous views. No hairdryer so we asked at reception. They had 4 to loan out, so we were told we had to collect it as needed, but when we asked the owner later she just let us take one. It would be a small investment for them to buy enough for each room and charge a deposit on them.
The breakfast was good with a reasonable selection of breads, pastries, hams, cream cheese, jams etc. toast, juice and coffee. There was a lounge with tv, pool and games room and a nice bar area with reasonably priced drinks.
The staff and owners were friendly and helpful, giving some good advice about the resort.
Prior to arriving we had read reviews about the hotel and one of them mentioned the owner smoking a cigar in the hotel and a dog and cat roaming around. When I checked in I mentioned this to the receptionist, particularly as it is illegal to smoke in the public areas. During our stay we did not see him or any one else smoking inside. However, there was a large dog let loose which kept pestering customers, sniffing at them and jumping up at the doors etc. the door to the kitchen from the dining area and through the bar had swing hinges, so the dog and cat wandered into the kitchen at free will. At breakfast the cat sat on the dining room chairs, and at one point a family entered who were clearly frightened of cats. I lifted the cat off the chair and put it out of the room. This is not hygienic or appropriate for a hotel. When the dog was shut in the family area it barked for attention.
It's definitely a basic, no frills hotel and you get what you pay for. Apart from the animal situation, the hotel was value for money and the location ideal, just a few steps from the ski bus and the bars and restaurants. We would only stay there again if the animals were not in the public areas at all. Other improvements needed are hairdryers in the rooms and radiators that can be thermostatically controlled in the room.
