Islantilla Golf Resort Hotel
Ranked #3 of 8 Hotels in Islantilla
Reviewed January 25, 2011

Wife and I went on 4 day golf trip early Jan, three courses 9 holes each, the blue course was closed due to repairs - wasn’t a big issue as it was the hardest course and we are beginners. The yellow course was perfect, green course holes 4,5,6,7 were water logged due to drainage, not great but usable nonetheless.

Food was above average for a buffet restaurant and very safe to eat indeed (I say that as there are too many buffet bad-tum stories).

Massive bedrooms, but you could hear people next door coming back late (we slept early on day one due to a very early start from London !! ) and playing “have I told you recently that I love you… made me smile”. Don’t worry the type of people who go to this place seem to be mature and prob will not make that much noise. TV volume is limited. I am not sure why I have spent so much time discussing noise, anyway lets move on …

Spa pool had crazy rules… we had free tickets for sauna, guess what we had to book the sauna – you can’t walk in. When we got there at our allocated time we were told the sauna was broken and we could use the steam room instead – that is what we asked for !! lost in translation. The Saunas are tiled in white, high ceilings like some Victorian hospital, makes you want to commit suicide, come on guys rest of the hotel is so nice. Just do the sauna’s up, bring the ceilings down a little, put some mood LEDs in there make it free for all… Onto the pool, indoor pool freezing, Jacuzzi warm.

We drove from Faro airport, car is required for general shopping etc – unless you are only doing golf. Made a trip to Saville, its another Spanish city, rip-off tapas, I can make better… That annoyed me. Sorry I prefer Barcelona for the whole Spanish Metro experience.

Nearby shooping area on the beach is quite boring and badly laid out and have a downmarket feel - the city planners needs to be shot as they missed out making the place a gem.

Staff were very helpful.

Conclusion.

Location is OK but not fabulous for night time activity, Hotel is dead during the day and you have to use the Golf Shack restaurant for food/drinks. Beach nearby, obviously it was dead during Jan, but I can see it packed in the summer.

Recommended for golfers (beginners sort your hooks and slices before you come as you will hit the apartments laid out on sides of the green), don’t bring non golfers here they will go mad if they are not the type to sit down and read books and do meditation.

Hope to make another trip this year.

excellent hotel, with easy access to golf. In these more noticably tough times attracting tourists, Staff are plainly trying their very best to make your stay enjoyable. we thought the food, which is the more modern buffet style where the meat/breakfast etc is cooked in front of you fresh, was superb for a large hotel. felt very much a restaurant experience you would expect from a top hotel and not canteen like you may associate with a two or three star. Spa facilities were very good though towels costing extra felt a bit mean. Absolutely perfect position for the golf course and club house, just roll out of the comfy beds, stroll out the car park and you are there. golf course very fair for range of handicappers. overall a great experience and unbeleivable value for money-quite a spanish area so do try some spanish words-its great fun. not an awful lot to do or see outside the golf though. Faro airport about an hours easy drive but stick to main route-dont try and be clever and take shorts cuts as we did-easy to get lost

Our friends work in education, so this half term break was booked. We all play golf and booked 7 nights accomodation with 5 rounds of golf. The breakfast + evening meal package was briliant. The variety of food in the morning was superb, from cold meat and fish cuts (many Danish and Dutch visitors) to English bacon, bean, egg and aven black pudding!. The evening buffet was equally impressive, with loads of choice. Every night there were at least 3 meat cuts and a couple of fish choices, that were cooked in front of you, with no limit on the number of pieces you could have. I feasted on crab, mussels, salmon starter, then moved onto griddled pork loin, with excellent veg.

The staff were not only friendly, but offered interaction and humour, helping with wine choices, that were not overpriced.

The golf courses.3 9's I would grade hard, medium and easy, but the combinations made for very interesting games. I would have left a little deeper grass on a couple of holes that were very difficult to kepp the ball on due to acute slopes! The greens were true and challenging to put on.

The golf clubhouse and superb practise bground are no more than 100m from the hotel, so no time wasted from breakfast to playing. The only criticism was that the golf club kitcehn stopped serving at 18:00 on Saturday, the day we were leaving, even though the menu stated 20:00 was closing time. The food was simple but good quality in this spikes bar, with inexpensive rates for beer and wine.

Ideal for golfers and those that can make their own entertainment (we are avid card players after dinner, but I suspect too quiet for many, especially groups of male club golfers.

We stayed at the hotel for one week and played 5 rounds of golf at the hotel course.
Both the staff at the golf club and the hotel had very good customer service skills...a smile from all of the staff.
The hotel restaurant was a delight. Chef cooked a specific fish/meat dish personally for you and the choice was very extensive.
Trip to the beach by the hotel mini train took 5 minutes and dropped us at the hotel beach club. The service was just as excellent. The best beaches you will find anywhere in Europe are to be found in Islantilla...best kept secret !

Nice hotel, friendly and efficient staff. Located beside a decent 27 hole course so very handy for golf.
Very good buffet at breakfast and dinner.
But...Islantilla is very quiet, especially outside the summer peak season and there's nothing much to do if you don't play golf.

It was a very good experience in the hotel, even in August where the other islantilla beach hotels were crowded and in a very confusion situation. This hotel is in the golf course about 1km from the beach but it was not a problem. It offers a free ride in a small train to the beach where the hotel has a beach club with bar, pool and restaurant. So, in sense we were in the beach also. I am a golf player and it was nice to play 9 holes in the early morning and arrive at my room about 10.30h and go with the family to the beach after. The buffet for breakfast and dinner was also very good. A pleaseant experience to repeat next year!

I have just had two weeks at Islantilla at it was great. The hotel is clean, staff friendly, good facilities, excellent outdoor pools, good golf (although tight courses). The only criticism I would have is the food. It is buffet food that for breakfast is fine however the evening meal buffet was acceptable. Most of the veg were overcooked just through being on the bain marie so long. You could go across the road to the golf club restaurant however this was extra and not included in the half board rate. Food at the pool bar was great but only for lunch as was the beach bar.
I will certainly return next year as I am not too fussy about the food. Sleep was hard to come by on the nights that Spain won their matches in the World Cup, due to the locals car horns. I was back home for the final.
