Booked La Puerta Ancha for our 30th anniversary meal whilst on holiday in Isla Canela a short 10 minute taxi ride away (9 euros).
We enjoyed our meal so much we returned a week later to have lunch which was every bit as good.
To start we had a glass of the cava with the real gold shavings, lovely for a special occassion, followed by the chicken liver mousse infused with sherry. This was so good that I had a double portion on my return visit. We then had steak on the stone, steak that you cook yourself on a stone heated to 360 degrees. The quality of this steak was superb and it was true melt in the mouth stuff, this is accompanied with potato wedges.
We had a jug of sangria, a round of drinks and then it got interesting because the whole areas lights went out. Well as you can imagine there were candles everywhere so for a trip to the loo you took your candle. It was a great atmosphere for the diners (especially those who had eaten) as everyone started chatting away merrilly, although we felt sorry for the owner who lost custom and had to tot the bills up manually which was done with grace. For us it just added to the experience for our anniversary. If I return to the Ayamonte area I will be making a beeline for this restaurant - in winter it closes on a Wednesday.
