Booked 2 room for family. Standard rooms are small but the bathroom is spacious. Both rooms with bigbalcony that is a plus. On the back there is 2 swimming pools (outside) and inside you have 1 pool and one big jacuzi. The inside pool for me is dangerous because the floor is all black and there is no lights inside the pool so is dangerous because for example if you want to climb the stairs to move out you dont know where is it and you can hurt your foot. Also the inside pool have the same depth so is bad for kids because is to deep for them. The plus is the breakfast and the view over the Minho River and directly view to Spanish Santa Tecla mountain. The breakfast is good with a lot of options. Free parking outside.

We were a family of three, one of which a 6 years-old grandson and stayed for five nights at Porta do Sol hotel, dinners included. The hotel is indeed nice with superb upkeep, comfortable lounges, spacious rooms, friendly personnel and a very good buffet dinner and breakfast. The restaurant has a breath-taking view over the mouth of the Minho river. I strongly recommend a meal there, even if you do not stay at the hotel.

The swimming pool area is also very nice, protected from the northern wind by the hotel and with a nice view to the mountain (and admittedly, to the railway line, which is not as nice, especially if you do not enjoy the trains' noise). Particularly noteworthy, however, is the interior swimming pool and spa, probably the best I have attended in a 4 stars hotel.

All in all, highly recommended!

Carlos A. Bernardo

Room tip: If you like a fantastic view choose a room in the river side

We booked this hotel for the artbeerfest and it was great, 10 min walking to the festival, very comfy room and great breakfast.

We only stayed on Friday and on Saturday they let us use the pool the whole afternoon and took a shower after on the spa.
Very nice hotel for a relaxing weekend

We didn't stay at the hotel (we stayed in Castelo) but we wanted a spa treatment during our stay. We managed to book a couples massage with a few days notice given as non residents.

We asked for the full body massage and it was very enjoyable in the same room.

The price was a dream to so book ahead.

The hotel itself appeared clean and the pool area looked very appealing. If you stay and you are going to eat out its a decent walk into Carminha centre but hire some bikes (7 euros a day) and explore the area its fab.

I can't praise this hotel highly enough. Everything was perfect for us, the location, nice walks in the area, not far to walk to centre and public transport links.
The room was lovely, comfortable bed, great shower and nice towels, wonderful balcony, great soundproofing and a extra connecting door between the bedroom and hallway meant no sounds from corridor to disturb us.
The housekeeping staff were brilliant and the room spotless, reception staff friendly and efficient. The spa was a real treat, free use of sauna, steam room and aqua massage nice clean showers and changing room and not many customers during daytime.
Breakfast had a good choice of hot and cold buffet lots of fresh fruit and four coffee machines! Lovely to sit at a table by the window and watch life on the river front whilst eating and enjoying an extra brew.
I have stayed in lots of hotels all over the world and I have to say that this four day stay is now in my top ten favourite experiences. Thanks Porta do Sol for a special holiday.

Room tip: Our room on third floor overlooking pool was perfect
