“Good hotel, good location, BUT customer service needs a bit of work”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

Stayed at Marco Polo hotel in May for a family vacation. Beware of a city tax that you will have to pay per person at the end of check in!

Positives: Clean room, good size for three of us, wifi free for 1 hour then 5 euros for 24 hours with ok speed, breakfast available for 6 euros per person (there isn't much to eat around so this is a good choice)

negatives: We got a room on the first floor and right behind it was the hotel's parking lot which could get loud from time to time. Our bathroom didn't have any protection except for a curtain that was almost falling so when taking a shower the whole floor would get wet. Beds were ok, and some of our pillows had some slight stains. Luckly, we brought our own pillow cases :)

My biggest complain would be customer service. The young lady who checked us in spoke some basic english and the other gentleman spoke better english, however there were still some communication gaps. Both of them were very dry and didn't seem too happy about answering our questions. A smile would be everything I would ask for. After my trip in Venice, I travel to Rome and Paris and both of those hotels gave us a much better warm welcome than the one we received at the Marco Polo Hotel. We felt at home with the super friendly welcome we had other hotels compared to this one.

If you are not familiar with the bus system (like me) you will have a hard time trying the bus stop for the hotel. If you are coming from Piazzale Roma you can take Bus 5 or Bus 19. You are supposed to get out at Campalto or Via Orlanda however, there is more than one stop within those areas so watch out so you don't get lost. Should take 20 minutes the most. Buy a 3 day pass to get unlimited bus and vaporeto transportation in venice, it is worth it!

Overall we felt comfortable in the room, but our stay would have been perfect if the staff showed a bit more of caring and shared a nice honest smile.

This hotel is great if you want to stay near the airport and take the bus & water taxi to the centre of Venice. Free wifi is limited to an hour per day, but that's ok because I don't need any more than that. The bus stop is just outside - number 19 takes you to Venice and you just get a water taxi to the part of Venice you need. Only negative about this hotel is the taxi they arranged for me when I went home - 6 minute trip to the airport cost me 30 Euros which is ridiculous, the taxi guy added a good 15 Euros and I'm not sure why, but at that point I wasn't prepared to argue and just wanted to start heading home. Oh, and I noticed the hotel room bin in the bathroom was not emptied when I checked in, but I let that slide.

We travel frequently and hotels booked online can be hit or miss. Well we got a great deal at the Marco Polo Hotel near Venice.

Pros:
Free parking
Right on the bus 19 route to Venice
Great price
Wonderful and helpful staff.
Very good breakfast included in price
Great local restaurants in the area that are not "Tourist Traps"
Nice neighborhood to walk

Cons:
Boat ride plus bus ride to Venice is about 45 minutes total commute. If you are not staying directly in Venice, this hotel is your best options
A bit hard to find because of construction taking place on the main highway
Bed was a bit uncomfortable
PS: Neither of these 3 cons are actually all that bad

I stayed at this hotel for the second time and my impression is even better than after my first stay 4 years ago. The hotel is simple, but clean with extremely helpful and friendly staff, or maybe I should say Allessandro, as he seemed to spend 24/7 there. The hotel is convenienly located, with good restaurants nearby and easy access to Venice by bus. It offers free car park. There are always the same products for breakfast, but the choice is not bad, especially if you take into account that you are in Italy, where people do not eat too much for breakfast. If you need a good hotel in the neigbourhood of Venice and not to spend tto much money on that, you should take this hotel into consideration.

Me & my Wife stayed a night here as a part of our layover plan. To keep things easy, we'll do the review in point form:

PROS
1) Hotel is very near to the Marco Polo Airport (About 10 minutes away and costed us 30 Euros)
2) Hotel is surrounded by a few simple Italian eateries and gellato shops
3) Venice is easily accessible via public bus just beside the hotel (bus number 19 - 1.30 Euros one way). Bus stops at Piazzale Roma where we took Vaperato (public water bus number 1 or number 2) into Venice
4) Hotel room is simple but clean
5) Check in was a breeze. The receptionist was very very helpful and speaks considerably good english. He helped us with directions on how to take busses into Venice as well
6) Breakfast was only 6.00 Euros per person and they serve basic Italian breakfast

CONS
1) Shower cubicle was extremely small and tight (around 2.5 feet by 2,5 feet)

OVERALL
We had a good comfortable experience throughout and will definitely stay here again for our next trip!

We choose to stay at hotel Marco polo because we had an early flight the next morning from the Marco Polo airport.
When we first saw the pink walls of the hotel, we expected the worst.
But the welcome at the reception was, although a bit shy, very nice and helpful.
The rooms are of good taste ,small but comfortable for a one night stay. Breakfast is basic, but ok.
The airport shuttle is with a supplement (20euro for one way) , but the car can only take 4 persons+ luggage at once. The rest of our group went by bus. The busstop is around the corner (1.10euro pp to buy in advance in the nearby newspaper shop) and in 10 minutes u're at the airport.
In the neighboorhood there's one pizzeria (good pizza's- disgusting wine) and one trattoria.
The hotel is an ideal solution for the last nigt before a flight back home.Comfortable and at a reasonable price. But of course u shouldn't expect anything from the neigbourhood.

Room Tip: for the big families : there's a room for 4 persons with 2 bathrooms

If you want to stay at a reasonable price and have easy access to visit Venice, this is definitely the place. Do not expect luxury, safe in the room, mini bar or room service, large room or large bathroom - you get what you paid for, and for us, the hotel was what we expected to be. The room was actually good and the bathroom was of a reasonable size. All very clean. The bed was rather narrow. Getting ice was a bit of an adventure as it usually is in Europe, where they cannot understand why Americans use ice in their water. The breakfast was excellent in a small, but elegant and decorated in good taste restaurant. Free internet. Free parking. Alessandro, the manager, was extremely helpful with directions. The bus station to Venice is just around the corner. It was a good, quiet place to rest after visiting Venice.
