There are two noxious moments at middle class dinner parties: The first, which is irredeemable in its awfulness, is when gloating parents give you the seemingly endless inventory of their offsprings achievements. The second is when, having paralysed you with the first, they regale you with tales of the rustic Umbrian restaurant they just happened to stumble on last summer, whilst on vacation with the aforementioned Ethan and Amelia, that had an idyllic location, fantastic service and amazing original food at peasant prices,- (all of course individually sourced from local producers). Like a bad Marks and Spencers advert played at 33rpm rather than 45. "What nauseous tosh!", you say to yourself as you lament the end of the cheap sauvignon you were seconds before berating in its awfulness as its anaesthetic qualities alone suddenly justify its place in your glass. Such things never happen and these odious oiks just make this stuff up because after they've paid the school fees they can't actually afford to eat out at all. It's all a middle class myth you say: Till It Happens To You. Rossa Di Sera. From the front it looks like a trucker's cafe. Enter therein and your hopes are raised, until you are beckoned towards the rear, a simple white "boat room" feeling dining room overlooking the magnificent Lake Trasimene and, most importantly, facing west to capture the best sunsets you will ever see. But enough of what turn out to be mere trivialities, because even the magnificent setting of this lovely unfussy room, that has an almost colonial feel about it, is utterly upstaged by the food. First: the menu is small and bespoke. It's clearly all fresh and it's all completely original. All of the dishes I had were recipes I had never seen before; right out of the ether. Secondly, the execution matches the ideas. It looks interesting on the menu; it tastes sensational on the plate. And the service is excellent. Our waiter could explain all the courses and their ingredients in English, (to our shame, our Italian was not up to it), and despite the restaurant being busy, the standard of friendly attentiveness did not drop. And the wine..... Oh god. The most expensive bottle was only 24 Euros. We had a local Umbrian white that was as good as ANYTHING I have ever tasted for 17 Euros, and with my beef course I asked for a glass of something special and local and was given a merlot, (normally too bland for me), that knocked my socks off and made me realise that the Italians have a lot to teach their Latin cousins about what can be done with this grape. This is five star bespoke fare in its conception, execution and delivery in what from the outside looks like a cafe. Oh: and to complete the middle class dirge; the bill. For five people, with two bottles, beer and my large glass of life changing red with dessert and coffee: 140 Euros. I had to ask them to check the bill. Euro for Euro, pound for pound, dollar for dollar; the best restaurant I have ever eaten in. These middle class twits. You think they're making it up. Till it happens to you........

What a little gem ! Right on the shore of lake Trasineno with fantastic view over the lake. My burrata ravioli with Aubergine were totally delicious ! If you are in the area you should take the time and visit this lovely restaurant !

Simple roadside trattoria ("osteria di strada") in a stunning location right on the lakeside. Find it just on the lefthand side of the road coming out of San Feliciano towards Monte de Lago but look carefully because it is easy to miss. There is ample parking behind. Sit on a raised outside covered veranda, and if possible go on a summer's evening when the view of the sun setting over the lake is extraordinary . The food: a remarkable kitchen. A really interesting menu, not long but creative, with fish (of course), meat and vegetarian options. The cooking was excellent, delicate, light pasta, interesting meats, and a really interesting wine list. And we paid just 55 Euros for two including dessert, coffee and a very decent bottle of wine (at an excellent price). Service was excellent (mother and daughter out front, father in the kitchen I think). A real find.

This place looks unassuming from the outside but dont be put off it has a lovely interior has a super covered raised terrace at the rear which is on the edge of Lago Trasimeno where (unlike the other restaurants in San Felciciano) you feel connected to the outside and can actually see the sunset properly .

We have stayed two years running in San Feliciano. Last year the food in this restaurant was just above average but this year it has definitely upped its game in all departments not just the food.

The menu is short, creative (giving slight twists to familiar dishes) and it changes - in my experience this is a good sign and it is not trying to be 'touristy' all things to all men (and women). As a result the food is simple, very well cooked and tastes wonderful.

The furnishing, décor and lighting give the place a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are very helpful, all young, imaginative, energetic, attentive and good humoured. As a result it makes this place different to almost all other restaurants we have been to in the area. Definitely worth a visit.

My only bit of advice is get there early in the evening. Once it gets busy the staff get stretched and service starts to wobble - but that would be my only black mark but one that is easily resolved by getting another waiter.

We must have passed this ristorante at least 50 times and assumed it was a bar! However having read a really good review we decided to try it.Definitely a good decision, this is a lovely, cosy venue with very friendly staff and very tasty food. There is a good selection of "bar snacks" including homemade burgers and arancini (stuffed riceballs),in addition to their restaurant menu which was very imaginative. The night we were there we were virtually the only non locals, always a good sign.Rather quirky decor with a further room at the rear overlooking the lake which would be used later in the season. We can thoroughly recommend this osteria.
