“Worth a detour”
Reviewed May 18, 2014

This restaurant was recommended by the owner of the house in Montisi that we had rented so we tried it for lunch one day. Not many people eating and not warm enough to sit out but we had a lovely meal nevertheless. The duck in porchetta with roast potatoes and rosemary was particularly memorable, although we thought that breaded lamb cutlets with deep-fried artichokes was perhaps too much flour for one dish. Delicious local rose wine (unusual to find rose in this area).

“Wonderful Find in a Small Off-the-Grid Village”
Reviewed May 15, 2014

Wonderful ambiance under the stars. Excellent food. Reasonable prices. Worth a drive if you happen to be staying nearby. The view from the terrace is nice but nothing special. However, near the entrance to the restaurant is a much better view - long range and looking towards the sunset.

“One Visit is Not Enough”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

While a bit out of the way the drive there and back through the rolling hills was worth the trip even if there weren't lunch/dinner at the other end. On a sunny April day we found Conte Matto for lunch and while it was too cool to enjoy the beautiful terrace we did enjoy a wonderful lunch in the restaurant. Our lunch was excellent and the price was reasonable. In fact lunch was so good that we returned two days later for dinner. While lunch was excellent, dinner was exquisite. Foragers had just been to the restaurant and we were treated to dishes with wild asparagus, truffles etc. The dinner was so amazingly good that I have marked it on my list of places to re-visit the next time I am in Italy. Hurray for excellent food, great service, reasonable prices and perfect cleanliness.

“Wine and cheese and another wine”

Super friendly staff were patient with my butchered Italian. If the weather is good, sit outside for lunch to experience an incredible view.
