“Very good hotel”
Reviewed October 18, 2011

We have just returned from a weeks holiday staying at the hotel. The hotel was very clean and is set in lovely countryside. The breakfast is basic but reasonably priced at 5 euros. Just watch out for the buses as they are not always on time!!!

Although this place is a bit off the beaten path, we really liked it once there. You can take a bus, or cab. the lastbus from the city is 7, so dont miss it! The staff was very helpful, and nice. our room was quiet and clean. The restaurant is also good, though you must have a credit card with the chip, or cash. Nice place, pool and even though we missed them, the sunflower feilds across the way looked like they were amazing.

This place is rated 3 stars at the main hotel desk inside Pisa Airport showing a very beautiful picture of the main structure with its swimming pool. They asked 100 Euros per day without even breakfast included. The room had 1 king size bed and other 2 single ones and enough space for the price asked, however the cleanness was not at a 3 stars level expectation, no soap available in the shower which was delimited from the rest of the bathroom by a broken courtain. Breakfast has been offered at 5 Euros per person and served in an external veranda with ants "walking" on the floor and a very poor selection: ONLY 2 slices of ham and ONLY 2 slices of cheese, ONLY one hot beverage included (if you want 2 cappuccinos you have to pay the second one), milk available and cereals included in the price. On the other hand the personnel is very kind and always available for advices. The internet connection is fast and all rooms are WI-FI. The pool is enjoyable even though a better maintenance could avoid the presence of weeds on the bottom. Overall an average staying which steps down to poor in front of the 'too' expensive price asked. I believe that 60 Euros per night could be a fair compromise. The restaurant next to the Hotel is absolutely a MUST: tuscan cousine served in a family business ambient with excellent smily people very friendly. A whole meal for 20 Euro!!! Try it.

Spent 3 nights here, the wonderfully helpful reception staff had all the answers, bus timetables recommended day outings, even suggested a suitable jogging circuit.
This hotel isn't as remote as it would first appear as the main Pisa/Lucca bus routes stop outside the hotel although the buses didn't run long enough into the evening.
Try the restaurant, as the staff there are real characters.
If you are returning after dark take a torch as the lane from the bus stop to the hotel is unlit.

We stayed for three days in this quaint, couples- and family-oriented hotel. The setting is secluded and romantic, fully in the countryside, yet the grand landmarks of Pisa's Piazza dei Miracoli are at unbelievably short distance (3 km). A few km north is also another interesting destination, the ancient spa of San Giuliano Terme.
The room was old style, furnished with period pieces, and roomy enough; the bathroom was fully renovated.
The staff was courteous, efficient, and helpful.
Breakfast (optional) was rather un-descriptive.
I think the value was very good, perhaps because it was off-season (but is there an off-season in Pisa!?)

The only caveat is that getting there may be challenging the first time. After meandering across the countryside just behind Pisa, you need to enter a dirt road / country lane - in between to canals - detaching from a bend of the main road and doing various sharp turns in the fields!! Better to arrive with sunlight and have a printed close-up map of the destination, or you may end desperately lost even with a navigation system. And the signs are insufficient and confusing.

The hotel is situated in the countryside, which is perfect if you want to escape the touristy centre of Pisa. It is only a 6 minute bus ride into town although the bus stop is on a busy road. The double room I stayed in was perfectly appointed with a large and very comfortable bed, air conditioning, good windows with shutters that black out the light at night, decent tv with a range of Sky channels (not films) and a perfectly clean and spacious shower room (no bath). The best thing about the hotel is the staff who are very friendly and helpful. I chose the hotel for its swimming pool which is set in a lovely garden with good views of the distant mountains. In fact the grounds are very pleasant indeed with lots of trees and flowering shrubs.

The breakfast is not included in the price of the room and it is limited to one small roll, one large pastry, two thin slices of cheese and two thin slices of ham, a packet of melba toast and one hot drink for 5 Euros. There is also fruit juice and cereal but if you are looking for a choice of breakfast items you may be disappointed. You also have to book and pay for your breakfast the night before. There is no food available during the day except toasted sandwiches or bar snacks such as crisps, biscuits or ice cream, which is a shame if you are planning to stay in the hotel all day. There are no shops nearby except for a supermarket which is about two miles away - not an option if you do not have a car as there is no pavement along the busy road. The restaurant on site is not run by the hotel and does not open until 1930. The staff are not as friendly as those in the hotel. The food is simple and rustic but the prices are average restaurant prices, so better deals can be found in Pisa. If you do not want to go into town and do not want to dine at the restaurant, you can order a pizza which will be delivered within 30 minutes.

If you do not have a car to get around the hotel feels a little bit remote. I believe you can hire a car quite reasonably from the hotel though. I used the bus to get into town, which is fine if you have bus tickets but you cannot buy them at the hotel. (You cannot buy tickets on the bus either and it seems as though there are only a few places in Pisa where you can purchase 'Vaibus Lazzi' tickets - one bar on Via Cammeo behind the Piazza dei Miracoli is one such place. Very frustrating. They are NOT widely available at Tabachi shops. Beware also of the changes in bus timetables on Sundays and public holidays.) The hotel is only a 10-15 minute drive to the airport, which is great. The hotel offers a shuttle service although it cost me 20 Euros to be picked up and 15 Euros to be driven back, which is a bit expensive for one person. As a pregnant lady, I didn't mind paying these extras for the luxury of door-to-door service.

Overall, it is a perfectly pleasant hotel with lots of good features if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: Rm 21 is quiet, ground floor and overlooks orchard

Following TripAdvisor advice, I looked for lodging outside of Pisa and found what I thought was an airport hotel; certainly, the price of 55 euros suggested a 2-star accommodation. Terrific surprise! Airone is a pleasant, small country hotel and restaurant only 10 minutes from Pisa by bus. The room was large; the staff was very helpful; the welcoming common places led to a conversation with an Army couple stationed in Germany that moved on to dinner in the perfectly acceptable restaurant. During the day we took the bus into Pisa and wore ourselves out exploring. Breakfast was a decent spread of ham and meat, cheese, rolls, and cereals.

Room Tip: I liked our room in the main building.
