“Grand hotel within a short train ride of Pisa”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2014

This hotel cannot be faulted for what it is - a grand hotel in a small town near Pisa, with a spa and a fantastic dining room. But we found it soulless, partly because of its sheer size and partly because it has no garden. There is space to lie on sunloungers but only on terraces next to the monstrous building. I cannot comment on the spa (waste of space for me) but the food was of top quality, and so much of it that after three days I ended up eating sorbets for pudding - what a waste ! The hotel is within ten minutes' walk of the local railway station, from where you can catch a train every 30 minutes either to Pisa or, in the other direction, to the lovely walled town of Lucca. BEWARE - you need to buy your ticket before getting on the train (you can buy them from the hotel reception) AND you need to validate it by sticking it into a machine on the station platform before boarding the train. And on the way back, the machine is not on the same platform as the train leaves from. The conductor is relatively kind to English tourists apparently. Once in Pisa, you are within ten minutes' walk of the Tower and the Duomo but there are NO SIGNS from the station to tell you which direction to walk. Staggering carelessness, or worse, on the part of the authorities. Take a map or a smartphone with you.

A total immersion into Tuscany and its history. Some rooms have even mural paintings on the wall...

Calm, peaceful and relaxing place, welcoming, thoughtful service

The location is good to visit the area of Pisa and Lucca. Though, it is far away from Sienna.

Loved this classic hotel with real spa water pool. So elegant and grand. The roof top pool really made it. The suite we had was stunning, classic marble floors and the most comfortable bed, slightly overpriced.

Big clean and comfortable room, friendly, smiling and caring staff. Despite of a lot of visitors inside we felt our privacy. Good music, furniture details and pleasant smell of scented candles makes a perfect relaxing atmosphere. The spa and massage was good. The restaurant and the cuisine was delicious, relaxing music again and the silence, so you can enjoy the taste of dishes from fresh local products in each other`s company.

the only good things of this place are 1) big and confortable room 2) the fact that it is natural spa 3) professional massage (not included). But if you are looking for something more, like an exclusive hotel, I don't reccomend bagni di pisa. average food, too many people in the spa (it is open to anyone) not nice view from our room, not such a good hotel location: you need to take the car if you want to visit something like lucca or pisa...
The hotel is not that bad but of course it is not a real 5 stars hotel!!

We received a complimentary upgrade and received good service throughout our stay. The food at all sittings was exceptional with care and attention not only to taste but also to presentation. The room was very comfortable and clean. The spa was good and the private grotto a treat. Close to Pisa and good value.
