“Many hidden costs... but a lovely stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2013

Before checking in I had a lot of problems with this property. I booked it for only 1 night for a very reasonable price... when all of a sudden cleaning costs of €15 p.p. showed up on the receipt! Per person! How can you make such a mess in 1 night only? I tried to cancel the stay, but they have a MONTH cancellation policy (whereas 2 or 3 days is normal)... I booked it 2 weeks before check-in, so that ship had sailed. They were totally unflexible in negotiating anything that could make it less painful, so I was not at all looking forward to this stay. To make it worse, I paid in cash on arrival, and later on Booking.com also charged me on my account because they forgot to mention I paid already... so had to claim that back.

However, the place was absolutely beautiful. We had a very pretty apartment, with a stunning bedroom, nice bathroom, big living room and kitchen and even a fire place. By far the prettiest place we stayed in during our 3 week Italian roadtrip. Nice swimming pool, but this area could be far more beautiful if the trees weren't blocking the view on the stunning Tuscan landscape. Pretty out of the way and hard to find, only drive there by night time if you are an experienced driver. Close to San Gimignano and smack-bam on the Chianti route. They make their own wine as well, so we had a very happy night with some other guests.

La Moraia is one of the most amazing places for a laid back and relaxed holiday in Italy! This gem of a place is hidden away from the crowded and touristy locations in Tuscany and offers a stunning view of the countryside. Its also very conveniently located for day trips to San Gimignano, Sienna, Poggibonsi and Florence. We had a very comfortable stay in a lovely and very well furnished apartment on the La Moraia farmhouse. The swimming pool on the farm was an added attraction. You would definitely need your personal transport if you want to explore the neighborhood and take short drives to the most charming restaurants in the area for some authentic Italian cuisine and wine. We loved our stay in this beautiful family-run farm and enjoyed the warmth and friendship of its owners, the Venturini siblings - Ilaria and Enrico. We certainly hope to go back there soon someday........

This place is set in the most picturesque location imaginable! Beautiful views of the Tuscan countryside all around you, full of vineyards & trees. The buildings themselves are stunning old structures which look like something out of a postcard image, or perhaps a Jane Austin film/novel. The apartment we stayed in was perfectly furnished with a well-equipped kitchen (including American coffee machine, if that floats your boat) & comfortable furniture. Pool was clean & set in a beautiful location with great views, too. There is ample parking available (I'd recommend only coming by car, I can't see any other way of getting there).
This is definitely somewhere I'd like to come back for a romantic getaway sometime, but it was a great place for a group of friends, too. It's conveniently located about 25mins drive from Siena, about 1hr from Pisa and about 40mins from Florence, in case you want to see a few Tuscan cities while you're in the area!
Just do remember to read the fine print before booking - the €15 per person per night cleaning fee and also gas charges & city taxes were not included in our booking price, so we paid significantly more than we were expecting to pay! It was still worth it, though!

This delightful villa is located in the heart of Chianti, close to San Gimignano .It's an antique family-run property tastefully restored. Our apartment was spotless, very clean, spacious, newly renovated and well decorated. We really enjoyed the central location but at the same time the peace, the quietness and the romantic sorroundings.Last but not least we loved the superb wine and the friendliness of the whole staff. Thanks again!Magalie&Marcel

This is a great, relaxing place to stay, with very friendly owners!

The apartment was furnished with dishwasher, fridge, microwave, new tv but no bath essentials ex shampoo so bring everything you need.

Every room was really clean and tastefully decorated. Moraia is convenient and out of the traffic. It was very quiet.

It is a little off the beaten path, so call ahead for directions. Well worth the drive..

Would go back again!

I stayed here with my boyfriend for a few days after New Year's. Our apartment was basic but charming with a four-burner gas stovetop (paid all of 24 cents for gas usage, even cooked a full dinner one night) and fireplace (although we had to scrounge around for firewood post-NYE bonfire). Ilaria and her family have definitely put lots of work into restoring this place. She and her mother gave us a ride into Poggibonsi and the housekeeper drove us to the train station when we left; call ahead and they'll be happy to pick you up when you arrive! The surrounding landscape is beautiful even in the winter and after a 45-minute walk to the train/bus station, the ride into San Gimignano takes 20 minutes. The agritourism offerings include their olive oil and wine available for purchase. Wonderful if you're just planning to relax in the countryside, a bit inconvenient if you're planning to travel around.
