La Casa degli Archi
Ranked #2 of 15 Pitigliano B&B and Inns

We stayed at Case degli Archi for a couple of days recently, our first visit ever to Pitigliano. It's a fine place to visit, full of medieval alleys and ancient houses, friendly people too. Casa degli Archi is basically a two-bedroom apartment carved out of the lower floor of one of the oldest houses in the town, but what an apartment! The three arches support a cleverly designed swirl of alcoves and rooms, and since it is at the very end of the old city, there are lovely views in every direction. We stayed in the Pensatori room, since it had more light, but either room is good, really. This isn't a traditional B&B, since Cristiano, the friendly host, doesn't live there and simply comes in and supplies breakfast at the start of each day. Otherwise, you're on your own, so this is probably best for fairly independent travellers (which suited us fine). Still, it's a lovely place, and we definitely would go back there.

First of all, Pitigliano is a must and if you do go you MUST stay at the Casa degli Archi. The owner (son of owner?) was extremely friendly, he helped us find parking and then walked us to the house where there was a tray of prosciutto, cheese and bread waiting for us. We could not believe our eyes! It was absolutely beautiful with the most impressive view. There are three bedrooms total, we only reserved one but there was no one else in the house so we had it all to ourselves. We lit a fire at night and relaxed in the sitting room and it could not have been more perfect. My only regret is that we only stayed one night!

We stumbled across La Casa degli Archi while searching the numerous sites on the web for somewhere to stay in Tuscany and decided to give it a chance. I can certainly say the photos do not do it justice!

The accommodation itself is completely unique, in the heart of the old town, beautifully decorated and from it's position on the village walls you're spoilt with amazing views over the surrounding countryside. You know you're staying in a good spot when you find other tourists trying to take photos of it!

The owner / organiser Cristiano is a fantastic host, very enthusiastic about the history of the region, and full of information and activities to fill your days if you're the more intrepid type. Everything from wine tasting to kite boarding. We took part in a Tuscan cooking class or an organic farm which was both great fun and great eating.

Cristiano shared this youtube link with us after we stayed which lets you start to get a flavour of what to expect http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-fO1FlywpU

We stayed at La Casa degli Archi over the Christmas period for 7 nights. Prior to arriving Cristiano was extremely helpful with providing advice on things to do in the area and with booking the property. We'd seen the pictures of La Casa degli Archi prior to arriving but upon entering the house we were blown away - it is stunning! The house is extremely spacious and have been refurbished to the highest standard, keeping many of the historic features. It is very homely with everything that you could ever need. The house is located at the very end of the village, so it is extremely quiet and has amazing views - not to mention the most beautiful sunsets that I've ever seen. We sat in the sitting room just staring out the windows at the sunset for about an hour, it was spectacular! The village itself is beautiful and a great place to be based while exploring Southern Tuscany. I didn't want to leave this gorgeous house and village! I would definitely recommend staying at La Casa degli Arch.

We stayed at la Casa degli Archi in Pitigliano for a week over Christmas and I couldn't recommend it enough.

There was a group of us -- 2 couples and 1 single -- and I had been worried that we would get cabin fever stuck inside in the middle of winter but there was so much room and privacy -- it was perfect.

There are great views too -- it is on the tip of the old town which is perched on a rocky hilltop; it looks out over a valley below and there were some beautiful sunsets.

The village itself is lovely, given its size there are plenty of places to eat and it is beautiful even by Tuscan standards.

Cristiano was very helpful too. He is very passionate about the area and pointed us in the direction of some ancient Etruscan ruins in the valley below (literally at the bottom of some steps below the house).

Highly recommended.

Chris

Was a distance to drive to get to Pitigliano but is a lovely little town with serious historic origins.
Had booked at La Casa degli Archi, and hoped that we would get a bit of a view of the valley... WOW.. had the most amazing, PRIME view of the valley... with HUGE windows to relax and look from. Stunningly simple but classy decor. Cristiano treated us like rock stars and was really helpful. Will definitely recommend staying over several days at least! :)

Amazing flat built in/on a cliff with cave-like qualities and incredible views that leave you speechless. This is the only accomodation inside this fortress of a town. The locals are extremely kind and welcoming. This is a MUST EXPERIENCE.
