My (Australian living in Singapore) family - myself, my husband and my 6 year old son - arrived Easter Saturday 2013, and were warmly welcomed by the wonderful Carlotta, a warm fireplace and a basket (and fridge) of fresh provisions. An extra special touch - a small basket of Easter eggs - delighted my son. We settled in for the night and were further welcomed by a visit from patriarch Luciano and his delicious Grappa and Limoncello. The next morning we met the gorgeous Isabella for an orientation with useful tips imbued with her warm sense of humour. Then (after we managed to get slightly lost...) off for a tour of Sandra's organic farm and an amazing lunch - she is the perfect hostess. We filled the rest of our week with the perfect combination of Isabella's 'Big Book' guide suggested activities and tours (day trips to Siena and San Gimignano) highly recommended) together with just enjoying the surroundings at Cretaiole over some local vino, formaggio and salumi. The cosy accommodation was beautiful but the real gem is the Morriciani family and Carlotta - they provide a personal tour of their working farm, their 'secret grotto', the church where Isabella and Carlo were married, olive oil education, pasta making and a BBQ - giving you enough space to be independent but yet are there for anything you need. We, like many that have posted here, were very sad to leave. The other bonus is the other guests you meet during your stay - 3 generations of an Irish family and an American mom with her 10 year old daughter, as well as a lovely couple from Perth, Australia, made our trip that much more enjoyable. We are now planning to return as soon as possible - still so much to do and see, and hopefully our Italian will have improved for our night time chats with Luciano! We miss them all dearly!

Room Tip: La Oliviera can be a bit noisy overhead depending on the upstairs guests

Trip Advisor emiled me to remind me to review this place, but I want to sy that I stayed here about 7 years ago (I couldn't select that for when I travelled, but I became a FB friend of hostess Isabella, so I know they are still in business and still delighting travellers) for a week. We felt welcomed and confortable and really hated to leave to continue our trip. I loved our room, not luxury but with rustic Tuscan farmhouse touches. The setting is beautful, bucolic, but very close to so many hill towns worth exploring. They have a very inclusive binder in the room with information about everything around, and arrange several wonderful activities that you can opt to join in. I definitely reccommend the organic farm tour and (huge and delicious) mosty vegetarian lunch under the trellis, over looking a valley, on the farm...if they still do that, and the guided tour of Siena that they arranged is also very worth doing. Incuded in the stay was a pici (local pasta) making lesson, followed by a lovely community dinner in the courtyard of the agriturismo and an olive oil tasting class with official olive oil taster/judge Carlo, Luciano's son and the husband of Isabella, hostess extraordinaire, who speaks several languages and is happy to help you in any way.

Moricciani's paternal family farming head, Luciano and his son, Carlo had no idea how successful their imaginations would become in creating this well-appointed "rustic" farm retreat. Converting a small farm house and stable into a high-end collection of comfortable and beautifully decorated, individually offered rooms was a stroke of genius. Each provides guests glimpses into living traditional Tuscan farm life while surrounding them in quiet bucolic privacy. Being on the ground floor, our room's ("L'Ovile") view wasn't expansive and largely confined to two small windows (one in the kitchen and other in bedroom). However, the apartment was delightfully decorated and spacious with a nice sitting area facing a large open-hearth fireplace (wood included) where we spent most of our evenings - a large, well-stocked kitchen with burners, oven, refrigerator and table. The bedroom was equally spacious with king-size bed (bit firmer than we prefer), as was the well sized bathroom with large walk-in tiled shower.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a woman who spoke good English and helped get us oriented to our room. On the kitchen table was a basket filled with a thoughtful bounty of local goods including a home-made bottle of their delicious Tuscan red wine. What Cretaiole lacked in personal interaction (there was rarely anyone around during day to ask questions), it made up with two thick, fabulously information filled binders: (1) of our spacious unit and surroundings; and (2) of suggested touring adventures/routes, sights, shopping, and restaurants. Since we're fairly independent and appreciate our privacy, this formula suited us well.

Among our stay's most special moments were a couple unexpected personal evening visits from family head, Luciano. While my limited Italian was perhaps no better than his English, his warmth as a caring host were ever evident - including his instance on us joining other guests in a final evening sampling his generously offered (and delicious) home-made grappa.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Agriturismo Cretaiole in August of 2013 during Italy's Holiday. Now, while many small business are closed during this time of year, the weather, main attractions, small towns and the people are all open, relaxed and ready to celebrate life, friends, family and food. We sit here struggling to explain our time at Cretaiole in a way unique to what others have already said in previous reviews. The short review is that if you like great people, great food, great views, great wine, great times and even quiet times, this is the place for you!

Imagine waking up in the morning, walking outside to the massive garden, picking your breakfast, grabbing the fresh eggs and starting you day the way some can only dream. After breakfast, the day's activities are up to you. You can choose to lounge all day reading amongst the views and olive orchards, or head to one of the nearby towns for sightseeing and wine. Isabella and Carlotta are the two point point people, and deservedly so! The activity books and general input are priceless to any traveler and can help guide you to your style of trip. The lessons about pasta making are priceless and have come in handy at home. We took advantage of great restaurants (Agriturismo Ristorante La Fonte comes to mind as a favorite), scenic walks, shopping and wine during our short stay here.

As mentioned, because it was Holiday, we had the pleasure of being able to have a very large feast and celebration, not only including current guests, but also including friends and family of the Moricciani family. Absolutely amazing is all we can say!

We definitely will be back, next time likely with our young children. We've already recommended this place to friends and would not shy to ever do so.

See you soon!
Jim and Mandy

Picturesque, charming, homey are just a few words to describe our time at Cretaiole. All the activities and recommendations are well researched, detailed and made our stay effortless. Isabella, Carlo, Luciano, and Carlotta made us all feel as if we were part of their family. If you want a true Tuscan experience, you must stay at Cretaiole.
