“Charming Hotel”

We stayed at the Hotel Residence San Gregorio for two nights. The hotel is located near the bus stop for Siena and Montepulciano and a short distance from the historic center. The hotel building is beautiful, extremely well maintained and very comfortable. The hotel staff is warm and welcoming. The breakfast served in the restaurant was plentiful and of high quality. Highly recommended!

We stayed one night at this lovely hotel/ residence in Pienza. The room was a large suite facing the road with separate bedroom and also a mini-kitchen which we did not use for our short stay but would be useful on longer stays. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the parking, located behind the hotel in a covered lot was great but it did mean having to load and unload our luggage stopped on the main street. We found the bed firm yet comfortable but, unfortunately, our sleep was disturbed by a group of loud guests who camped out in the chairs outside of the front of the hotel until after midnight. Not the hotel's fault but I think we wouldn't choose a room at the front next time.

We were disappointed in the breakfast included in the rate at the small restaurant at the back of the hotel. The fruit was not fresh, probably canned and the croissants dry. Better to head into Pienza for breakfast.

My wife and I traveled Italy for a month. We were joined by our two adult daughters for a three night stay at the San Gregorio.
Pienza was THE highlight of our entire trip and we all wish we could have spent several additional days at this hotel.
First, if you are visiting Tuscany, the town of Pienza has everything all the other towns offer, rolled into a quaint, easily navigable environmment. By all means, visit Pienza before more tour buses visit it and it turns into Venice.
The San Gregorio is located right across the street from the town, and is housed in an elegantly, beautifully appointed building.
Family owned, the service is outstanding from initial greeting to heartfelt goodbyes.
Our rooms were actually suites with a full kitchen. Being in Tuscany, were clearly not cooking for ourselves but actually took a cooking class, arranged by the hotel, right in our suite!! Great fun!!
Parking is easy in a new underground parking garage.
All I can say is terrific and thanks for a memorable experience.
Note: Wi-fi is available and free which is a big plus.

Not to be missed. Wonderful hotel, large rooms (we had a suite, jacuzzi in the tub), the staff made our visit special. Great restaurant attached, with a waiter who knew his regional cuisine and a fabulous chef who knew how to prepare truffles. Great wines. Pienza is a little overrun given its small size. This hotel is a hop and skip away from the main street, with its own parking garage - and would be a great base for bike rides in the country, car trips to the other jewel towns in the region, or relaxing in the hotel's own garden. There is a swimming pool I believe but we did not see it - we stayed only one night. The countryside is glorious. We remember our kind hosts at the hotel as vividly as the beautiful landscape. They were the inner landscape of a generous spirit generously shared.

Strong impression is that this is a hotel looking forward, targeting an upgrade. The facade, the lobby, the rooms and especially the attitude towards guests is of higher class one expects from 3 stars. There are hotels pretending to be more than they are , this one is understated in its price and official rating, but not the service.
The location is perfect. We were bit afraid to stay in 'very touristic town', but Pienza proved to be excellent. First, it is right in the middle of the most beautiful and most interesting area. Both Montalcino and Montepulciano are short (and beautiful) drive away, and the location gives the opportunity for sunrise and sunset drives in the valley (the smaller the road is better). Wine cellars are the best in the region. And staying here, you live for your day trip before the mainstream tourists come and you are back after they are gone! So you see the best of one of the best towns in Tuscany.
The choice of restaurants is immense, you may stay a week and visit a new place every day, and they all are good!
The service is personal and very helpful. All local advise we've got, from restaurants to wine cellars, guided us to the best choices.
The only thin sides are the breakfast and the toiletries in the bathroom which are OK but do not math the quality of the accommodation. The breakfast had less 'Toscanian cuts' one may expect and focusing more on bakery - which is excellent.and local style.

Many years ago, while driving through Tuscano an unexpected stop in Pienza brought us to Hotel San Gregorio. We checked in for one night but stayed for four! On our annual visit to Italy we make sure the San Gregorio is included in our itinerary! Comfortable, warm and exceptionally clean, and the rooms are spacious (unlike most Italian accomodations). It's owned and operated by a wonderful family welcoming each guest into their "home". The hotel is centrally located to many of the top tourist towns. Free parking, Wifi and a generous buffet breakfast with home made pastry and breads are included in the very reasonable price. La Piazetta Restaurant offers a delicious lunch and dinner menu. Visit the Hotel San Gregorio....
make it your favorite too!

Room Tip: There are many different configurations of rooms. Be specific of your needs when making reservation...

Our stay at the San Gregorio was wonderful. We were welcomed by the amazing staff. Anarita and her son Nicola were warm & friendly and made us feel like part of the family. They were available to help at all times. The rooms were simply decorated and very clean and comfortable offering all amenities needed. The large bathroom had a nice size Jacuzzi tub with shower and
plenty of fresh towels daily. The hotel also has it's own restaurant where they serve an included breakfast buffet which gives you a few choices including fresh baked cakes made daily on the premises. Our server Betty was so nice and made the best cappuccino. You can also sample some of the local dishes for dinner which are very good. Another great feature is the minute walk to the main street in town where there are shops, restaurants, churches, and spectacular views of Pienza and the Tuscan region. The beautifully manicured grounds of the hotel also include a swimming pool. There is free parking in a locked underground garage and
Wi Fi is free also.
I highly recommend this hotel to experience the charm & beauty of Pienza and the hospitality of the Italian culture. I truly can't wait to return.
