My wife and I stayed at the Palazzo for three days and over New Years Eve. It was the end point of a two week trip through Northern Italy and by far was our favorite part. The Palazzo had a lot to do with that.

First, we have to say that the service was first rate and obviously a priority for those who are running the hotel. Everything from arranging transportation from the train station, to helping us rent a car, and upgrading us to their best room simply because it was not booked, made us feel looked after at every turn. The three young men who are running the Palazzo seemed to be having the time of their lives and their enthusiasm rubs off.

The property is simply beautiful and has been renovated to luxurious standards. We are generally frugal travelers and this is not a cheap place to stay, but we felt every Euro was worth it. The suite that we stayed in would be perfect for a honeymooning couple or for a rekindling romance in a more experienced marriage. Every detail from the linens to the bathroom, to the entertainment options (including Sky TV with many English options) are at a luxury standard. The frescos that appear throughout the hotel and in the rooms are simply beautiful. The Palazzo's website does not do it justice.

The food is worth the trip alone. I would recommend a visit to the restaurant even if you do not stay here. The food is sophisticated but not fussy or frou-frou. It showcases the freshest local foods and traditional Tuscan fare with gourmet touches. The Chef is really inventive. A breakfast is included in the price and is substantial and tasty, including the option to get eggs - which these American travellers appreciated. Also, the wine list is excellent and fairly well priced, and Massimo, the wine steward, is knowledgeable.

Finally, the location is PERFECT. The Palazzo would be hard to find the first time, because Petroio is not on many maps. But, this is a plus in the end because it is less crowded than other more advertised locations. It you do not have a good map of Tuscany you will find it very near Pienza.

The Palazzo is almost an equal short distance to Montalcino and Montepulciano and a short drive to the Chianti region. Ousmane, one of the three gregarious young men who run the place, will be happy to draw you a map detailing one of his special, romantic drives in the region. Also, we should say that Petroio itself is very picturesque and the Palazzo is perched on a hillside village with expansive views of Olive trees and grape vines. There is a large back patio that is in constant use when the weather is warmer and affords wonderful sunset views.

We can't say enough about this small, beautiful Palazzo. It was simply perfect.

After reading the last review, I thought it was my own. From the hospitality of Ousmane, a room that was amazing, to a meal and service that I shall never forget, our brief stay at the Palazzo Brandano was one that we shall measure against from here forward. My only complaint was that our stay was so brief. We look forward to our return and will recommend to all that are traveling to Tuscany!!!!

This was an experience of unparalled service. From the moment we arrived (Osmane was waiting for us), we were made to feel special. From breakfast outside, served by Jurgen who could not do enough for us, to spectacular dinners to our room upgrade, there was nothing more we could ask. Our room was the Botticelli Suite and was huge yet cozy with every amenity and sweeping views of the Tuscan hills. We day tripped all over the region with directions and maps from Osmane (and restaurant recommendations) but were happy to return to Palazzo Brandano each evening. The food was wonderful and each evening Massimo welcomed us to the dining room as if it were his own home. The chef was tremendously talented and on our last night served us a special dessert, not on the menu, and came to discuss it with my wife who is a pastry chef. If you are thinking of going here, run, don't walk! In many years of extensive travel, we have never had an experience like this one.
