We spent 4 weekday nights in late May 2014 with manager/concierge/fun planner Ousmane and his assistant Linda at Palazzo Brandano, and came away with a great experience and a great appreciation for their guest service. We had heard that Ousmane would take care of us, so we arrived with only one plan (a visit to Assisi) and otherwise turned ourselves over to Ousmane. He did not disapppjnt. The first night, he sent us to a restaurant in nearby Montepulciano (a great steak a la Firenza but that is another review) and wanted to be sure we would find the place so he drove us over and picked us up afterward! Later in the week he led us to a cheese tasting he had arranged at a small local operation -- again concerned we might not find it on our own. The point is not that Ousmane will drive you everywhere, but that he cares so deeply about the experience that he bends over backwards to enable and support every guest's experience.

Palazzo Brandano is in a tiny Tuscan village with no tourists or touristy stuff -- a great retreat after a day of visiting the local attractions in nearby towns. The room we had was large, well appointed, and easy go live in. WiFi is only in the public areas, but that was not a problem for us. We ate there 2 night out of 4, and found the food and service first rate. It is a small place, only 9 rooms, so we found ourselves getting to know other guests and inviting them to share our table at dinner.

You don't park in a medieval Italian village. Parking is a quick 5-minute walk from the hotel, but it was never a problem. When we checked out, Ousmane loaded our luggage in his car and drove it down to ours!

Don't go to the Palazzo Brandano with pre-existing plans. Let Ousmane take over! He welcomes you to his hotel as he would welcome a guest into his home. He arranged an amazing day of touring Tuscany, sharing with us those hidden gems of local small wineries, cheese makers, and restaurants. He served as our concierge, our tour guide, our travel map, our wine steward, our menu selector, and our friend. The accommodations are outstanding, the views breathtaking, the service beyond compare. Special thanks to Linda who provides spectacular service.

We spent 2 nights at Palazzo Brandano in the beginning of July 2013, and we would like to sum it up in the following words: great hospitality, gourmet food, arranged wine tasting and dining in a nearby village, great sense of humour, a luxurious suite and the sound of swallows. On arrival, the host Ousmane greated us with practical information and questions about what we would like to experience while in the area. We had a fantastic creative four-course meal at the hotel’s restaurant the first night, and when it comes to food this was the most original and memorable meal we had while in Italy this year. The room (the Michelangelo suite) was really clean and luxurious, and the breakfast was better than the standard continental style. The next day Ousmane had arranged two “appointments” for us, based on the wishes we mentioned the night earlier. This included a wine tasting at a nearby farm, where we stayed for hours talking to the owner Sergio about the ways of production of his Luteraia wine and his all-natural organic philosophy. Inspiring! You can - and should - buy some bottles of his all natural wine. The same evening we had dinner in another nearby village, at a really charming and social restaurant where you sit down with others at long tables. The atmosphere is warm and the head chef comes to your table to ask you how you would like your steak, and he returns to the table with the cut before preparing it. Great fun! Due to this social way of eating, we got some acquiantances in a German couple with whom we spent the rest of the evening. The day we left the Brandano, Ousmane arranged a visit to a nearby olive oil producer, and we highly recommend you to do the same if you are in the area - it is called Bardi.

One thing about the area: We went into Castiglione del Lago for lunch, and this is something we could have been without. This was kind of a tourist trap, where you could sense the fake-authentic Italian profile of the shops and restaurants.

We would like to thank Ousmane for his great hospitality and the generosity in his recommendations. I mean, not every hotel host would recommend other restaurants in the area when the hotel itself has one. This is a great feature of the Palazzo Brandano; the pride in the area and its possibilities, the love of quality food and wine, and the love of people!

My husband, 11-month old daughter and I stayed here April 11-13, 2014. We reserved a Junior Suite, and were upgraded to the lovely superior suite called the Leonardo Da Vinci room. The place was like out of a history book - lovely, charming, very comfortable.... it was great! Ousmane and Linda do everything they can and go above and beyond to make your stay the most perfect possible. When our little girl was feeling ill during dinner, they happily brought us dessert to our room. The bed was so comfy and the views are amazing. The food in the restaurant is great, too, so plan on having dinner there at least once.

If you are traveling with a baby (like we were), you should note that their baby crib is more for babies that can't pull up. (IE - our baby could easily have fallen out since she's almost walking). no worries though because the comfy bed was HUGE enough to accomodate all three of us soundly :)

i highly recommend this place and meeting Ousmane, Linda and the town of Petroio. it's magical!

Room Tip: The superior suite has two rooms, 1.5 bathrooms. It was huge and nice to have a living room to sett...

Not really much more to add than has already been said by other guests. My partner booked this as a surprise and attained masses of brownie points for it.
I found our stay completely perfect, Ousman cannot be more of an accomplished host. He organised a trip to a local vineyard, suggested local sites and generally was there if you needed him but melted away when you just wanted to relax or do your own thing. We had a cooking lesson in the kitchen which was fun.
The village is amazing and we wandered there on two evenings to the small but beautiful square. I sat with the local ladies who were very welcoming and friendly, they even invited me to play cards with them.

This is not what I would call a hotel in the sense of the word, it's difficult to explain but it is quite beautiful, rural, rustic and a peaceful place with amazing views and fabulous authentic and locally sourced food.
Expensive but worth it. This epitomises the saying "you get what you pay for"
If you want to push the boat out and experience a real Tuscan village stay in a decedent place, this is for you. I Completely recommend and endorse.

My wife and I visited Palazzo Brandano during our honeymoon. As many other reviewers have stated everything about this place is amazing however it is Ousmane and is team that truly elevate this place to the next level.

It is because of this we will plan to return and experience the Tuscany region, Ousmane's great hospitality, wine pairings and food.

If you do go make a point of having dinner onsite at least one night. Ousmane is an amazing host and goes out of his way to make the dinner experience very personal.

Thanks to the Trip Advisor community for allowing us the opportunity to find out about this place. We feel fortunate to have experienced Ousmane's generous hospitality firsthand.

If you are headed to Italy and plan to travel in and around Tuscany don't think twice about staying somewhere else. This is not only a place to stay this is an experience you cannot miss.

We can't say enough about how fantastic our stay at Palazzo Brandano was.

Ousmane was a fantastic host: from upgrading our rooms (at no charge) when he found out it was our honeymoon, to arranging tastings of olive oil, wine, cheese, pork, to serving as our sommelier at dinner, to finding great restaurants. He made everything so easy - it's no wonder the place gets awesome reviews.

Set in the tiny hill town of Petroio, Palazzo Brandano is a respite from the larger cities of Italy. It is quiet, quaint, and charming. It is an easy drive to the "major" hill towns: Pienza, Montepulciano, and Montalicino, and not far from Sienna and other Tuscany sites.

The rooms are large and spacious, clean, comfortable and relaxing. The restaurant is wonderful, and the wine great, and the after dinner drinks superb.

But what really distinguishes this place from the others is the service. Anything we needed, it was arranged - and each time, the experience was more than we expected.

And for the price? An absolute steal. I hesitate to write such a glowing review, as I'd hate to see the perfect vacation spot spoiled, but frankly, it is too good of a place not to share with everyone else.
