This was our first visit to Italy and we found this hotel a great point from which to visit many key regions; we have covered Pisa, Florence, Rome, Siena and the Chianti valley plus a lot of sun lounger/pool time in two weeks thanks to a trusty hire car and the helpful reception team. One top tip, when visiting Rome we drove to Orte (5 mins off A1) and trained in from there. Really simple and the station offers a great cup of tea also!

The hotel is great if you are fairly independent, but do not come here if you insist on international hotel comforts, eg 24 hr room service, king size double beds etc. That said the staff are very helpful and informative and will assist you any way they can. The hotel has 2 restaurants; a more formal one on site and a relaxed one with a fab view a leisurely 10 minute walk away in Artimino itself. There is also a great gelato shop next to the bell tower which was a lovely way to round off the night. The pool is lovely with plenty of sun loungers for all - the dreaded 6am 'bagging' of sun loungers doesn't happen here!

We have had a great time and will definitely return. Thank you Artimino!

Dear Heifcat,

thank you very much for you fantastic report!

I especially appreciate yoru note about the staff.
The Hotel building is a fantastic scenary of the real Tuscan countryside, but the staff, the workers are for sure a specific "plus".
Thank you again!

Our family of 5 visited the Hotel Paggeria Medicea with an "Adventures by Disney" tour. After the hustle and bustle of Rome, this idyllic Tuscan paradise was just what we needed! We stayed on the first floor of the hotel - which used to be the acutual horse stables for the Medici family's estate. The main house is now used for weddings and conventions, but we were able to get a tour, and it was great! If you stay here, definitely do your research and learn about the Medici family. The history is incredible! There isn't much to do here but relax and eat. The food is wonderful at the hotel restaurant as well as at the restaurant across the valley in the town of Artimino. Make sure to purchase lots of their freshly pressed olive oil. It's so delicious!

Room Tip: All the rooms are different. We stayed in rooms 3 and 4 on the bottom floor. Very spacious.

The location is idyllic with magnificent views. 200 m high you have a breathtaking view over the valley and you can even spot Firenze when walking to the tennis court. One tennis court is completely decayed. There are four restaurants in the neighborhood with the Da Delfina restaurant absolutely outstanding. The breakfast is disappointing with no eggs, no orange juice, only some toasted bread with marmalade and some yoghurt. The swimming pool is spacious as the garden around it with plenty of chairs. Another flaw is wifi accessibility. Only possible in the lobby and around the swimming pool, so not in the apartments. This is a real problem. If you can live with this, just go there for a week and visit Prato, Pistoia and off course Firenze

We came upon this hotel accidentally whilst looking for a self catering holiday in Tuscany and are so glad that we found it. it is the kind of place that you could go back to year after year! An easy drive from Pisa airport, a car is a must, but not to be used too often as lazy days by the pool in the beautiful garden are very relaxing. Our room was spacious and characterful, with views up the valley and out onto the breakfast area and villa. Very cool, but with good air conditioning if necessary. A traditional room with a very modern bathroom, towels changed daily and bedding every two days. The weather during our stay was exceptionnally hot and sunny; breakfast on the lawn every morning, lunch in the outdoor cafe in the garden, evening meals on the terrace of the main restaurant or the Cantina in the village. Both hotel restaurants were excellent and good value for money. Da Delfina, an independent restaurant in the village was nice also, slightly more expensive with beautiful views, but not significantly better than the hotel ones. The Boddega, shop and restaurant in the village square had nice food, but service was haphazard. Florence was an easy trip on the train from Signa and Sienna slightly further by train from Empoli, both an easy drive from the hotel. Vinci was well worth a visit as was San Gimigniano, both within an hour or so to drive with good parking. The village itself has an excellent museum of the Etruscan era, and there are several Etruscan tombs nearby, within walking distance. All in all a great place to stay, informal, relaxed and very friendly with a good mix of nationalities. We were there when England played Italy in the European Championships and the atmosphere round the TV was fantastic. We will definitely return, perhaps when the weather is a little cooler so that we can do more sightseeing in Florence. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor, rather than the ground.

Do you need a splendid place to go to? Artimino is a gem, situated just a 25 min drive from busy Florence. You are greeted by a splendid Medici villa and a charming authentic village connected by a pleasant lane. Olive groves and vineyards all around you. The extremely comfortable rooms at the hotel Paggeria or the spacious apartments in the village are the ideal rest place for people with busy lives and the desire to also discover the Tuscan natural beauty and the Etruscan prehistory on foot. The view from your room is breathtaking and in the village you also have a large balcony from where you have a view until the snow covered Appenine mountains. The food is superb and very affordable. You even have the choice between the restaurant in the village and the one at the hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The walks in the vicinity are idyllic. We have stayed at both the hotel and the village and have a difficult time to decide what to advocate most: maybe the hotel for a short stay and the village apartments for a stay longer than 2-3 days? One thing is certain, you will never forget Artimino and hope to return

This is one of the most beautiful locations in the world to escape the frenitic pace of 21st century life. This Medicci Villa and stables has been tastefully converted and captures the essence of past times with the comforts of good food and warm atmosphere. If you need to get away for a restorative break come to Artimeno. You will find peace and quiet, a wonderful hotel and friendly helpful staff.

Artimino is a small village like affair in the Tuscan hills near Florence that you will not be able to access without a car or taxi. It is about one hour drive from Pisa airport up some fairly winding minor roads. I have been there several times over the past decade relating to the conference center where I attend residential meetings over a weekend. The hotel is very cut off, and basically if you are staying there, there is nothing local, except walking unless you have your own transport. The hotel (not the village apartments) has a small number of rooms on two floors. There is no lift, and my best description of the environs is 'rustic'. Staff are friendly and try to be helpful, but I am a bit perplexed why it takes three of them to make a cup of coffee. If you want your coffee to British tastes, this is unlikely to occur
Rooms are fairly big, but with steps and twists and turns to bathrooms and very Italianly basic e.g. uncarpeted, little soft furnishings. There are safes and telephones, but the electricity is the funny southern european sockets that adaptors may not fit. I have a Fuji multipin adaptor that fitted, but the standard northern Europe two pin job will not work. Little choice of television channels. There is free wifi internet in communal areas, and ethernet available in rooms.
Breakfast is typically Italian with a small choice of cold dishes. The hotel breakfast room is cramped and the seating is clearly not intended for comfort and convenience. There is an impressive seating area outside for when the weather is good.
The good think about the hotel is the food, and having eaten in all its restaurants over the years, it is the main reason for returning. The variety and quality of the food is excellent and the portions overwhelming.
This is a great place if you want to be cut off from civilisation.

Room Tip: A ground floor room is necessary if you have luggage. If you stay in the village apartments make sur...
