We were very excited about our tour to the wineries in the Chianti region as we didn't rent a car so this was our only way of sight seeing the country-side. Roberto came highly recommended by Rick Steve's and our B&B- plus all the reviews are great! He picked us up from our B&B and was very nice, energetic, and funny. However, once we picked up the other couple who was joining us for the tour he became somebody different. I think he has been very busy as he said he hadn't had a day off in 15 days- so maybe he was a bit cranky. My husband and I found him borderline offensive at times with his comments or jokes- talking about sexual preferences and political views. We also felt like we couldn't ask any questions without him talking down to us and making us feel silly for even asking such a question. He was very knowledgeable about the history and wine making process- but we could have done without the cocky attitude. Possibly having Anna would have made for a better experience. We would not recommend this tour for anyone who is looking for a nice, laid back day enjoying the countryside.

We are terribly sorry that you did not enjoy your tour. You are right, there may never have been a month more stressful for Roberto than July 2013 in general, in which among other things he'd had his van vandalized and received a scary phone call from a competitor. Still, he tries very hard to put his best foot forward and would never knowingly offend anyone. Please know if you are ever back in town, or wish to give us a second try through a friend or relative, we'd be delighted to offer you or them a free day with us.

OK, imagine a young, knowledgeable, enthusiastic Tuscany resident. Starts a small tour company. Drives the bus himself, develops a repertoire of places to go, a nice little business.

Then Rick Steves discovers him and makes him the top recommendation for his favorite city in Italy. Come back 5 years later and there's a fleet of buses, "Tours by Roberto uniforms," very sleek operation, and where is Roberto? Meeting with PR representatives, negotiating licensing deals, "expanding the brand?"

No. He's still driving the bus. And his tours are still every bit what attracted the notice of Steves.

We contacted them early, so we got to pick the day's itinerary. The contacts were incredibly friendly and smooth. The pickup at the hotel was right on schedule. And it was a fantastic day.

We had a congenial group, which always helps, but Roberto was the perfect tour guide. He was funny, knowledgeable, and the places he took us were memorable. My wife has limited mobility and sometimes we're hesitant about group tours for fear we might hold things up. Not a problem this time -- Roberto was so helpful getting her in and out of the van and helping us move along.

It made for a memorable day. Roberto has wine tours, tours that emphasize historical attractions, and tours that emphasize history. They would all be worthwhile.

It is unfortunate that this tour is listed out of Asciano as it is a little difficult for people visiting Florence to come across and they could miss out on an excellent opportunity. My wife and I were picked up in the morning by Anna and as no one else had signed up for that day, we were the only two on the tour. We stopped on the way out of town at Piazzale Michelangelo and were able to get some excellent pictures of Florence. From there we stopped at a small village and a couple of wineries. Wine tasting was a completely different experience from Napa, California in that it was much more personal and relaxing. Anna was a kick and spent the drive talking about history and giving us background about the wine region and any other questions we had. Highly, highly recommended for a great side trip from Florence.

We did two tours with Roberto in May of 2013, the Chianti tour as well as the Val D'Orcia and the Etruscans tour. Both were fantastic. On the Chianti tour we visited 2 small villages and enjoyed the excellent scenery of the clay hills and the Chianti region. We had a wonderful lunch and then tasted wines and olive oil at a winery. We learned so much about wine making and the differences in Italian wine versus wine made elsewhere in the world. I was thrilled to have a chance to learn more about the agriculture and process of wine making, instead of being shuttled from winery to winery like other tours advertise.

On the Val D'Orcia and Etruscans tour we visited an Estruscan museum and learned more in an hour from Roberto than we ever could have on our own in a library. His knowledge is extensive and he shares the information with passion and enthusiasm. After the museum we ventured to lunch on a self-sustaining farm and learned about the process of making cheese and enjoyed an amazing lunch. The view from the farm has to be one of the most beautiful in the region. After lunch we toured Montepulciano and visited a coppersmith who still creates all of his pieces in the traditional style with tools his grandfather and father used.

Our 2 tours were easily the highlight of our 3 week trip in Italy. Both Roberto and Anna are amazing tour guides and their passion for Tuscany and its many treasures is what makes their tours second to none.

**Just a note (which they explain in all of their materials) - the museum entrance fee, lunches, wine tasting, etc were all extra and paid for in cash at the time of service. Remember to bring plenty of euros so you don't miss out on any of those wonderful experiences.

What a wonderful day - we feel we have made a friend in Italy! Roberto is great fun, full of energy, passion and great jokes. We were a multi-national group and he managed to appeal to the humour of all of us. The winery we visited was great; Roberto was very knowledgeable and we tasted some fabulous wines and olive oil and learned lots. The wines were very reasonably priced so we have shipped 12 bottles home and cant wait for their arrival! We also visited a very picturesque medieval village followed by a lovely local eatery. Roberto drove slowly and carefully - we had 2 of our group prone to car sickness. The day in the Tuscan countryside is one I'll never forget and I would highly recommend this tour.
