“Lovely family-run hotel”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

We had a wonderful week's holiday here the first week in January 2013. This hotel was just perfect for our group. We were so well looked after. Two members of our party had birthdays and the chef made little cakes for them - nice touch. The hotel has everything you need. The boot room has excellent boot warmers, the food was fab. The Orchidea has a cosy little bar with a great stock of Grappa!

The staff were friendly and helpful and I have to say it was probably the cleanest hotel I have ever been to! Thank you very much for a lovely stay.

We have just come back from a weeks skiing holiday in Passo Tonale staying at the Hotel Orchidea. We were greeted on arrival by Sonia, one member of the Longhi family who runs this hotel together with her brother and parents. On meeting each member of the family they were all extremely friendly and accommodating and not forgetting Lacky, Mr Longhi's assistance dog who was adorable and very friendly too!

The first impressions of this hotel was that it was very well kept and extremely clean, a fact that I picked up on during our stay as the standard of cleanliness never faultered at all, the staff always seemed to be cleaning.

The food was I suppose typically Italian with a continental breakfast followed by dinner which consisted of Anti Pasta, a Pasta Dish, Meat Dish and Dessert. Not always to everyone's taste but our party always found the food good.

The Wellness Centre was well equipped and again extremely clean - certainly well worth a visit after a hard days skiing to ease those aching legs.

The Hotel Orchidea is situated on the edge of the village but is still only a 5 or 10 minute walk to reach the rest of the hotels, bars and the main lifts and slopes. The thing you have to say about Passo Tonale is that it is compact and everything is well within easy reach.

This trip was our 9th or 10th time in Passo Tonale and over the years we have seen the resort slowly grow but certainly improve with the construction of new and improved lifts and cable cars.

If you want a resort that offers great facilities to both beginners and intermediate skiiers, certainly think about Passo Tonale.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the front of the hotel because you get a balcony and a stunning view The rear of...

Had a short break skiing and felt really at home. The host Sonia and her brother where very aimiable and friendly. The food was very basic but tasty. We had to cut short our holiday due to unfortunate circumstances and Sonia organised a airport transfer for us at a reasonable rate, The ski lift is just around the corner but up the hill: you can however catch a small bus which takes you to the main ski lift which takes literally minutes. The ski area is excellent and many miles to ski.
I would definately return as the hospitality is excellent. Top tip: Down the hill on the left is a excellent local bar where you can play cards, dominoe or draughts whilst drinking the local Pinot.

This hotel is at the opposite end of Passo from the glacier and is about 15 mins walk up a steep hill from the nearest ski lift. If the snow is very good, you can use that to zig zag down the valley to the glacier end where there is more skiing. The ski bus stops outside which is great but it soon gets very full and then doesnt stop. The timing and where it stops are also a bit random.
When we went the snow was very sparse and you needed to take the bus from the ski areas at the opposite ends of the valley.
The hotel is small with reasonable rooms with those on the front having a view over the valley. The food is reasonable and just about enough. You get the following days menu the night before and you can choose form a handful of options. Some of the breakfast buffet options disappear quickly so you need to get down early to have the full choice.
There is a tiny bar offering beer and spirits.
Downstairs there is a boot room with boot heaters and lockable ski racks. There is also a small section with steam room, sauna etc
Our family had 4 rooms and in each one the shower overflowed the tray wetting the floor in the bathroom. All rooms weres imply furnished and were ok. The cleaner was of ninja black belt standard and liked to use amonia to clean hard surfaces and seemed to clean the corridor every day which nearly burned your lungs out if you needed to use it.
The disappointing part of our stay was the theft of a swiss army knife, 20 euro and a rucksack from the rooms. When we told the hotel manager they werent bothered.
I wouldnt go back purely for that

Room Tip: the rooms on the front overlook the valley. The ones at the back look into the hill

We booked a ski holiday with Neilsons and travelled to this hotel on the 24 March (bit of a delay, but I am a very busy individual!).
Although the conditions weren't brilliant, if you looked around that was sufficient skiing for our crowd mainly intermediates.
The Hotel was spotless and the staff very accommodating. The food was good and we really enjoyed our stay. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Ask for a first floor room. some 2nd floor rooms have a sloping roof.

We arrived at the hotel over the Easter weekend and stayed a week. The hotel is very clean, the rooms are spacious and the staff are very pleasant but I think they were all a bit tired and after the Easter weekend there was a definite feeling of the hotel winding down eg after Tuesday the breakfast coffee machine was taken out of service and the rest of the week we only had cold coffee and watery tea brought from the kitchen on request. We thought most of the food was uninspiring or just plain horrible (far too salty or badly cooked - raw pork on one occasion), but there was always a big bowl of pasta with tomato sauce on the menu so, although it is monotonous, you don't starve. Fresh fruit as a dessert was on offer every day and it was excellent - beautiful oranges and pears. The spa is very nice and clean and very useful because there is not a lot to do in Tonale except ski! We were very lucky as halfway through the week there was a heavy snowfall so we had a lovely holiday. The views from the balcony are excellent. It is quite a hike to the nearest ski lifts but there is a free bus which stops on request outside the hotel and travels around all the lifts continuously throughout the day which helps a lot. The reason I would not stay there again is because of the food - if you can stay there without half board it is a good hotel.

All staff were really pleasant and helpful, place was immaculate and cleaned regularly, food good although the English descriptions could be improved. Would happily go again. Views are absolutely stunning. Incredibly good value.
