Sixth visit in Villa Arcadio made me to rate it. This stay convinced me that the place is not a dream. More like a dream come true.
The hotel of less than twenty rooms used to be a monastery and is now run by a Finnish lady Jaana. She´s a real cosmopolitan who can chat with you in several languages and creates the tranquil athmosphere around the house.
The whole style of this hotel is carefully considered and built with good taste. And quality, for sure. The decor is not really ”a decor” cause it looks very much like been there for ages, still not being antique. I see it like a mixture of Scandinavian cool and the warmth of Northern Italy.
Let the matron tell you more about the history of the building and the surroundings. The magnificent lake view you will experience right on your arrival. The same scenery you can admire straight form the pool too.
There are also ancient frescoes carefully restored. Found some even in my room once. Try to spot a tiny picture of a sleeping hunting dog somewhere between the floors. And say hello to the shushing angel at the staircase. Someone of the staff told me that the whole monastery-hotel was originally reconstructed around this little marble statue.
The rooms are of average size and intimate, don´t wait for ”grand salles”. Bathrooms are spotless and polished, to my eye they´re built with craftmanship. Found no bathtub though, pity...
After admiring the lake-view from the room couple of times I hired a tiny ground floor room with a green balcony. Also very peaceful.
A decent and modern restaurant is there, also to lunch in a splendid terrace. A healthy breakfast is provided. It´s been served for me even I´ve sometimes been late.
The whole haven is situated on a hill-side about two-three kilometers from the pittoresque lakesidetown of Salò. In a good weather it´s a pleasure to stroll down there on foot. But at nights and in a bad weather the transportation is a problem. It´s tiresome to try to get a taxi from Salò. The owners of the hotel have promised to help you with this unnecessary problem.
During my stays I´ve been guided to a lemon farm, to a cheese factory and to a nature park. The staff is willing to arrange such trips for you, as well as short cruises by wooden Riva-boat on Lake Garda. With extra charge, of course.
Villa Arcadio is easy to reach by car (through Milan, Verona, Pisa or Bergamo), but little bit more complicated if you´re travelling by train like me. Ask beforehand from the hotel for somebody to pick you up e.g. at the Desenzano-station. If you´re lucky it will be Jaana herself.

What an amazing experience. Great food and setting. A real gem. First proper stop on my travels and what a start. i have never been to a hotel that helps you so much and are so accommodating.
One of the best things was eating hams and cheeses with a great wine overlooking the lake.

High up, overlooking Lago di Garda, this old villa has become a gorgeous place in which to relax and enjoy Italian hospitality and views of this picture postcard like setting. Breakfast which starts rather late is served on the terrace, which is lovely. Omelettes or bacon and eggs are made to order. The rooms are well equipped, comfortable beds, wifi, and modern fittings for the lighting, also liked the walk-in wardrobe with safe and the large bathroom with lots of snowy white towels plus the quaint toiletries packages - it seemed a shame to open them, now have a set from one day adorning my guest bathroom.
The infinity pool is beautifully appointed and the perfect place to relax.
One thing, not the fault of the hotel, flies in the room this late in the season, but quickly rectified by requesting the room sprayed while we were out. Understood that a 20 minute walk would take us down to the lake. Remember to get very clear directions in deciphering the hotel's little map. I went ahead of the others and ended up in a very large field which turned out to be private property and the whole walk into town took me 65 minutes, but some people have a better sense of direction. A taxi can be had from town, for 12 Euros which is a bit steep, but so is the hill! The town of Salò is beautiful but extremely commercial with many boutiques to tempt the traveller. Not least, the staff were very friendly and food in the restaurant excellent.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the second floor facing the lake - mine was looking out into the courtyard on the...

We had a very pleasant few nights at Villa Arcadio. The Villa has been elegantly restored into a stylish hotel with a great restaurant and fabulous infinity pool. The rooms are simply but stylishly decked out in sleek neutrals and come with good quality beds, linen and toiletries - adding to the overall experience.

The highlight for us was the infinity pool with stunning views of Lake Garda, Salo, the mountains and beyond. Even better when enjoyed with a glass of Prosecco! The restaurant was pricey but excellent and we were very well looked after by staff- especially the sommelier. We liked how the chef used fresh local ingredients including herbs and vegetables from the villa's gardens. We also had a great more rustic meal out at the excellent Osteria Orologie in Salo- a short drive away.

We stayed at this hotel for 10 days during July this year and chose it as a perfect romantic getaway - designed to allow us to wind down from our hectic London lives and enjoy the peace and quiet of our surroundings. I'm pleased to say that it delivered on almost all points.

Perhaps most importantly, the staff were brilliant. There is a small team that runs the hotel between them and they're all very friendly and efficient. They made every effort to speak English to us (our Italian being non-existent) and they coped admirably. The food at the hotel is exemplary - my husband is gluten intollerant and they were able to cater for him very well. His only comment in relation to the menu was that they might like to vary it more than they do (in the 10 days that we stayed, the menu remained static, apart from a few changes to the chef's recommendations).

The location of the hotel is stunning. There is a lovely terrace area at the back of the hotel, with a small infinity pool that looks out over Lake Garda and the view really is breathtaking. It makes you smile every morning you look out of your window. The hotel is also beautifully furnished. Jaana has an eye for design and the antiques in the hotel were just to our liking. We found ourselves agreeing at the end of our trip that if we ever had a house like Villa Arcadio, we'd furnish it in exactly the same way!

The only downside (which was quite a major one to us) was the amount of children at the hotel. We understood and accepted that it was child friendly but expected that with it being so small, the weighting of couples to children would be much higher. We also expected any children that were there to be well behaved. Unfortunately we were wrong on both counts! We actually complained to Jaana after one particulalry bad afternoon by the pool where children were dive bombing and using inflatables (despite clear instruction that this was not permitted) and to her credit, she spoke with the guests immediately and things improved hugely. We really appreciated the action that she took and this again highlighted the excellent service level at this hotel. As a result of this however, we wouldn't recommend it for couples loking for a quiet retreat, which is a shame as in my opinion, the villa lends itself perfectly to just this. This did slightly spoil the holiday for us given that we had gone there looking specifically for tranquility but in all other areas, we were thrilled.

Arriving at the villa up a cobbled road takes you back in time and for the entire stay forgetting time and enjoying the peace of the villa and the breathtaking views across olive groves to the lake and mountains remains a pleasurable memory. The villa has been tastefully decorated with an eclectic mix of old and modern and the rooms are comfortable with beautiful views overlooking the lake. The pool and poolside are perfectly set to enjoy the view with immediate access onto a beautiful terrace. The are also clean with wonderful loungers and enough umbrellas. We ate each night at the restaurant and enjoyed everything, especially the fish and the local wine. The staff are excellent remembering your name, room number and what you would like to eat! Having a car is a must so that you can travel around and enjoy what the region has to offer. This is a villa not to be missed.

Room Tip: Try to get one with two windows, one overlooking the lake and the other the pool.
