This is not a 4* hotel, however, it is in a wonderful position right on the side of the lake, in front of the Duomo and 2 minutes to the ferry.
We had booked a twin bedded room and was given a very small double, we left our bags there and went to complain. This was not met with a friendly apology but as the hotel was not full it only meant changing their computer -we were asked to come back later when it had been sorted. This we did only to find our bags had not been changed to the correct room.
The food was very good but we were given the same menu all week with just one special each day. If you are a vegetarian the only option was omelette. The Sparrows constantly hopping on tables were never discouraged. There were no cushions on the sun beds but you could have sun towels at no extra charge.
Salo is a lovely quiet Italian small town which is pedestrianised in the large old part - ideal for people watching in the evenings when the locals come to parade and eat ice creams.
The buses are very frequent, clean, cheap and punctual, go to the Tourist Information for a bus timetable.
Go to the Saturday market to see how the locals shop.
In the evenings the Town Hall occasionally gives free evening music sessions.

Room Tip: Book a room with a lake view, although it is charged extra it is well worth it to people watch in the evenings.

We had a very enjoyable stay. The staff were relaxed, friendly and helpful. The quickest check in in the history of check ins - 1 minute - great ! This is a small, comfortable hotel with a good local feel to it in a superb location. In our view Salo was the best location we saw on Lake Garda and the hotel is only a few metres away from the lake edge and the ferry stop. The views over the lake are superb this in our view elevates this hotel above other perhaps more expensive hotels. Salo is quieter than other resorts but has a style and class of its own..The room was on the small side but comfortable and spotlessly clean. The breakfast is continental but perfectly good with a good choice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor with a lake view to ensure beautiful views of the lake

Amazing location on the boardwalk in Salo. Very clean and neat rooms. Great shower. We only stayed in small room that overlooked back of hotel but it was fine. Breakfast was very good and great to have breakfast overlooking the Lake. The owners were very helpful in suggestions about what to do around the area of Salo- in fact more helpful than the local tourist office. Would highly recommend this hotel.

We travelled to the Hotel Duomo 2 years ago and had a suite with lake view. It was perfect, escpecially for sitting out on the balcony wth a glass of wine in the evenng.

2 years later and travelling with our 12 month old daughter we new this was the hotel for us. Booked a lake view suite again as was perfect with a seperate area for our daughters cot which has its own door. Everything was ready for us on arrival with a more than adequate trael cot and all the bedding provided.

Everything was perfect and the staff could not have been more helpful. There is also a mini bar in the room which was ideal for us as we took everything out and used it to store milk and food for the baby with no problems.

Salo intself is perfect for young families as there is so much to do (even a playground wich she loved the swings) The ferries are very accesible for pushchairs and the restaurants and bars are very baby friendly. We were lucky as she slept in her pushchair after her dinner so we could enjoy a meal and a couple of cocktails out and then back to the balcony for some wine overlooking the lake and promande while the baby enjoyed a peaceful nights sleep.

This was a perfect location and hotel for a first holiday with our new daghter. Would 100% reccommend and will probably be going back next year.

Room Tip: If you want a lake view wth a nice big room and have the money definately book one of the 2 lake view suites. Just perfect

This was our second stay at the Duomo and I had no hesitation on booking for a second time. Ideally located with rooms with a lake view but cost more. Room was well appointed but lighting for reading was poor. Breakfast offered a very comprehensive spread in an elegant dining room with lake views.

Room Tip: Lake views are quite something with the sun on the balcony - worth paying extra for. Good wi-fi in bedroom.
