“Avoid this hotel”
Reviewed October 2, 2005

We stayed at this hotel betwwen 27th September and 1st October 2005 and were very diappointed at the it's standards as follows:
1 – the Jaccarino Hotel is in a desperate state of repairs and is badly run down
2 – there is no Air Conditioning anywhere in the hotel
3 – the windows and doors are not double glazed
4 – the hotel is swamped by mosquitoes, flies and other crawling insects
5 – there was no mini bar / fridge in the room
6 – there was no shower in the bathroom and the sanitary ware were very old and dilapidated with broken tiles, toilet and taps
7 – with the exception of a small outdoor swimming pool there were no other leisure or sports facilities in the hotel.

The hotels has been rated by Citalia as a four star hotel, but Thomson’s and Thomas Cook have down graded this hotel to a three stars hotel, but frankly is more like two stars and worse.

Good luck

My husband and i stayed at this hotel in september. It was our second trip to Italy and i really hope it won't be our last.
Having read some reviews before hand i was rather worried about
staying in this hotel. However with the exeption of a couple of very minor grumbles, we would both agree that our stay was a very happy one.
What were our grumbles, well we did ask for a balcony with a view, we got
a balcony but the view was of other balconys. As we booked our holiday rather late we couldn't really complain, and we didn't pay for a sea view.
Actually after a while it didn't really bother us to much as sitting out there
in the evening with a glass of wine was very nice and peacefull.
My husband found the evening meal to be okay, but i have to confess that i found it rather strange. Not what i would really consider to be typical
Italian food. But i have to stress that we were never hungry.
The courtisy bus was available everyday.exept Sunday, but contrary to what we were told on arrival the local buses run everyday including Sundays. There is a brilliant train and bus service and trips out under your own steam are much cheaper than if you go with Thompson. The staff
were very very helpful and the other guests were very friendly. The village of st agata[ 2 mins walk from the hotel is very lively at the weekend but
there isnt an awful lot to do there in the evening.
All in all i would say that your holiday is what you make it and if you want
to be in the heart of the bustle and noise then avoid this hotel. If
however you don't mind peace and quiet then this is the place to be. As for
the hotel itself forget those two grumbles. because i for one would
certainly stay there again.

Have just returned from a week staying at the hotel. Would definitely reccomend, even though there were some minuses!

On the plus front: Breathtaking location. Our room looked right out across the bay, with Versuvius in the background... awesome!

A really good location to be based explore the cost. Local bus/ train and ferry links are all easily accessible. Really glad we were based slightly outside of Sorrento. The village itself is cute with many nice restaurants, including the amazing 3 Michellin star Don Alfonso (a must!)

The staff are just sooooo lovely and could not be more helpful.

Great pool, wasn't too crowded early Sept.

Our room was lovely, but ask if possible for one of the rooms by the pool. These are more recently refurbished.

The minuses

It is true, when we went the food at both breakfast and evening meal was very...VERY dissapointing. Lunch from the poolside cafe was better. HOWEVER this really didn't matter, as we really enjoyed popping out to the village or into Sorrento to try something new... hey, that is what holidays are all about!!! This would not deter me from staying at the hotel again, I'd just go room only or B&B next time that all!

The mozzies were a big problem when we went, and we were quite badly bitten... didn't ruin the holiday, just be prepared, that is all!!!

All in all the pluses, the view and the warmth of the staff far far outweigh the niggles... Can't wait to rebook!

Other highlights:

Capri (we stayed overnight, which is highly reccommended) Check out the Weber Ambassador if you do this! Such a magical place

Pompeii ... Awesome! VERY hot and dusty! Hat, loads of water and suncream a must!

L'Antica restaurant. Our favourite restaurant in Sorrento. Exquisite food and wines, the loveliest staff... A real 'foodie' treat.

Don Alfonso - As above

Enjoy! It is a truly magical place.

When I arrived with my grandaughter (maybe our last holiday together as she is growing up too fast)....we were very disappointed with the room.Having paid the extra to Thomsons for a balcony it was still very dark and musty with no air conditioning (which really should be essential). We requested a room change immediately however the hotel was full.
On waking the next morning( not so tired) and listening to peoples converstaions...... "our" room wasnt too bad.
The view from the terrace of the bay of naples is absolutely breath taking and made up for other disappointments.
Staying at this hotel you need to be "active"....steps to everything!!
The small village St.Aggata is well worth a visit( a short walk from the hotel) all of the bars and shops were cheaper than the hotel.
Took a couple of trips with Thomson (VERY EXPENSIVE) ...but loved CAPRI.Could have done it for half price under our own steam though.
Our first visit to Italy which should by no means be compared to visits to other european countries (spain etc) as its a completely different culture...no english bars,no lager louts, very smart dress....what a very pleasant change.
A wonderful country.....would certainly visit again however would most probably not stay at this hotel.

Before visiting this hotel with my Parents, best friend and grandmother i read the reviews on this website and others. They immediatly put me off the Hotel and i was not looking forward to my holiday as i planned to spend most of my time relaxing by the pool after a hard summer of A Level exams.

But when i arrived at the hotel with my family and friend all exhausted i was glad to see that it looked very appealing and a very nice and polite man came and helped us with our bags. The first plus point.

On entering the Hotel i was impressed to see that it was clean and bright and on going outside saw that it had fantastic views over Sorrento and what more a clean swimming pool surrounded by parasols and sun loungers. Nothing bad so far.

I was slightly dissapointed with my room as it was rather small for 2 teenage girls to share and the bathroom was also quite small but the shower was large and powerful. As for the noise at night....For the first night i found it hard to sleep becuase of the mopeds and the clock chiming on the hour and at half past the hour BUT it is ALOT quiter than being in the town of Sorrento as the traffic is horrific and you soon get used to it. Another down side to the rooms were that they were not air conditioned. The rooms were cleaned every day and the beds and towels changed.

The swimming pool was beautiful and refreshing. There were plenty of sun loungers for everyone and they were all fitted with things on them to keep your face and chest out of the sun and therefore keeping you cool, there were also additional parasols. It was all also very clean.

The food in the hotel was lovely. There was plenty to eat at breakfast and again everything was clean. Dinner was also very nice, the food was good traditional Italian food and i was there for 2weeks and nothing was repeated. There is a Buffet dinner every wednesday night and there was such a large variety of things it was impossible not to find something you liked. The head man in the dining room, Louigie, was a wonderfully kind man and was more than happy to help with anything you wanted even if it wasn't on the menu. They also accomodate Vegetarians very well as my best friend was a strict veggie.

All the staff in the hotel were also very nice and more than happy to help you with any concerns.

I thourghly enjoyed my stay at this hotel and i know my family and friend did also. I would definatly come back and stay again if i was to go back to Sorrento.

Visit Pompei, Amalfi, Sorrento but i wouldn't go to Capri again as it was boring and FULL of tourists.

We have just arrived back from staying in this hotel in July. We went with Citalia on an accommodation basis only. After reading the reviews on here we weren’t too worried about staying here but we want to share some interesting points.
We paid extra for an attic room with sea view, silly me thought we had a balcony so went to the reception and asked to change rooms (20 Euros extra per night) and was shown a really spooky room. My wife freaked and headed off to our original room that we got to like!
There isn’t enough beds/umbrella’s around the pool for everyone so we had to be prepared to be down to the pool area for 9am or be without beds all day. There wasn’t any music playing either around the pool so we felt that everyone was hearing our conversations so we had to whisper. The evening meal was quite inedible and was given rock hard buns every night. Many residents thought of having a ‘bun fight’ with them! We felt that we were been watched over breakfast and the evening meal by the staff and they were very ignorant. Yes the Cockerel and dogs were noisy and the staff chatted on the veranda waking us up again at 7am. Hence we would not stay at this hotel again.

On our arrival we were given a room which didnt have any day light in it despite the window in the door onto the balcony. No wonder, the room was at the rear of the hotel overlooking a dingey building and a backyard which contained rubbish which was thrown over a gate. The only thing which divided our balcony from the grotty building was a narrow back alley where there was a constant noise from the local traffic, mopeds and motorbikes! We couldnt put any clothes in the wardrobe because it smelled so musty. We immediately asked to be moved but we had to pay an EXTRA 15 Euro's a day for a better view even though we had already paid EXTRA back in the UK! We mentioned this to the Thomson rep who appeared disinterested and didnt see a problem with that! We went on some of the trips with Thomsons which were expensive, a rip off really, we even had to pay Thomsons an EXTRA 20 Euro's each for each trip because our Hotel was higher up the hill for the bus to collect us. (Not our problem?) The Hotel food was nothing special at all in fact rather bland. Our beds and towels were changed everyday which is nice but i would expect that anywhere. The hotel bus wasnt much use because you had to pre book a day in advance and couldnt get on it if your name wasnt down. Besides the Hotel, Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi coast, Pompeii etc is not to be missed but use the local transport cos Thomson never miss an opportunity to get your money off you. The Italians are lovely people, welcoming and very entertaining on the tours! A great place to visit but please dont bother with the Hotel Jaccarino.
